WCW Monday Nitro episode 14 for 02.13.23
Live from the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Don Callis
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Aubrey Edwards
The show starts off with a highlights package for Starrcade.
Ivory is in the ring. Some might remember she was an associate vice president for Continental Championship Wrestling, now World Championship Wrestling. Shane McMahon, nor Nick Aldis, are there tonight due to injuries from the brutal street fight at Starrcade. McMahon asked her to take care of some business tonight. She asks “Superstar” Billy Graham to come out.
He still has the WCW Gulf Coast Title belt he stole from Bruno Sammartino at Starrcade. He refuses to give it back. Ivory tells him if he does give it back, he can have a title rematch at the next pay-per-view with a referee of his choice. Graham had disputed Tommy Young’s ref work in the Starrcade bout. Graham agrees to that and hands the belt over.
Bruno Sammartino comes out and gets the strap. He tells Graham he could have taken that belt back from him whenever he wanted. But, he respected management enough to try to resolve matters calmly and peaceably their way. He doesn’t care who the referee is for their rematch. He’ll beat him clearly and cleanly in the ring once more. They exit.
Col. Robert Fuller comes out. He was vice president of CCW and is mad McMahon didn’t ask him to run things tonight. Ivory said McMahon felt that would be a conflict of interest given Fuller is the manager of WCW World Heavyweight Champion “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff. Fuller said she better not book a rematch from Starrcade between Magnum TA and Orndorff.
She said no. Orndorff and WCW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair will be in a mixed tag team match with Money in the Bank winners from Starrcade “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Lady Frost. As for Fuller, who stomped Magnum and bashed his head into the ring apron at Starrcade, he’ll wrestle Magnum TA tonight and all members of the Studd Stable are banned from ringside or Fuller is suspended for 90 days. He turns pale, looks like he’s going to be sick and runs off.
We get a hype video for the next ppv. SuperBrawl will be on Sunday, March 5, at The Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.

Tamina Snuka with “Number One” Paul Jones defeated Sara Del Rey by pinfall via Superfly Splash at 5:05. Snuka advances in the WCW Women’s Gulf Coast Title Tournament.

SoCal Val has Jake “The Snake” Roberts on the interview stage. “Everyone saw what I did to my own flesh and blood at Starrcade. I dumped my sister, Rockin’ Robin, and brother, Sam Houston, into a box full of snakes. If I would do that to them, just think what I would do to someone I’m not related to. The thing about a snake is they strike indiscriminately and you never know when and you never where. Nobody knows who I’ll go after next here in WCW, but if you think you know what I’m capable of, trust me, you don’t.”

MNM (Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury) with Melina defeated The Boogie Knights (Disco Inferno and Alex Wright) by pinfall of Morrison on Wright via Snapshot at 7:45. The Boogie Knights danced with the Nitro Girls on the way out to the ring and then danced with them after, despite the loss.

“Number One” Paul Jones is on the interview stage with SoCal Val. He hypes his new charge in Tamina Snuka and then talks about how he was right about Bobby Lashley. He kept telling Lashley he needed to turn his back on Junkyard Dog and Tony Atlas. He finally did, but they never saw it coming because they’re stupid.
JYD and Atlas come out and get in Jones’ face. They demand a title rematch tonight now the traitor is gone from WCW. Jones said he’ll flip a silver dollar in his pocket. Heads they get a WCW Trios Title match tonight, tails and it’s a WCW Tag Team Title match, since his guys have both belts now. It’s heads. Guess it’s going to be three on two, unless they can find another partner. Jones laughs. JYD and Atlas smirk, Monsoon said they obviously know something Jones doesn’t.

