ALTERNATIVE PRO WRESTLING
I'm going to attempt to make this episode a little more abbreviated. There's some great talent on this card, but you would expect me to say that, as I'm booking this show. But, I feel like it is warranted. Biff "Oney Lorcan" Busick recently hit the free market, and I feel he is a guy who is criminally underrated. He was one of the biggest draws on the indies for years, and has yet to find much footing here or in the real world. His new partnership with Danny Burch seems to have helped him find a place on television at least, but he's just an all around great talent and I'm glad I get to utilize his talents once more. He's facing one of the great gimmicks indie wrestling has really ever seen in Super Dragon, and that is no small task. Super Dragon is a hard hitter who commands respect, and his innovative style is really a pleasure to work with.
Beyond that, we've got a great opener with two CZW champions of different eras in RSP and Drake Younger. Page is a great big man, who can take a lot of punishment while also having a surprisingly agile arsenal at his disposal. Younger is just a great pro, who really upped his game near the end of his in ring career to date, taking his cardio and technique to new levels that he is going to need to tap into if he has a chance of overcoming the larger RSP. BJ Whitmer and Vincent Nothing follows up from there. Many are probably familiar with Whitmer and his pedigree. Ring of Honor die-hard, with a background in Pro Wrestling NOAH; trained by Les Thatcher, among others. He's a great pro who is very versatile. He's going up against a guy who is a former tag team partner of Rickey Shane Page in Vincent Nothing. Nothing has a style that meshes very well with Whitmer, and he might be able to overcome him tapping into some of his MMA background. Nothing actually left the sport to become a MMA fighter, but he was also very versatile, and showed he could take an inhuman amount of punishment in the ring that will serve him well if he wants to take down a talent the size of Whitmer. With all of this ground and pound, suplex heavy, hard hitting action, we had to get a solid junior heavyweight type of match on this card, and could you really ask for one better than Matt Sydal taking on "Swerve"? Shane Strickland is a hot commodity on the indie scene these days, but can he really take out the former Evan Bourne, who is probably one of the best wrestlers on the planet, pound for pound?
It's time to find out... NOW!
Rickey Shane Page vs. "The Psycho Shooter" Drake Younger
I built up this match quite a bit in the prologue, so we'll get into it. Younger tried to show no fear here, locking up with RSP, but Page backed him up into the corner and started laying into him with elbows and knees. Younger would manage to fight back with elbows of his own before running off the ropes and taking him down with a Dropkick that sent RSP under the ropes and out of the ring. From there, Drake sent himself over the ropes with a Front Flip Plancha, getting the crowd going! Page would take the advantage back, lifting Drake and slamming him clavicle first into the guardrail before sending him over the railing and into the crowd with a Rolling Elbow! RSP pulls the railing towards the ring and heads back inside, scaling the top turnbuckle. Page then flies off the top, WOWING THE CROWD WITH A SUICIDE DIVE THAT SMASHES YOUNGER! Both men are down for about half a minute before Page gets back up and pulls Younger up, tossing him into the railing. RSP runs and tries to nail Younger with a boot, but Younger dodges it and RSP catches rail to the crotch! Younger rushes him from behind and shows his strength, pulling the big man over with a German Suplex onto the concrete floor! Younger picks up chairs and begins throwing them at RSP, causing further damage, before pulling him up by his hair and pulling him back over the railing. RSP sends fists into Younger's midsection before shoving him and sending him back first into the turnpost! Yikes! Younger is sitting against the railing and RSP runs and delivers a Facewash, crushing the side of his head! RSP picks up Younger and sends him back into the ring. Page heads to the top turnbuckle and he's looking for something dangerous... SPIRAL TAP! NO! Younger rolls and RSP gets nothing but canvas! Younger yells out and brings the fans into this, clapping his hands and motioning for RSP to get to his feet! RSP stumbles up and Younger grabs him and lifts him onto his shoulders! The strength display here from Younger! And he pulls him over with a DEATH VALLEY DRIVER! Younger hooks