Total Wrestling Evolution
Episode 2
The show starts off the opening package, before heading down ringside, where we see Ryan Williams and Mike Labonte sitting in, ready to call the action. They go over briefly what happened on the last episode and we see a graphic package of the Heavyweight title tournament. We see who has advanced and who will be competing tonight, the top of the card being Jack Dagger, Jr. and Adam Cross. Labonte talks about the technical ability of Dagger, and how he's made a name for himself all over the world for his submission skills and his dangerous armbars. Williams retorts that Adam Cross is very skilled on the mat as well, which Labonte cannot argue with, and says Cross may have the advantage in other facets of the ring, and that could lead him to victory tonight. We head backstage.
Jack Dagger, Jr. can be seen standing in with Christina Mauro, wearing a blue, black, and white stylized Union Jack warm up jacket, his short brown hair parted as he stands over Christina with his 6'01" frame.
Mauro:
Hello wrestling fans, it's Christina Mauro here, standing with main event competitor and TWE Heavyweight title hopeful, Jack Dagger, Jr. Jack, you've been all over the world and submitted many men in your young career; do you have any concerns tonight might not go your way?
Dagger:
Christina, I don't get paid to be a speculator, but if I was a gambling chap, I'm say my odds are pretty good tonight. I wouldn't bet against me.
Mauro:
Adam Cross has a lot of moves in his arsenal, do you feel like you'll be able to stop his onslaught and impose your will?
Dagger:
He does have a lot of little trickies and flippies, doesn't he? That's all well and good, but we'll see how that works out for him when he's tapping out to an armbar later- oh, hey, mate, come to get a look at the next Heavyweight champion, did ya?
Into the scene walks Adam Cross, wearing a black leather jacket and black ball cap with "AC" and some other stylizing on it, pulling back his longish brown hair. He rubs the scruff on his chin for a moment, smiling.
Cross:
Jack... Christina... I just came here to wish you the best of luck tonight, Jack. You seem like you've got everything figured out... it's just going to be a different story when I kick you right in the teeth.
Both men get a serious look on their face, as Jack advances and stands face to face with Cross, who removes his hat, tossing it to the side.
Dagger:
You think that's right, do ya?
Cross:
I think you're in for an INCREDIBLE surprise, when I pin you to the mat, One... Two...
Cross raises his hand now, holding up three fingers.
Cross:
Three. And when I win the Heavyweight title at the end of this whole thing... you can have another shot, and it'll still be the same. I'm not backing down from anybody, and nobody is going to outperform the new measuring stick of the sport.
Dagger kind of chuckles, and pats Cross on the shoulder.
Dagger:
If you're the measuring stick, mate, then I'm going to break it.
Dagger begins waving his hand back and forth in down/up motion.
Dagger:
Better practice that right there, cause that's how your night ends. Tapping. Cheers.
Dagger turns and walks off as Cross stares at him, his eye twitching a bit before giving a slight nod. We head back to ringside.
Ryu Merrick vs. "The Celtic Phenom" Dane Holloway
Ryu Merrick has a short, nearly buzzed cut with red facepaint and black markings on it, along with red and black trunks and kickpads. He slithers and skulks around, his face nearly emotionless, and while he seems rather intimidating, he's standing (or kind of swaying) across the ring from a very big and dangerous man in Dane Holloway. Holloway also has pronounced mean streak, and came out of the box looking to inflict some torment. Holloway lays into Merrick with forearms and knees, followed by cornered shoulders, but Merrick manages to use his speed and striking ability to get back in this thing, sending Holloway to the outside with a Corkscrew Roundhouse Kick that sent him tumbling out of the ring through the ropes. Merrick then rushes and leaps, springboarding off the middle rope and twisting, catching Holloway with a glancing knee strike as he was leaning over the top rope, trying to gain composure, and that sends the big man down to the floor. Holloway, to his credit, lands on his feet on the outside, but the spider-like Merrick taunts the crowd and then leaps out, hitting a Front Flip Plancha that leaves both men down! Merrick crawls with serpent like moves on the floor before clawing his way up the apron. Holloway pulls himself up on the apron and Merrick runs, soccer kicking him to the side of the head and sending him over onto the announcer's table! From their Merrick climbs on the ropes, taunting and clawing himself, before turning and leaping, Front Dropkicking "The Celtic Phenom" right onto the table and rolling off it, sending him crashing into Williams and Labonte! Merrick continues his bizarre sort of walk and taunt over to Holloway and grabs him by his long hair, but Holloway shows his toughness and sends a few gut punches his way, breaking his grasp, before Holloway puts a shoulder to him and rams Merrick into the apron, hard! Holloway then grabs him by the head and swings the smaller man by his neck like a baseball bat, smashing him ribs first into the turnpost in a very impressive showing! Holloway shakes off some cobwebs and then sends Merrick into the ring, taunting the crowd on the apron before heading up top! This man is 6'06", 270 lbs., so seeing him up top is scary. Holloway tries to dive off with a Double Axe Handle to the back of Merrick, but Merrick reverses it with a Backwards Overhead Kick, sending Holloway backwards into the buckles. Merrick bridges his back up and looks like a crazed spider again, then twists and runs, hitting a high speed Front Dropkick to Holloway, sending him flying back into the buckles again, this time taking him down! Holloway rolls from the buckles, holding his midsection. Merrick crawls on the apron and scales the buckles in arachnid fashion, and then poses, before flying off with his Morning Star (Corkscrew Senton Bomb) finisher, crushing Holloway! Merrick plants his hands on Holloway's chest, pushing him down as he looks back and forth like an insane person, talking to himself as the referee counts the three!
