We go upto the ring to the worlds most dangerous announcer Gary Michael Cappetta who introduces the combatants for the opening contest.

The match begins as they trade bitch slaps, chops, and rights until Pillman sends Landell to the floor with a pair of dropkicks and a hip toss. Landell to Pillman: "You want some more of me?!". They trade wristlocks as Tony. goes on about Pillman's professional football career. Landell blocks a sunset flip with a shot between the eyes, then counters a body press with a back breaker. Landell shows off with some ugly posing and the WORST Moonwalk in the history of the world. Pillman remains the aggressor, constantly missing and Landell getting near falls from it. Landell snapmares him out of the corner and grabs a chinlock. He takes Pillman over with a suplex,. Landell with a clothesline, and both are down again. We go backstage to Bob Caudle who is standing by with Jerry Lawler. They talk about Lawlers participation in the Gold Rush Rumble later tonight. Lawler says that regardless as to which way hes got to do it he will become Smokey Mountain Heavyweight Champion.
We go to Scott Hudson who is standing by with Jim Cornette and the Original Midnight Express. Cornette goes on about how the Midnights have been left out of the title tournament and the Gold Rush Rumble because the Powers that be are scared of them and thats why tonight they are in the Pre Show and so tonight they are going to take out the Southern Boys to prove they deserve to be Tag Team Champiions.
The Original Midnight Express (w/ Jim Cornette) vs. The Southern Boys:
(Ravishing Randy Rose & Loverboy Dennis Condrey vs. Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong)
The Express dump the Boys from the ring to start. Back inside, they retaliate, with loud positive of crowd response. Lockup to the corner, Rose with a cheap shot and a scoop slam. Rose heads to the top, but gets slammed off. Armstrong with a monkey flip, followed by a series of rights and a dropkick. Armstrong with a clothesline from the top rope, as the crowd chants for Smothers. Smothers tags in, and works the arm. He rips off Coundrey's playbook and uses a crescent kick to his advantage. Whip to the ropes, and Smothers with a back drop. Coundry tags in and shows off his karate moves, to crowd aproval. Smothers manages to fend off both Express members, and it's strategy time outside the ring. Back inside, and Coundry with a drop toe hold, but Smothers counters with a hammerlock. Coundry with a rake of the eyes and tag to Rose, who walks into an arm drag. Rose with a cheap shot in the corner, but Smothers comes back with a slingshot kick for two. Rose takes a walk, and tastes a basement dropkick for his troubles. The Express double-up on Smothers, but Armstrong gets the tag and comes in with a double cross body for two. The Express finally get control of the action, with Rose illegally tossing Smothers over the top rope, behind the referee's back, of course.
Rose follows, and sends Smothers into the security rail. Cornette gets a token racket shot in, as well. Smothers crawls to the apron, and knocked off, into the security rail. Back inside, Rose with an atomic drop, followed by a Condrey back breaker. Smothers with comeback attempt #1, but Coundry kills it with a clothesline. Rose with a leap frog splash across the back followed with a snapmare, and Condrey covers for two. Smothers with another comeback attempt, and this time a rake of the eyes halts it. Condrey with a scoop slam, followed by elbow drop. Rose comes in, and Smothers surprises him with a sunset flip for a two count. Condrey in, and we get a double-team knee lift and swinging neck breaker. Condrey slingshots Smothers back into the ring, and Rose follows with a underhook suplex for a two count. Condrey tries to do the slingshot again, but Smothers returns the favor, sending Condrey to the floor. Rose helps his cause though, wiping Smothers out with a clothesline. Smothers takes another beating, before finally making the hot tag to Armstrong, who lays into anything walking. Armstrong with a noggin-knocker, followed by a shoulder tackle on Rose for a two count. Smothers with a slam on ondrey, as Armstrong nails Rose with a missile dropkick. Armstrong goes to the top again, but Condrey throws him off. Rose with a slam and Rocket Launcher, but that only gets two. Smothers does a partner switch and cradles Condrey for another two count.