the leg, thinking he might have it, but NO! RSP kicks out! Page pulls himself up with the ropes as Younger fires himself up, slapping himself in the face and yelling out, motioning again for RSP to get to his feet. RSP turns and Younger blasts him with multiple elbow strikes before running off the ropes, but Page is rolling and delivers another Rolling Elbow, taking Younger off of his feet! RSP falls against the ropes as the fans cheer these guys on! "The Psycho Shooter" stumbles back up and RSP rushes him and takes him down with a Running Boot to the chest! RSP motions to the crowd to get up, and then turns to Younger, who's rolled to the ropes and getting up again. RSP grabs Younger and tries to take him over with a Death Valley Driver of his own, but Younger slides off of the back and grabs him by the waist, delivering ANOTHER German Suplex! Younger gets up, thinking RSP is down, but RSP pops up on instinct, looking wild eyed but wobbly. Younger turns and RSP yells out before blasting him with an elbow to face! Younger stumbles back against the ropes and RSP grabs his arm and pulls him, whipping him off the ropes, before catching with a BACK BODY DROP, CATCHING HIM WITH A KICK TO THE SPINE ON THE WAY DOWN! RSP goes for the cover here, but Younger shows his heart, kicking out a two! RSP picks him up and grabs him into a front facelock, but Younger breaks free and delivers a Spinning Back Elbow! Younger runs off of the ropes, but RSP catches him quickly with a Bicycle Kick! Younger swerves, bouncing off of the ropes and then stumbles back towards RSP and gets caught with a SIDE MOUNT SUPLEX! RSP gets up and then runs, delivering a leaping Back Senton! RSP hooks the leg again, and he thinks he has it, but "The Psycho Shooter" just won't quit! Kick out at two! Rickey holds his head now, feeling like there's nothing he can do to keep Younger down. RSP calls for the end, though, and grabs Younger by the head and pulls him in and he's looking for a Powerbomb... NO! Younger floats over it and he's trying for a Sunset Flip to take him over, but RSP manages to block it and grabs Younger by the throat! RSP pulls Younger through his legs and back to his feet! Younger tries to kick Page in the stomach, but RSP quickly catches the kick and then pulls Younger in, grabbing him by the throat and lifting him and then dropping him over his knee with a CHOKESLAM BACKBREAKER! RSP goes for the cover once again, but Younger STILL KICKS OUT AT TWO! The fans are on their feet, clapping and cheering these guys on! RSP doesn't bother taunting, but instead stays on the attack, pounding Younger with fists before lifting him up and whipping him off of the ropes again. Younger sees that RSP is bent over and rolls over his back, looking exhausted. RSP turns and Younger dropkicks him to the knee! RSP goes down! Page gets back up, but he's hobbling. Younger grabs him by the leg and takes him over with a Dragon Screw, targeting the knee again! Younger floats it over and into an STF in the middle of the ring, and now he's trying to get the submission win! RSP is in trouble here, as he's looking gassed and he's a long way from the ropes... but he's still got fight in him! And he's pulling... and pulling... and he manages to get to the bottom rope! Younger looks exhausted and deflated, as he was really hoping that would end this. Younger gets to his feet and he narrows his vision, looking at RSP and telling him to come and get it. RSP hobbles up to his feet and Younger grabs him and he SCOOPS HIM UP AND SLAMS HIM TO THE MAT! It was just a Body Slam, but given the size difference and the point this match has reached, it's a significant blow and Younger is heading to the top rope now. He's looking for a big finish. Younger steadies himself on top and measures up his target. YOUNGER LEAPS! HE CONNECTS! GUILLOTINE LEGDROP LANDS FLUSH, AND YOUNGER IS PINNING RSP! HE THINKS HE HAS IT! ONE, TWO, THR-NO! RSP kicks out and Younger rolls away and looks like he might have died from shock. Both men take a slow time getting to their feet... RSP turns to Younger and Younger once again tries to get RSP up onto his shoulders, but RSP BLASTS HIM WITH ELBOWS TO THE SIDE OF THE HEAD! RSP is back to his feet and he kicks Younger, grabs him by the head... TWIST OF FATE! HE HIT THE TWIST OF FATE! RSP grabs Younger by the knee pad in a very tired attempt to hook the leg, but it's enough, and RICKEY SHANE PAGE HAS WON THE MATCH! These two gave it everything tonight, and these fans are on their feet for this display!
And my attempt to be a little more abbreviated kind of failed on that one...
