In what many might consider to be a shocker, Prince Puma defeated Samoa Joe by pinfall. This match did not end without controversy. Samoa Joe was dominating, but Prince Puma showed one hell of a fighting spirit. He kicked out of multiple pinfalls and just stuck in there long enough for an opening to appear. That came when Joe was setting him up for the Muscle Buster. Puma kicked Joe away and then executed a tornado DDT, which was the beginning of a comeback for him. Looking to snuff it out, Sensational Sherri and Batista tried threatening “Classy” Freddie Blassie, who responded by nailing Batista with his cane. Sherri slapped Blassie and took the cane from him. She prepared to hit him, but Puma stopped her. Batista attacked Puma from behind and they began to brawl. Joe tried to take advantage of the situation and went for a suicide dive, but Puma moved and he took out Batista instead. After getting Joe back into the ring and giving him a barrage of kicks, Puma knocked Joe down with a superkick and then landed the 630 senton bomb off the top turnbuckle, pinning him to advance to the next round of the Lucha Underground Championship tournament.

Kurt Angle defeated Pentagon Jr. by pinfall. This match appeared to be Angle’s for the taking as he was in the driver’s seat for most of the match, but Pentagon Jr. refused to quit and kept fighting back at every opportunity. Pentagon Jr. was particularly brutal with his open palm chops to Angle’s chest, turning it bright red. However, Angle was relentless in his pursuit of a submission via various leg scissors, leg locks and his ankle lock submission. Pentagon Jr. steadfastly refused to submit, so Angle had to switch tactics and use over a dozen suplexes to beat him down to the point that executing the Angle Slam would keep him down for the count of three. Angle advances to the semifinals of the Lucha Underground Championship tournament.

Chris Jericho defeated Ultimo Dragon by pinfall. Jericho started out with an early advantage, but lost it after he knocked Ultimo Dragon off of the ring apron with a corner springboard dropkick. He went outside to continue his attack only to have a whip attempt reversed and get slammed into the retaining wall of the elevated stands. Ultimo Dragon took over control of the match, but a Dragonsteiner attempt was blocked by Jericho, who then came storming back after landing a missile dropkick. The ending of the match saw them trade moves and nearfalls until Ultimo Dragon attempted a Dragon Bomb. Jericho broke free and landed on his feet. When Ultimo Dragon turned around, Jericho gave him the Codebreaker, then quickly pinned him to move on in the Lucha Underground Championship tournament.

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Batista by pinfall. Batista came into the match with a brash confidence about him, but it was quickly whittled away by Nakamura’s excellent knee and leg strikes. Batista appeared to be doomed to suffer a loss in a squash until he was able to powerbomb Nakamura outside of the ring. Batista took control of the match, but could not finish off Nakamura as he stepped out of the way of his spear attempt. Nakamura trapped Batista in the corner and beat him down with his feet and his knees. After giving him in inverted exploder suplex, Nakamura hit the Bomaye running knee strike and pinned him to join Prince Puma, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho in the tournament semifinals.
