MLW FRIDAY NIGHT HEAT
EPISODE 12
EPISODE 12
60-second video montage recapping last week’s show, followed by title graphics and explosive pyro.
Lance Russell: “Good evening, wrestling fans – and welcome to MLW Friday Night Heat! I’m Lance Russell, and I’m joined this week by Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian, better known as the Addiction. We are live from the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida, where tonight, you’ll see four outstanding matches We’ll also hear from the new MLW Intercontinental Tag-Team champions, and in our main event, MLW Wild Card champion Davey Boy Smith defends his title against Buddy Murphy. But let’s get right to the ring, for a very special eight-man match.”
The HORSEMEN (w/JJ Dillon) vs. the KILLER BEES and the OLYMPIANS:
vs.
vs.
The MLW World Tag-Team champions led the procession, followed by their manager and their stablemates. They were all supremely confident, and justifiably so. The newcomers standing across from them were solid hands, but this was an eight-minute showcase for the Horsemen. Hennig, Pillman, Dawson, and Wilder were equal parts skill and viciousness, and it ended via a Perfectplex on Brunzell.
After the match, they demanded the ring microphone. Each of them had their turn, and each of them made it perfectly clear: the Horsemen were in charge, and unstoppable.
From one set of champions to another; a pre-taped interview with the new Intercontinental Tag-Team champions was played for the crowd. Koloff led off: “You are looking at the superior team in MLW. The most dominant team in the world. It take us only two matches together to win the Intercontinental titles – the first match, we take our foes by surprise. The second match, they know exactly who we are and still they cannot defeat us. No one can. “
Rusev: “We are the Heroes of the Republic. Undefeated, and undefeatable! We challenge anybody in the world to try to take these from us, but we know that is impossible. You American teams are too busy fighting each other – you argue and you fight because you are not a true team like Nikita and Rusev. But come try… and you will lose, and we will celebrate like it is Rusev Day!”

Cold out of the commercial, a graphic was shown on the screen: Coming soon… Beauty and the Beast.
Backstage, a cameraman found MLW CIO Jeff Jarrett standing outside of his office, surrounded by two large and perpetually angry men. Umaga stared him down from one side, while Cactus Jack put his hand on Jarrett’s shoulder. “Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. You and I, we go back a long, long time. We practically broke in together! Texas, Memphis, Nashville… we drove a lot of roads together.”
Jarrett: “And as I recall, we also beat the living daylights out of each other on a nightly basis. I’m a busy man, Jack – what do you want?”
Jack: “What do we want? That’s easy – we want to beat people up! We want to maim, and fracture, and make our opponents wish that they picked a different line of work! But since we supposedly lost that double first blood match to the Road Warriors, we haven’t gotten the chance to exact our revenge. Umaga, here, is” – and he interrupted himself to turn and slap the “Samoan Bulldozer” several times, firing the 350-pounder up – “he wants fresh meat. He needs to get his hands on someone, or else… well, you don’t want to be around if we don’t get our way.”
Jarrett chose his words cautiously. “You’ve given me a lot to think about, Cactus, and I’m sure that I can find the right team for you. But you have to excuse me… please.”
The massive maulers stalked away, and the “King of the Mountain” exhaled a heavy breath. He was interrupted by Elias, who said, “What a couple of weirdos.”
TEXAS BULLROPE MATCH
HERNANDEZ (w/Homicide) vs. BARRY WINDHAM:
HERNANDEZ (w/Homicide) vs. BARRY WINDHAM:
vs.
The LAX sauntered to the ring first. Windham was visibly agitated as he entered next, and as soon as the referee tied the heavy bullrope to his wrist, he tackled Hernandez, and the fight was on. The two big Texans brawled for several minutes, in a match where almost anything was legal and the only way to win was by pinfall or submission; the bullrope was there strictly as a weapon. At the 10-minute mark, Windham started to dominate, and scored several two-counts; that was enough for Homicide, and he jumped “the Widowmaker”, causing the disqualification. The TNA stalwarts double-teamed Windham mercilessly, and bloody, until several MLW officials ran down to break it up.

