AEW Dynamite
May 17, 2023
The show opens up backstage, with Jeff Cobb and Matt Riddle talking strategy with Samoa Joe. Riddle suggests that Joe distract the other team by doing the Macarena, while Cobb hits the Tour of the Islands and Riddle hits a Bro-sault. Then they all leave with the win and momentum for this weekend. Joe scowls at Riddle and walks away.
Riddle asks Cobb what Joe’s problem is. Cobb replies that they need to start taking things seriously. This weekend is their chance to finally become champions. Riddle nods and holds his fist up. They bump fists and head to the entrance area.

Match 1 - The Chosen Bros and Samoa Joe vs. Natural Selection (Cage, Benjamin and Alexander) w/ Cesar Duran
Natural selection grabs the win. Benjamin and Alexander have Joe isolated on the outside, where Cobb heads to help out. While this is happening, Duran pokes Riddle in the eyes, and Cage hits the Drill Claw for the win at 12:18.
Duran grabs the mic and says that everyone is looking at the soon-to-be holders of both the All-Atlantic Championship and AEW Tag Team Championships. Joe enters the ring to get face-to-face with Cage. They look like they’re ready for a fight, but Duran steps between them and tells Cage to wait until the fight really matters.

Mick Foley comes out to the ring. He thanks the AEW faithful for welcoming him over the past few months, but feels like it might be time to hang up his tights for good. Taz’s music hits, and he walks out to the stage. He says he’s not going to let the opportunity pass him by. He and Mick have been in the same company multiple times, but have never crossed paths. Well, it’s about time they fix that. Taz wants Mick to break out Cactus Jack. Foley says that he’ll think about it.

We get a highlight package of Alexa Bliss’ time in AEW. On her debut, she was under the spell of Lily. After losing a title match to Jade Cargill, she tossed Lily in the trash, but then started being haunted by someone else, who turned out to be Abadon. Bliss appeared to be under Abadon’s spell for a number of months, until Beth Phoenix finally got through to her. Now Bliss is tired of doing Abadon’s bidding, and they’re going to fight.
Match 2 - Alexa Bliss (6-5) vs. Abadon (3-1)
Bliss dominates Abadon from the beginning and wins with the Twisted Bliss at 3:18. In celebration after the match, she does handsprings up the ramp and blows a kiss to the crowd. After she leaves, the lights go off and come back on. Abadon is gone from the ring.

MVP gives a short promo, stating that he’s ready for his next step. He’s disappointed that he lost to Goldberg, but MVP still has a lot to prove.
—
We’re in the hallway by a dressing room, with “The New Day” on the door. Kingston emerges and yells back into the room that he wants to face Goldberg alone. He’s going to help soften him up for Big E.
After he walks off, Goldberg walks by with a couple members of security. He hands them an envelope and walks away. The security members lock the door from the outside and move a bookcase in front of it.
—
Match 3 - Non-Title: Goldberg (5-0) vs. Kofi Kingston (3-2)
Kingston surprised Goldberg with some early offense, but the AEW champ eventually got hold of Kingston with a Gorilla Press Slam. He followed that up with the Spear and Jackhammer for the win at 7:10.
After the match, Goldberg grabs the mic. He says he knows Big E is watching. He’s going to have to sit and watch while Goldberg completely dismantles Kingston. The big screen shows the outside of the New Day’s lockerroom, which is locked and barricaded. Goldberg picks Kingston up for another Jackhammer. The locker door shakes. Goldberg hits a 3rd Jackhammer. The locker door shakes again. Goldberg drags Kingston out to ringside. The locker door bursts outward, and Big E smashes through it and the barricade. He and Xavier Woods run out of the door and into the arena.
E reaches Goldberg and they exchange blows, spilling into the crowd, while Woods checks on Kingston. E and Goldberg spill back to ringside, where E drop-toe-holds Goldberg into the ring steps. He then hits the Big Ending and stands over Goldberg. He leaves to also check on Kingston, and he and Woods help Kingston to the back as Goldberg stirs.
—
Match 4 - JBL (4-7) w/ Shawn Spears vs. Eric Young (0-1)
Young wins with the Showtime Elbow drop at 7:02.
Following the match, Spears slides in and attacks Young while Jeff Jarrett and Wardlow come from the back. Spears plants Young with the C4, then Jarrett puts a long wig on Young, making him look like Chris Jericho. Jarrett puts the figure 4 on Young, and Spears takes his hand and makes him tap out.
Jarrett grabs the mic and declares himself the next Universal Champion, this weekend.
—
Scott Hall and Kevin Nash come to the ring. “Survey Says” they’re beating the Steiners this weekend. And after that, they’ll go after the AEW Tag Team Championships. But first? They’re going to kick some Jurassic Tail tonight.
Match 5 - The Outsiders (4-2) vs. Jurassic Express (9-5)
Nash hits the Jackknife Powerbomb on Jungle Boy for the win at 8:30.
—
A black screen. “Redeemer” appears in flames, followed by “coming soon.”