Merrick crawls backwards and right out of the ring, then down the apron and onto the ramp, he then poses, his hands like claws, breathing heavily with arms out stretched as this menacing figure advances to the semi-finals.
We then cut to an offsite location, as we see a pre-taped promo by one of the next competitors of the night, Darren Gray. Gray is wearing a dark coat and gloves, and is walking on a bridge over looking a cityscape, his long black hair pulled back as he sports a beard.
Gray:
My name is Darren Gray, and I am everything a professional wrestler in this day and age should be. Much like the men who built this bridge... much like the men who planned the construction of that city you see behind me, I look at myself and I see a structure that must be built to last and inspire. I am truly "The Paragon" of this sport. Everything I do has a purpose, every move I make is intricately planned. I will find a way to beat each man that stands in my path, surmount each obstacle that stands in my way, and I will be the design for which each man that follows my path will try to achieve. Even now, as my contemporaries watch me, they will try to steal what I have created, but as they try to match me, I will destroy what I am and rebuild myself, over and over, proving that I am the greatest mind in this business, and the most adaptable competitor to ever step foot into a wrestling ring... and I will be glorified.
Gray walks out of the shot, and we head to the ring.
Tonga Ali vs. "The Paragon" Darren Gray
Darren Gray is certainly intense, but he was coming up against a bigger and very impressive opponent in Tonga Ali tonight. Ali doesn't have the same kind of physique or sleekness that Gray possesses, but his thick build and obviously martial arts background posed some problems for Gray, who took a beating early on from the taped hands and feet of the Tongan. Gray would retreat to the outside of the ring, and use the ropes to try to create distance here, as he realized tangling with Ali could be very harmful if not approached delicately. Gray would begin to use his speed to his advantage, and would catch Ali with a Step Up Tornado DDT off the ropes to get a short two count. From there, Gray tried to keep the match grounded, but the power and technique of Ali caused issues with that plan, and Ali would his knees and elbows to make his way back up before applying a deadly Katahajime choke to Gray, which sent his arms failing and his eyes in a sense of panic! Gray would use his speed and skills, though, to rush the turnbuckle and climb up it, and actually flip backwards and out of the predicament! Ali scrambles on the mat to regain his footing, but Gray catches him with a Superkick that sends him flying back into the corner! Gray then pulls Ali from the corner and puts him into Powerbomb position, using an impressive amount of power to get up the 280 lbs. Tongan and send him into the buckles HARD with a Turnbuckle Powerbomb that got cheers from this audience! Tonga Ali is on all fours now, the wind knocked out of him, as Gray measures him from the opposite corner and then rushes, catching Ali flush with a Punt Kick straight to the temple! Ali looks to be knocked out here, as Gray lays back and hooks the near leg and the referee counts to three!
Darren Gray celebrates in the ring, yelling, "I will OVERCOME!" before heading backstage and looking like a big threat to anybody as he advances in this tournament.
Backstage, we see the leather clad Kevin Ultra standing in front of a chalk board wearing sunglasses, his black hair pulled back with an eraser in hand. Names are scrawled across the board, some ex-ed out, as these are the names of the men in the tournament.
Ultra:
These names are men that are supposed to draw you into this promotion, this "evolution" of wrestling. They are meant to be the best in the sport, and are supposed to bring prestige to the Heavyweight championship. That doesn't matter to me. None of these men matter to me. You people... you do not matter to me. I will end any of them, any of you, without hesitation or after thought. There's been a lot of big talk coming from everywhere, but tonight, I speak with actions... as I erase my competition, one by one.
Ultra takes the eraser in his hand and swipes it, removing Brent Anderson's name from the list on the board, as we head back to the ring.