Former tag team partners Molly Holly and Taya Valkyrie explode in a first round match of the WCW Women’s Gulf Coast Title Tournament. Holly wins via pinfall at 10:43 via Molly-Go-Round. Taya looks pissed and doesn’t shake Molly’s hand when first offered, but she eventually does and raises Holly’s arm in victory.
-----
SoCal Val has Randy Savage and Lady Frost on the interview stage. “The Macho Man and the Icy Woman teaming up to take out two blonde bimbos, yeah. She’s so cold, but looks so hot. And the Macho Man is so cool, but is hot to knock Mr. So-So’s teeth down his throat, yeah, dig it.”

Magnum TA defeated Col. Robert Fuller by disqualification at 1:42. Magnum is destroying Fuller when Del Wilkes (the unmasked Patriot) runs out and attacks Magnum. Security Chief Steve Blackman then runs out and drives the heels off.
On the entrance stage, Fuller wants it to be clear that Wilkes was not a member of the Studd Stable when he ran out, but he is now! Fuller and Wilkes hug.
-----
SoCal Val has Kevin Owens and the Miracle Workers stable on the interviews stage. Owens is wearing a T-shirt that reads ‘Being Hogan’s friend doesn’t have a dental plan.’ “Everyone gasped when I stunnered Hulk Hogan at Starrcade. And all you fans were just as dense and clueless as he is. Being Hulk Hogan’s friend is like being a nurse in a leper colony. You’re thanklessly dealing with the diseased and risking getting infected yourself. I’ve now aligned myself with some real friends. The new WCW Gulf Coast Champions and a man in “Killer” Kross who has a win over Hulk Hogan. Well, we all want to get into that club. I’m challenging Hogan and any two bodies he can scrounge up in the back, and I don’t think he’s going to have any luck, to face me, Eli Drake and Mike Bennett in a six-man tag match next week on Nitro.”

Kurt Angle comes to the ring and says he doesn’t need the UWA Universal Men’s Title, because he has something even better, an Olympic Gold Medal and he’s willing to put that on the line tonight against anyone willing to face him. Brian Pillman Sr. comes out. He’s not going to take Angle on, but his son will. This isn’t Pillman throwing his son to the wolves like Davey Boy Smith does to Harry, this is Brian stepping aside for his son to have a prime opportunity to prove himself.
Kurt Angle defeated Brian Pillman Jr. by submission via ankle lock at 13:35. Angle was too cocky at the start, allowing Pillman to hang in there, but Angle dropkicks him out of the air on an Air Pillman attempt and then segues to the ankle lock. Pillman Sr. helps his son after the match and raises his hand in victory, because he stood toe-to-toe with the Olympic champion.
-----
SoCal Val has Paul Orndorff and Charlotte Flair on the interview stage. Flair completely dismisses Lady Frost who only won the Money in the Bank briefcase by being a half inch off from being wiped out by Molly Holly on the floor like everyone else. Whenever she cashes in that contract, her luck will run out. Orndorff tells Savage that they’ve fought before, but this is way different. This is WCW, this is him as the World Champion and this is here and now. Orndorff is the man in WCW and the Wimpy Man is nothing to him.

“Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff and Charlotte Flair defeated “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Lady Frost by pinfall of Flair on Frost via a feet on the ropes pin following a spear at 12:50
Savage and Orndorff were fighting on the outside during the finish. Savage nails Paul with his Money in the Bank briefcase. Savage gets in the ring and Flair has no problem stepping to him, but this allows Frost to spin her around and nail the Ice Pick DDT. Savage gets her briefcase and hands it to her. The first ever in wrestling double Money in the Bank cash-in is teased, but Orndorff comes around and drags Flair out and they run off clutching their title belts.

Tony Atlas and Junkyard Dog come out to the entrance stage and reveal the new member of the Dominators…“Big Cat” Ernie Ladd!
The Powers of Fear (Barbarian, Warlord and Men) with “Number One” Paul Jones versus The Dominators (Junkyard Dog, Tony Atlas and Ernie Ladd) for the WCW Trios Titles ends in a no contest at 8:18 when everyone starts brawling and referee Tommy Young can’t regain control. Everyone continues to fight around ringside and into the crowd as we go off the air.
