At the beginning of this week’s show, we enter Dario Cueto’s office. He is talking to someone, although we’re not sure who. He tells this person that his reputation for being something of a lunatic precedes him and that most people would not welcome them into their environment, but that Dario Cueto is different. This is his Temple and in it, we worship violence. There are few others more deranged and violent than the lunatic fringe. And so, Cueto is happy to give him a chance to find a place for himself in the Temple, provided he can work together with others – because tonight is the opening round of the Trios Championships tournament and there are two men who no one wants to team with. If he teams with them, then he will be allowed to compete in his Temple any time he wants. The camera pans over to reveal that Cueto is talking to Dean Ambrose, who shows no emotion when he says, “Yeah, sure, sounds good.”
Dean Ambrose is in the Temple!

Dario Cueto publicly announces the invention of the Lucha Underground Trios Championships!
The trumpet blares and out comes Dario Cueto with three title belts. He enters the ring to formally announce that, in honour of a lucha libre tradition, Lucha Underground has invented the Trios Championships and that a tournament will be held to decide who will wear these prestigious titles for the first time. Tonight, we will see eight trios compete in first round tournament action. In two weeks, one of these eight teams might be lucky enough to become the first Lucha Underground Trios Champions.

Big Ryck, Castro Cortez & Mr. Cisco defeated Aerostar, Matt Sydal & PJ Black by pinfall. There were plenty of high risk maneuvers performed from the ring to the floor. At one point, there was a big pile up on the floor and Big Ryck teased that he would go for a suicide dive, but as he was running towards the ropes, Black intercepted with a missile dropkick. In the dying moments of the match, Cortez brought his kendo stick out and hit Sydal with it. He was going for Aerostar, but he ducked it and then pulled it out of his hands. He went for Cortez, but ended up hitting Black in the face. Aerostar was quickly taken out of the ring by Mr. Cisco and Black was left to take the full brunt of a massive Ryck Bottom from Big Ryck. 1-2-3. Game over.

Kurt Angle, Prince Puma & Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Batista, Samoa Joe & Son of Havoc and Victoria by pinfall. Son of Havoc had the unenviable task of teaming up with Sensational Sherri’s clients, who haven’t been on the same page for a few weeks now. Today, their partnership exploded. Samoa Joe went for a suicide dive, but Puma and Mysterio moved out of the way and he ended up taking out Batista. After Batista recovered, he attacked Joe and they had a brawl around ringside. Son of Havoc was left with the unsurmountable task of trying to defeat the super talented team of Angle, Puma and Mysterio. He didn’t even stand a chance of winning this match on his own. However, he didn’t go down without a fight. Son of Havoc kept the match going long after anyone thought he would and he managed to get the fans on his side as he kept kicking out of moves and fighting back against our team of fan favourites. In the end, Son of Havoc ended up taking the pinfall loss after Mysterio, Angle and Puma each hit their finishing moves on him.

Psicosis, La Parka & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Pentagon Jr., Fénix & Tyler Breeze by pinfall. There was a lot of high flying throughout this match. The crowd was on the end of their seats. Pentagon Jr. and La Parka brawled into the crowd. Psicosis managed to dump Breeze out of the ring and then execute a springboard corkscrew plancha to take him out, leaving Nakamura free to block a superkick from Fénix and then give him an enzuigiri kick. After that, Nakamura gave him an inverted exploder suplex and then the Bomaye to keep him down on the mat for a 3-count.

Bad News Brown, Baron Corbin & Dean Ambrose defeated Argenis, Chris Jericho & Ultimo Dragon by pinfall. Neither Brown nor Corbin showed much commitment to the team, but they stuck around for the sake of fighting as they both just like to beat people up. Ambrose didn’t seem to care that they were poor teammates either, as he appeared to be happy to fight all over the arena with Jericho. In the end, Corbin gave Argenis the End of Days and pinned him for the win, ensuring that this collection of uncommitted teammates will stick together for at least one more match. After the match ended, Jericho attacked Argenis, blaming him for ending his chance at getting Trios gold. As he prepared to powerbomb Argenis onto the announce table, Ultimo Dragon came to make the save. In doing so, he made an instant enemy out of Jericho, who immediately vowed revenge.