BJ Whitmer vs. Vincent Nothing
Whitmer and Nothing would start the match off with a little feeling out process, trading waistlocks and arm wringers, before Nothing would try to take Whitmer down with a double leg shoot move. Whitmer would manage to block it and free his legs, taking over Nothing with a front facelock and then rolling, getting him into the center of the ring. Blah, blah, blah... Whitmer's coming at Nothing with a more royal road style, utilizing chops, straight kicks, dropkicks, suplexes, and lariats. Nothing is trying to use a more MMA inspired strong style approach, utilizing more shoot and soccer type kicks, suplexes, whatever. I don't feel like anybody is too invested in this match, so let's just talk about what I wanted it to be. Whitmer needs to come off as a more neutral, tough as nails face who eats what Nothing is giving to him. He eats a Penalty Kick, a Landslide, and a Dragon Suplex, but Nothing can't keep him down. I like the Fisherman's Driver as a finisher for Nothing better than his real life finisher, which is similar, so I'd like to have him trying to build towards that throughout the match, but Whitmer is crafty and able to avoid it, reversing it into a nice Wrist Clutch Exploder at one point, a top move of Whitmer's, to get a two count. Whitmer tries to end Nothing with a Short Arm Lariat shortly after, but Nothing is a fucking beast, and it's going to take more than that. Whitmer similarly is teasing lifting Nothing into something, but we're not sure what. That's because I'm giving him a new finisher as well. I don't really like anything he really uses to finish people, so he's going to be using the Northern Lights Bomb for me. It suits him a lot better than some of this other crap he uses, and so he's trying to hit that. Nothing catches Whitmer with a Backdrop Driver, followed by another Penalty Kick, only getting a two count. Nothing stomps Whitmer to the head and then makes his way to the top rope, but Whitmer shows his guts and catches him up top, delivering a SUPER SAITO SUPLEX! Whitmer doesn't give Nothing time to recover, and doesn't bother going for a cover, instead lifting Nothing and scooping him up, dropping him FLUSH with the Northern Lights Bomb, and it's all over! BJ Whitmer gets the pinfall victory!
And that's that. I don't think I'll have Nothing do anything to him afterwards, as he's pretty battered from all of this, so we will move on.
Matt Sydal vs. Shane Strickland
I like these guys, but I don't really feel like watching tribute videos or whatever to figure out their little spots and trying to string it all together. I prefer a style more like the previous two matches, really, but I wanted to round this show out with something more high risk and exciting. You're going to see Strickland hitting some versions of a double stomp, hitting a Lumbar Check, doing a Rolling Thunder Cutter, all of that good stuff. Sydal is going to catch Strickland on the top rope at one point and deliver the Cyclorama, as I'm going for a pre-WWE Sydal here, as I don't know much about what he does now, and that's not going to finish Strickland. I know Sydal uses a Bicycle High Knee now, and he's going to hit that on Strickland and head up top, looking for the Shooting Star Press, but Strickland is going to reverse it into a Triangle Choke! BAH GAWD! LOCK IT IN, KID! MAKE A NAME FOR YOURSELF! Oh, but Sydal manages to escape and lay into Strickland with downward stomps, before hitting the HERE WE GO DRIVER! Strickland seems to be down and out, but NO! He kicks out. Strickland is able to mount a come back, hitting a Spinning Roundhouse Kick to take Sydal down. Strickland heads up top, maybe thinking Swerve Stomp, but Sydal is back up and catches him, and they are struggling up top! Oh, Sydal catches a headbutt from Strickland and slips, tangling his legs up in the ropes, and he's in the Tree of Woe... who could have seen it coming! Strickland gets his footing and he looks like he's setting Sydal up for a Swerve Stomp from the Tree of Woe, but NO! Sydal crunches himself and grabs Strickland and pulls him over with a SNAP SUPERPLEX! Sydal is still hanging in the ropes and he crunches back up and frees himself! Sydal is up top and Strickland is down... SYDAL FLIES! SHOOTING STAR PRESS! SYDAL HOOKS THE LEG AND IT'S ALL OVER! Matt Sydal gets the hard fought win here, and we move on.
I don't really have much in the way of storylines or angles happening right now, as I really feel like a base of wins and losses needs to be established. I'm not looking for anything too dramatic at the moment. It's gotta be developed organically.