An “earlier in the week” interview, hosted personally by Jarrett, from a seedy bar in Atlanta, Georgia. It was 9 am, so the people he was there to talk to either arrived early or never left.
They, of course, were Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy – the Fabulous Freebirds.
Jarrett: “Terry, the big question is… why?”
But Hayes answered. “Why? Pretty simple, Double J. Big ‘Bamm Bamm’ here got tired of listening to what his so-called friends were feeding him. He got really tired of listening to what these soft, social media millennials were saying, that’s for sure. Terry Gordy is a Freebird, through and through. 100% Tennessee-born, Tennessee-bred, God’s gift to wrestling. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again – no one was born for this business more than this man. And all of the sudden, he gets crap for taking pride in his roots? What a load of garbage.”
“So he called me up, looking for some advice. First thing I said was I’m sorry for not being there. Sorry you had to tag up with a has-been like Barry Windham. Sorry that you had to do all the heavy lifting defending those Intercontinental Tag-Team titles, night after night. Then I told him that I had his back, like I always do, and that I was a free agent and ready to help him out. I’m not saying that I told him to dump Windham – Terry’s a big boy, he can make his own decisions – but I told him that I was on his side.”
“And now the band is back together. You don’t like the Freebirds? Tough. You don’t like what we do and how we do it? Tough. We’re hard-drinking, bone-breaking, woman-taking Confederate hellraisers from Badstreet U.S.A., and we’re here to stay.”
The BRISCOE BROTHERS vs. the DYNAMIC 2UO (w/Jim Cornette):
vs.
vs.
As Cornette led his cocky team to the ring, Russell reminded the fans about their backstage attack on Bobby Eaton. Daniels, perhaps prophetically, added, “Wrestlers don’t forget about things like that.”
The brothers from Delaware took charge early, though, using their slight strength advantage via slams and suplexes. The 2uo were frustrated, and Cornette constantly pulled them to the corner to motivate and instruct. It seemed to spark them, and Aries and Hernandez hit a series of double-team moves on Jay in rapid succession. But it came to a sudden stop when the Midnight Express ran down the ramp, looking for revenge. They tackled the 2uo and fired punches at them, causing the disqualification at just 3:48. As the Briscoes skulked off, bitter about the loss, the two other teams continued to brawl for a couple of more minutes until MLW officials finally separated them.

Russell set up a video that spotlighted the “relationship” between the Great Britons and the team of Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart: how the Brits sought to bring Smith into their group, despite Hart’s protestations; how they helped the “British Bulldog” win the Wild Card championship; and how he wouldn’t interfere in their match for the Intercontinental tag-team straps, causing Barrett to snap at him. Smith and Hart were done with their antics, and the Great Britons were furious at them as well.
MLW WILD CARD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
BUDDY MURPHY (w/Wesley Blake) vs. DAVEY BOY SMITH (C,w/Owen Hart):
vs.
BUDDY MURPHY (w/Wesley Blake) vs. DAVEY BOY SMITH (C,w/Owen Hart):
vs.
Before the main event got underway, the video boards came to life again – this time, it was Commissioner Chuck Norris. “Fans, I’m proud to present the first title defense of the Major League Wrestling Wild Card championship. Now you might be wondering what differentiates it from the old King of the Ring title, or any other championship for that matter. Well, it’s simple. The champion – in this case, Davey Boy Smith – simply must win a single fall in the time allotted. On Friday Night Heat, that limit is 20 minutes; on our pay-per-views, 30 minutes. However, his challenger must win two consecutive falls. The champion’s advantage, needless to say, is huge. Good luck to you both.”
The bell rang, and the Englishman extended his hand in a show of sportsmanship – but the Australian challenger batted it away. Undaunted, Smith used his power early on to take control. Press-slams, delayed suplexes, and wrenching headlocks wore “the Juggernaut” down. However, Murphy finally turned the tide several minutes in, using his superior speed to pepper the “Bulldog” with strikes and kicks. 15 minutes in, he scored a number of near-falls in arguably his greatest performance in MLW yet. But then a missed moonsault gave Smith a chance to catch his breath, and with Hart insuring that Blake didn’t interfere, the champion pressed on. A series of clotheslines and slams battered Murphy, and he was hoisted onto Smith’s shoulder for his patented running powerslam. It was an instant classic, ending a few seconds later at 18:33, with Smith getting his hand raised in victory.
After WBKS departed, Smith and Hart celebrated in the ring, then walked up the ramp, turning once more to acknowledge the crowd. A fatal mistake; the Great Britons bolted from behind the curtain, steel chairs in hand, and went to town on the Stampede alumni. Several shots later, the two were down, and McGuinness and Barrett picked up Smith’s belt, collectively holding it high overhead as the show faded to black.
