The Season 2 premier opened with a video montage that recapped what happened at Ultima Lucha. The recap ended with Samoa Joe being senselessly bloodied by Brock Lesnar. When the video recap ended, we got a shot of a dimly lit hospital room. The camera showed an IV drip bag and then a machine that read a steady pulse. Then, we saw Samoa Joe laying in a hospital bed with his eyes shut. A nurse walked in, checked the IV, the readings on the pulse monitor, recorded something on a clipboard medical chart, which she then stuck on a hook at the foot of the bed.

Mr. Cisco and Castro Cortez came to the ring and took the microphone from Melissa Santos before she had a chance to speak. They told the Believers that Dario Cueto was long gone and that he would never be coming back. This announcement was met with jeers. They said that there was a new El Jefe in Lucha Underground and introduced him – Alberto El Patron! The door to Dario Cueto’s office opened to show Alberto El Patron exit with Paige hanging off him. They entered the ring and then El Patron cut a promo about how he will bring prestige to Lucha Underground. He derided Dario Cueto’s reign as the owner and promoter of Lucha Underground as a worthless sham because it featured “a Swiss cheese gringo” as the Lucha Underground Champion. He said that with El Patron in charge, real luchadores would be given a chance to shine. Today marks the beginning of a new era for Lucha Underground, he claimed, as he will bring it back to its lucha libre roots. To prove how serious he is, and to bring this new era in with a bang, El Patron announced that tonight’s main event would feature a match between lucha libre’s most storied and iconic rivals: Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.! The Believers were excited by this announcement. They cheered and chanted “Si! Si! Si! Si!”

Heath Slater, Son of Havoc and Ultimate Warrior defeated Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Vader by pinfall to retain the Trios Championships in this Ultima Lucha (S1D2) rematch. The former champions were determined to regain the titles and they really made Slater pay with several double and triple-team attacks. It is a credit to Slater’s heart and his own determination not to lose the titles that he kicked out of the many pinfall attempts that were made at his expense. Slater made a hot tag to the Ultima Warrior to turn the tide. He cleaned house giving Anderson a gorilla press slam and the Ultimate Splash. Heenan pulled the referee out of position to break up the count, but he was hammered by a big right hand from Son of Havoc and then bodyslammed by Slater. In the end, it Son of Havoc who landed a shooting star press on Blanchard after Warrior gave him a gorilla press slam that won the match.

Back in the Lucha Underground locker room, Eddie Guerrero approached his long-time rival and on-again-off-again friend, Rey Mysterio Jr., to acknowledge they had an opportunity to tear the house down and to wish him good luck tonight. Mysterio said that he had no doubt that they would put on another classic match later in the evening. Guerrero said that getting this match and this chance to show the world what the best luchadores in the world can do makes him feel good about the future with Alberto El Patron at the helm. Mysterio told Guerrrero that he has known Alberto for a long time and warned him that whatever he says shouldn’t be believe because he’s only in it for himself. Somehow, whatever he is doing is to the benefit of him and no one else. He went on to say that everyone needs to keep their guard up from now on.

Aero Star defeated PJ Black by pinfall to retain the Gift of the Gods. There is a long backstory for these two going into this match. They started out as partners in the season one debut. PJ Black eventually turned on Aero Star and turned him over to Pentagon Jr. to have his arm broken. Upon making his return, Aero Star and PJ Black had a grudge match that was won by Black. Then, at Ultima Lucha, they were the final two contestants in a 7-luchador elimination tables match for the Gift of the Gods. Aero Star won the match and the Gift of the Gods. This could have been considered the rubber match. As such, it was an exciting match that saw the luchadores battle inside and out of the ring. Both the luchador from the cosmos and the “Dare Wolf” took to the air frequently. Recalling their match at Ultima Lucha, brought a table out from under the ring with the intention of putting Aero Star through it, but his plan backfired as Aero Star managed to switch places with Black and executed a double springboard splash on Black to put him through the table and win the match.

Somewhere hundreds of miles away, Dario Cueto and his concessions employee were standing outside of what appeared to be an abandoned warehouse. They had a large sign posted above a door that read, “$20 entrance, $3 cheeseburgers.” Cueto stood beside the door, while not far to his left, the concessions employee was barbecuing up some burgers. As he was preparing the concessions, he looked at Cueto and asked him how much longer they had to stay here. He said he didn’t feel right being here and that he was worried that his mom probably thought he was dead by now. Cueto said that they could not return yet because his brother wasn’t ready. Then, three 20-something guys showed up and asked if this was the placed where the secret underground fight club was. He confirmed it. They forked over some cash and one of them even bought a cheeseburger. Then, they went in. Shortly thereafter, screams could be heard coming from inside the warehouse.

In Dario Cueto's office - er, Alberto El Patron's office, Alberto and Paige are making out behind the desk when Bobby "The Brain" Heenan pounds on the door and demands to come in, killing the mood. Alberto tells him to enter. Heenan complains at great length about the outcome of the Heenan Family's rematch for the Trios Championship and about how he was assaulted by members of the other team and demands the decision be reversed, that Son of Havoc, Health Slater & the Ultima Warrior be stripped of the titles, and that the Heenan Family be crowned the new champions. Alberto responds by telling Heenan that he's not going to get what he wants because he's not talking to Dario Cueto. Alberto El Patron is in charge now and he doesn't care about whatever favours Heenan gave Cueto to make it possible for him to create Lucha Underground - non of that matters any more. Alberto tells Heenan that his Family has a chance and blew it, so now a new trio of real luchadores will get an opportunity to win the Trios Championships. Displeased with that answer, Heenan threatens to leave Lucha Underground forever unless Alberto does "the ring thing." Alberto points at the door and tells him that he's free to go. Heenan says that Lucha Underground will fold within a year without the Heenan Family to move the ratings and storms out of the office, marking the end of the Heenan Family's time in Lucha Underground.

Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Eddie Guerrero by pinfall in a closely contested match that could have easily gone either way. A few minutes into the match, Guerrero noticed Mysterio favouring his left arm, so he started focusing his attack on it to exploit a possible weakness. He tailored nearly all his offense on softening up Mysterio’s left arm. As he did this, Mysterio got free from the holds from time to time and used his quickness to overwhelm Guerrero with a variety of aerial attacks from headscissors takedowns to hurricanranas to other rope-assisted springboard attacks. Some highlights included Guerrero executing a corkscrew plancha, Mysterio executing a top-rope springboard moosault from the ring apron to the floor, Mysterio getting caught climbing the turnbuckles and pulled into a spinning crucifix toss neckbreaker, and Mysterio attempting a springboard moonsault in the ring, but getting caught on Geurrrero’s should then spun around and turning it into a tornado DDT on the fly! Neither luchador executed his finisher. Guerrero missed the frog splash. Mysterio hit the Six-One-Nine but had the West Coast Pop countered into a folding powerbomb. The end of the match came a quick sequence of pinfall attempts where Guerrero appeared to have Mysterio caught in a la magistral pin, but Mysterio got out of it and got Guerrero into an inverted jackknife cover with a bridge for the 3-count. Guerrero’s Latino Heat had him visibly upset, but he contained his rage and shook hands with Mysterio as the Believers gave them a standing ovation.