Main Event - AEW/UWA Women’s Championship contender match - Madison Rayne vs. Paige VanZant vs. Ronda Rousey vs. Beth Phoenix
Jade Cargill is at the announce table.
The four women tear down the house and have a tremendous match where any woman could win. Rayne hit CrossRaynes on VanZant, but a pin attempt was broken up by Phoenix, who hit the Glam Slam on Raynes; VanZant later hit the Pedigree on Rousey, while Rousey grabbed an arm lock on Phoenix.
As the time limit approached, VanZant locked in her own armbar on Rayne, while Ronda Rousey hit the Piper’s Pit on Phoenix and went for the pin. As the 3 was counted, Rayne tapped out at the same time and the bell rang. Both VanZant and Rousey raised their arms in triumph, as the ref grabbed Rousey’s hand. (Match time: 19:38)
In the confusion, a second ref ran down to the ring to confer with the first. They walked over and talked with the ring announcer, who said that both Paige VanZant and Ronda Rousey have been declared winners of the match and will receive the UWA/AEW Women’s title shot at Double or Nothing!
Jade Cargill is not happy, as the show ends.
AEW Rampage
May 19, 2023
Cody Rhodes starts the show, getting a big round of applause. He introduces his brother, and Dustin also comes out to the ring. Cody says he’s enjoyed working in the same company as Dustin these past few months, but apologizes for Dustin catching the bad end of a few beatings on account of Cody.
Cody says he’s always looked up to his big brother, and now it’s time for them to stick together. The Young Bucks are cowards and backstabbers, and it’s time that the Brothers Rhodes teach them a lesson, this weekend at Double or Nothing.
—
Match 1 - Angelina Love (5-3) vs. Brandi Rhodes (4-9)
Rhodes beats Love with the Shot of Brandi at 5:58.
—
Jon Moxley gives an intense promo backstage. He says that he’s tired of Bray Wyatt pulling strings that end up kicking Moxley in the face. It’s time for them to face off, one-on-one. He’ll make Bray Wyatt feel the pain.
—
Cody and Dustin Rhodes are shown leaving the parking lot, after getting in a car together. As they’re driving away, a car zooms in out of nowhere and smashes into the driver’s side door. The car backs up and speeds off.
—
Match 2 - Davey Richards (1-0) vs. Max Caster (0-1)
Richards gets the win following a low blow, with a roll-up, at 8:41.
—
Back to the parking lot, Cody and Dustin are being checked by paramedics. They’re wrapping Cody’s midsection. He also has a gash on his face. Dustin says he knows the Bucks are behind this. They’ll get their revenge.
—
We get a video package for Sammy Guevara vs. Rey Mysterio, inside a steel cage. Interspersed with their two previous matches, Guevara gives an interview about looking up to Mysterio as a little kid and saw Rey wrestle against Booker T. He’s modeled his career after Rey. He loves Rey. But Rey has had his time in the sun. It was offensive to see Rey crowned as the “Face of the Revolution” while Sammy wasn’t even part of the match. This weekend, at Double or Nothing, there will be no tricks. No managers to interfere; no rings to hit Rey with. Just Sammy Guevara and Rey Mysterio. Inside a steel cage. The Spanish God will prevail.

Back from break, Jade Cargill comes out to the ring, holding the AEW and Universal/UWA Women’s championship belts over her shoulders. She grabs a mic.
“In two days, the longest-reigning and most dominant champion in AEW — and across the entire UWA, for that matter — will face yet another unfair test. Instead of taking the fair, equitable step of making Paige VanZant and Ronda Rousey face each other for the title shot tonight, I have to face both of them…” She is cut off by Tony Khan, who walks out to the stage with VanZant and Rousey.
Tony - “Both of these women won on Wednesday night, at exactly the same time, in a remarkable finish. And I believe that remarkable finishes should be rewarded. So the two of them will face you this weekend. Furthermore, I also believe in rewarding exceptional performances. So, Jade — not only will you be defending both of your championships against these two competitors. It’ll be a Fatal Four-Way match against the winner of this next match, a second-chance match between Beth Phoenix and Tay Melo!”
Cargill is seething in the ring as Tony continues — “Also, it will be a two-falls match. The Universal Championship will be contested in the first fall; and the AEW Women’s Championship in the second.” Cargill glares at Tony as he turns and leaves the stage.
Main event - Second-Chance AEW/UWA Contender’s Match: Beth Phoenix (5-3) vs. Tay Melo (11-3)
Cargill stayed for commentary, complaining about the situation the whole time.
Melo hung tough against Phoenix, but the more experienced contender won with the Glam Slam at 13:17.
As the show ended, the 4 contenders for the UWA/AEW Women’s Championship gathered in the ring for a staredown as we get a final push for Double or Nothing.