"The Eraser" Kevin Ultra vs. Brent Anderson
Kevin Ultra makes his way out in dramatic fashion, holding the eraser from earlier and swiping it in front of him on the entrance ramp before dropping it and proceeding, looking very confident. Brent Anderson is no small man, at 6'02", 235 lbs., and out weighs Ultra by about 20 lbs., but Ultra is scary fast and hits very hard. Anderson is able to land some early chops and kicks, then tries to keep Ultra down with a headlock, followed by a leg scissors hold to his head, but Ultra breaks free and dropkicks him straight to the face! Ultra continues to keep the pace quick, dropkicking out his knee, and then hitting a Step Up Fame Asser off his back, getting a two count. Anderson tries to escape to the outside, but "The Eraser" sees him and sneers, rushing and leaping, twisting in mid-air and springboarding with an AMAZING Moonsault to the outside, wiping out Anderson and getting a big pop from the crowd. "ERASE!" Ultra yells, as he rushes and knees Anderson in the head, smashing him against the guardrail! Back inside, Ultra grabs Anderson's arm, then quickly twists it and pulls him in, delivering a BRUTAL Short-Arm Bicycle Knee Strike! Ultra hangs onto the arm, though, as Anderson looks to be limp, and pulls him in, hooking the arm now as he applies a front facelock, before lifting him and planting him straight on top of his head with the Zanpakuto (Lifting Single Underhook DDT), floating over with the lateral press and getting perhaps the most impressive win of the tournament.
Ultra stands over Anderson and makes his swiping "ERASE" motion again, looking out to the crowd past his hand as he sneers, before leaving coldly.
"The Technical Master" Jack Dagger, Jr. vs. "The Incredible" Adam Cross
JDJ and "The Incredible One" had a pretty intense meeting earlier in the night, but it was put up or shut up time now as the bell sounded. The fans seemed intrigued here, not sure who to cheer for, as Dagger and Cross very briskly traded holds, neither man wanting to be pinned down for very long, when Dagger showed just how dangerous he is, snapping on a Cross Armbar just like that, and causing Cross to get to the ropes. Dagger held on for every bit of the five count, before rolling away and taunting Cross, telling him to just give up. Cross shooks off the damage, and the fans began to get behind Cross. Dagger and Cross would go back to trading holds, when Cross would get behind Dagger and blast him with a massive elbow strike to the back of the skull, sending Dagger rolling away and Cross tells Dagger to just go home. Dagger smiles a bit, and the two begin trading blows in the middle of the ring, exchanging kicks and open hand strikes before Dagger shoots down for the leg, but Cross reverses it and tangles up Dagger, and now he actually locks on his submission finisher, the Heel Destroyer (Grapevine Heel Hook), causing Dagger to get to the ropes! Cross is done playing around, though, and continues his assault, kicking the leg of Dagger and then draping it over the middle rope before dropkicking it, sending Dagger retreating to the outside. Cross isn't done, though, and rushes, flipping backwards with a Fosbury Flop, but Dagger slides into the ring, evading, but Cross lands on his feet to the delight of the crowd! Dagger rushes off the ropes, not realizing Cross is up, and Cross hurries and flies back in with a Springboard, delivering the INCREDIBLE ELBOW WITH AMAZING IMPACT! Cross covers him, thinking he has it, but Dagger kicks out! Cross calls for the end, crossing Dagger's arms and looking for the Crossfire (Cross Arm Sit-Out Powerbomb), but Dagger breaks free and sunset flips, shoving Cross through and he looks on the Cloak and Dagger (Dis-Arm-Her)! That's painful, but Cross is close to the ropes and breaks it! Dagger pulls him from the ropes and unloads with kicks before trying for another Cross Armbar, but Cross blocks it and fights, pulling Dagger up with all of his strength before planting him with a Sit-Out Powerbomb variation! Cross rolls backwards and then grabs the legs of Dagger again, lifting him up. Dagger crunches up, though, and starts blasting Cross with downward elbows, feverishly trying to fight free, but Cross rushes and sends the lower back of Dagger into the top turnbuckle, sending the wind out of him, before spinning him and draping him downward in a piledriver like position. Cross yells out, before applying Cradle to the Piledriver position, and then the truly sickening happens... Cross drops to his knees, driving Dagger down with a move he calls the Grave Digger (Gotch-style Kawada Driver)! Dagger has been obliterated by that move, and his neck may be broken! Cross covers his limp body, and gets the three count as the famous look on in amazement.
"The Incredible" Adam Cross has won a truly spirited fight here, but he had to pull out his biggest, move devastating move to do it. Will he need to call upon this move again in the tournament? One would hope not, but given the level of the competition, he may.
