AEW Dynamite
March 1, 2023
March 1, 2023
There’s a car crash over the loudspeakers, and Mick Foley walks out to cheers. He says that he and “Billy Boy” have never shared the squared circle. And, Mick is just the right kind of crazy to answer the challenge tonight. Goldberg smirks and says “you’re on.”

Match 1 - Sasha Banks (5-1) vs. Willow Nightingale (1-0)
Nightingale uses her size to her advantage, but the former UWA Women’s Champion uses her experience to overcome the size difference. She wins with a roll-up after 9 minutes. Following the match, Banks leaves and Jade Cargill comes walking out. They stare each other down on the stage, but Cargill walks by her and goes to the ring, where she berates Nightingale for not doing her job. Cargill hits the Jaded, and Banks comes running back to the ring. Cargill leaves the ring and glares at Banks.

Tony Khan is in the ring with an announcement. At March Madness on March 15, AEW will kick off its King of Trios Tournament. This won’t introduce a new championship, but will instead give the winning team a trophy, bragging rights, and the chance to challenge for both the tag team championships and All-Atlantic championship during May’s Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View. Eight teams will participate — and the tournament will kick off with RVD, Sabu & Dean Malenko taking on the LAX Trio of Hernandez, Homicide and Konnan on March 15. More teams and matches will be announced later. The tournament will wrap up at Fyter Fest in April.
—
Match 2 - Beth Phoenix (1-1) vs. Alexa Bliss (4-3) w/ Abadon
Phoenix wins after a back-and-forth match with the Glam Slam at 11 minutes. Abadon didn’t try to interfere during the match, and pulled Bliss from the ring following the match, while Phoenix looked on.

Rey Mysterio gives a backstage promo. He says he’s been fighting against giants his entire life, and he’s overcome them every step of the way. Joe thinks he’s going to break Rey, but it’s not going to happen. His desire is too strong.
—
Match 3 - LAX (7-5) w/ Konnan vs. The Acclaimed (6-3)
Hernandez pins Caster at 12:48 after the Border Toss. Konnan tripped Caster up from the outside, setting up the win.

VIP Lounge with MVP and Sammy Guevara
MVP asks Guevara how his little body can support such a big head, which leads to Guevara jumping him. They spill outside and fight up the ramp into the back. As they’re fighting, MVP hip-tosses Guevara onto a table in a food court-type area, scattering the food of the person eating there — it was Samoa Joe, who doesn’t look pleased. He grabs MVP and hits a quick suplex that breaks the table. Guevara gets up and thanks Joe, who just sneers at him before walking off.
—
Match 4 - Jake Hager (8-5) vs. The Hurricane (1-4)
Hager wins with the Hagerbomb in 4:19.
—
Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb are walking backstage. Riddle says they really need to get into the King of Trios tournament so they can get the title shot. Cobb replies that they don’t have a third person yet. Just then, The Hurricane walks by after his match with Hager. Riddle says, “Weatherman! Will you be our third!” Hurricane looks dejected and just says he doesn’t think they’d want him right now.
Riddle looks sad, but replies, “All right, Bro! But let us know if you have any good suggestions! Or if you change your mind.”

The Apex comes out to the ring. Jarrett says they’re going to win the King of Trios Tournament — the team of Beer Money and Shawn Spears — then the Apex is going to start building its war chest of titles again. They beat the “extreme” trio of RVD, Sabu and Dean Malenko last week. Hell, they should get a bye in the tournament because of that.
Jon Moxley shouts on a mic, and he’s standing up in the crowd. He asks if Jarrett ever shuts up. He’s not interested in this whole King of Trios thing. He just wants to get his win back from Jarrett and move on. Jarrett says that he’s already proven he can beat Mox, and doesn’t need to again. Mox replies that he’s heard that the UWA Champion is coming to All Out. If Jarrett runs from Mox’s challenge now, it wouldn’t look great when it comes time to get a title shot in May. Jarrett glares toward Mox as the segment ends.
—
Match 5 - Kofi Kingston (2-1) w/ Xavier Woods vs. Scott Hall (0-0) w/ Kevin Nash
Hall pins Kingston after a low blow behind the ref’s back, at 8:49. As Nash gets in the ring to start a beatdown, Rick and Scott Steiner run out from the back. The Outsiders back off and head to the back.
—
Natural Selection is backstage, with Benjamin, Alexander and Cage standing by while Cesar Duran talks. He mentions the King of the Trios Tournament. It sounds like Tony Khan isn’t including them in the tournament, which is plainly unfair. He vows to find a way into the tournament. And when they win, Natural Selection will have the night off at All Out, while Brian Cage will demolish whomever the All-Atlantic Champion is at the time.
—
Main Event - Bill Goldberg (2-0) vs. Mick Foley (1-1) - Championship Eliminator Match
Foley comes out wearing a Cactus Jack shirt and flannel overshirt. He yells “Bang Bang!” on his way to the ring. He and Goldberg exchange punches to start the match, and Foley gets Goldberg down with a drop-toe hold. But when they stand again, he whips Goldberg into the ropes. As Goldberg returns, he Spears Foley. He follows that up with the Jackhammer and a pin for the win in 2:30. After the bell, he hits another Jackhammer and leaves the ring as Cody Rhodes comes running out. Instead of going after Goldberg, Cody checks on Foley as the show ends.