"The Star Destroyer" Biff Busick vs. Super Dragon
Well, these two are just going to beat the shit out of each other. The open palm strikes, the kicks and stomps of Dragon, the European uppercuts of Busick and his devastatingly stiff strikes. These fans have seen some real battles tonight, and I know I really painted a very detailed picture in the first match, but I really didn't mean to because I don't think anybody reads all of that shit anyway. The last two matches were contended in the ring, for the most part. This one took place outside of the ring even more so than the first match, as these two took to each other with chairs, a table, the ring bell, whatever wasn't nailed down. They fought all through the crowd, punishing one another, because Busick knew he had to if he wanted to get the advantage over a daunting figure like Dragon, and Dragon is out to kill anybody in his path. Super Dragon is very much a Terminator like figure in APW, bringing a presence of indestructibility with him, and he looked very tough in this contest. Busick would show just how tough he was in this match, though, kicking out the Surfboard-style Curb Stomp, surviving a Diving Double Stomp, and overcoming a UFO kick from the ropes. Dragon went looking for the Psycho Driver, but Busick would land on his feet and bounce off of the ropes, flooring Dragon with a Running European Uppercut! Busick would then hit a Running Blockbuster, but Dragon kicked out! Busick would yell out, slapping himself, before delivering a Half Nelson Suplex that he uses to finish people, BUT NOT DRAGON! Super Dragon kicked out of that shit at two! Busick tries to stay on the offensive, but Dragon unleashes a series of back and forth elbows to pin Busick back into the buckles, before unleashing a VIOLENCE PARTY OF STRIKES, TRYING TO KNOCK "THE STAR DESTROYER" RIGHT THE FUCK OUT! Dragon attempts to pin Busick, but SOMEHOW BUSICK BRIDGES HIS BACK AND SHOVES DRAGON OFF OF HIM AT TWO! Busick clinches a fist, blood dripping from his mouth, and these fans can't believe it! Dragon kicks Busick across the face and grabs him again by the legs, delivering ANOTHER CURB STOMP! Dragon wasn't done, though, and he picks up Busick, looking for the Psycho Driver, but NO! Busick slides off the back and grabs him... HALF NELSON SUPLEX! Dragon lands on his head but bounces up, shook as fuck, as is up in the buckles.... BOOM! BUSICK RUSHES IN WITH A RUNNING EUROPEAN UPPERCUT! Dragon is still staggered in the corner as Busick is bleeding and frothing at the mouth... SLAP! EUROPEAN UPPERCUT! CHOP! SLAP, SLAP, SLAP, SLAP! EUROPEAN UPPERCUT! HEADBUTT! HEADBUTT! HEADBUTT! HE'S GOT HIM BY THE MASK AND HE HEADBUTTS HIM AGAIN! Dragon is trying to escape, but he might be knocked out on his feet... he's staggering away, but Busick is gritting his teeth, pressing his forehead against the side of his head, yelling at him to bring it the fuck on! Busick grabs Dragon from behind and lifts him over with an EVEREST GERMAN SUPLEX, PLANTING HIM ON THE BACK OF HIS HEAD! Busick let's go, though, as he's still very worn down and battered, holding his ribs and head. Busick pulls himself up on the ropes, though, and he's rallying the crowd... he's pulling them in... the CROWD IS GOING NUTS! Busick is motioning, BEGGING, Dragon to get to his feet! Dragon pulls himself up on the ropes and stumbles backwards. Busick rushes and he's going for it... NORTHERN LARIAT! NO! DRAGON DUCKS IT! SWING AND A MISS FOR BUSICK! Busick turns and Dragon catches him with a BLACK MASS KICK! Busick twists and bounces off the ropes, and Dragon GRABS HIM FROM BEHIND! UP ONTO HIS SHOULDERS! PSSSSYYYYYYYCCCCHHHHHOOOOOO DRIIIIIIIIVVVEEEERRRRRRR!!! CHECK HIS PULSE, I THINK WE'VE GOT A COLD ONE IN THERE! Busick landed right on top of his head there, and it's all over. Dragon makes the lateral press and the referee counts to three, as these fans can't believe it.
Everybody was all hyped up to feel good about a Biff Busick victory after he was just handed his walking papers from wherever it was that fired him, but no. No. Super Dragon, Supreme Dickhead of Life and Independent Wrestling, did his job well tonight and got the win. Boohoo.
End of show.
