AEW Dynamite
May 10, 2023
The Apex opens the show, with Jeff Jarrett talking about defeating Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing. He says it’s a travesty that a punk from Canada has the Universal Championship. He’s cut off by the Canadian National Anthem…and out walks Eric Young!
Young says that Jarrett doesn’t know what he’s talking about — that Chris Jericho is a national treasure in Canada. And Young is here to shut Jarrett up. Jarrett says he’s saving himself for his title shot in 11 days, but if Young is itching for a fight, Wardlow is ready to roll. Young looks uneasily at Wardlow, but nods his approval, and the match is set for later tonight.

Match 1 - FTW Championship match: Hook © (15-3) vs. Dean Malenko (9-11)
Hook def. Malenko with the REDRUM at 9:18 after a well-fought match. The competitors shook hands after the match.
—
Natural Selection comes out to the ring. Cesar Duran cuts a promo about how it doesn’t matter who Benjamin and Alexander face at Double or Nothing…they will leave as champions. And so will Brian Cage.
Cage grabs the mic, but before he can get too far into it, Gable Steveson’s music hits and out walks the former All-Out Champion. Steveson asks if Cage remembers last year’s Double or Nothing, when Steveson pinned Cage, then Cage threw a fit and got suspended for months. Cage responds that when he came back, he won a battle royale for a title shot, and has been on a roll. While Steveson has been floundering since Joe beat him, Cage has been preparing for this chance for the last 8 months. Cage says he will get his win back over Steveson tonight.
Match 2 - Brian Cage (12-3) vs. Gable Steveson (9-2)
Cage def. Steveson at 12:48 with the Drill Claw. Steveson started off quickly, but Cage overpowered him for the win.

Paige VanZant was backstage earlier today with Coach. He asked her about what is next, after beating Ronda Rousey earlier this year. VanZant says that the only thing left on her list is to become AEW Women’s Champion. She wants to be the woman to end Jade Cargill’s year long reign and undefeated streak. She knows that Madison Rayne tossed her hat in the ring last week, but the title shot should be VanZant’s.
—
Match 3 - Paige VanZant (11-4) vs. Velvet Sky (1-6)
VanZant gets the win at 3:32 with a Pedigree.
—
Goldberg comes to the ring, wearing the World Championship over his shoulder. He talks about legacy and being the only World Champion in history to hold the WWE, WCW and AEW World Championships. He’s accomplished his goal of removing Cody Rhodes from contention. And now he’s got another young punk standing in his way.
The New Day comes out from the back. Big E says that facing him is different from facing someone like Cody Rhodes. Big E can deadlift two Goldbergs. He won’t be overpowered. And he’ll have a lot of fun while winning the championship.
—
Match 4 - Wardlow (0-0) w/ Jeff Jarrett vs. Eric Young (0-0)
Wardlow def. Young with a Powerbomb Symphony in 5:03. Young fought hard, but Wardlow was too powerful.
—
Jade Cargill comes to the ring, holding both of her belts. She pulls out a piece of paper and says it’s a list of the women’s roster in AEW. She goes down the list, name by name, and reads off each foe she’s beaten, stopping at Paige VanZant. She notes that she’s beaten Paige twice before, and wonders why Paige thinks she deserves another shot.
Ronda Rousey interrupts and says that Cargill didn’t read her name off her little list. Maybe because Cargill is afraid of her? Cargill asks why she should be afraid of someone who has lost to both Paige VanZant and Beth Phoenix. Rousey replied that those matches were flukes. Cargill replies that if you’re good enough, there are no flukes.

We get a recap of last week’s Rampage, when Bray Wyatt made his official debut and introduced his associate, a leaner and meaner Malakai Black, who hit the Black Mass on Jon Moxley. Black vs. Moxley is previewed for this week’s Rampage.

Main Event - Tag Title Contenders Match: Chosen Bros (8-2) vs. RVD & Sabu (4-1)
The Bros won after Cobb hit the Tour of the Islands on Sabu at 16:39. After the match, RVD & Sabu left the ring, while Cobb and Riddle celebrated. Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander slide in from ringside, with chairs, and lay out Cobb and Riddle. They stand over the fallen pair as the show ends.
AEW Rampage
May 12, 2023
As the show begins, we see Alexa Bliss entering the arena backstage. Her eyes are her normal color, and she’s wearing bright clothes, rather than the darker persona she’s sported recently. She says, to the camera, that her eyes have been opened thanks to Beth Phoenix, and thanks to Abadon’s doublecross last week. She wants Abadon in the ring, and wants to get back to what she likes doing best — entertaining fans and kicking ass.—
Match 1 - Jon Moxley (6-5) vs. Malakai Black (10-4) w/ Bray Wyatt
Mox and Black tear the house down with a physical match, Black with a lot of striking kicks and Mox with plenty of haymakers. Mox catches Black in a Paradigm Shift, but Black kicks out. He’s able to duck two Black Mass attempts and hits another Paradigm Shift, only for Wyatt to pull Black from the ring before the pinning attempt can be made. Mox hops out of the ring to confront Wyatt, who uppercuts him to draw the DQ at 14:29. Wyatt and Mox exchange blows briefly, until Black recovers and turns it into a two-on-one fight. The heels eventually lay Mox out with a Black Mass into a Sister Abigail.
—
The Young Bucks are out next, to a chorus of boos. They are all smiles as they ask the guys in the back to replay the end of last week’s Dynamite, when they hit the BTE Trigger on Cody Rhodes and cost him a shot at Goldberg. They call Rhodes a tool and say that they actually agree with Goldberg a little — while Cody’s family might have humble roots, Cody was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
This brings out Dustin Rhodes, who challenges either Nick or Matt to a fight tonight. They play “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” and Matt wins. So he’ll face Dustin in tonight’s main event.
—
Match 2 - Willow Nightingale (4-2) vs. Ronda Rousey (5-3)
Rousey wins with the Piper’s Pit in 6:28 and reiterates her desire for a title shot.
—
Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo come to the ring. He talks about Rey Mysterio being a sore loser. Sammy will agree to his one more match, and he’ll show why he’s the true Spanish God and future of this business.
Rey comes out to the stage and says that’s great. But if Sammy really wants to prove he’s the best, they’ll move the match inside the steel cage, where Sammy’s girlfriend can’t help. They stare each other down.
—
Main Event - Matt Jackson (1-0) w/ Nick Jackson vs. Dustin Rhodes (1-3)
Matt beats Dustin with a super kick after 8 minutes. After the match, the Bucks both move to attack Dustin until Cody — who was held up in traffic earlier — makes the save, wielding a chair. The Bucks scatter as the show comes to a close.
