AEW Dynamite
Feb. 8, 2023
The show starts with the Apex coming out to the ring. Jarrett has the mic and complains about last week when Jon Moxley got to come out and replace Hurricane mid-match. Moxley needs to keep his nose out of the Apex’s business.
Mox comes out to the stage and says he was just trying to take out the garbage. Jarrett is just upset because he lost the AEW Championship, and then a shot at the UWA Championship. Shawn Spears calls Mox an annoying fly, and Spears is going to swat him and shut him up. Mox wants to throw down right away, but Spears says he needs to stretch first. They’ll face off later tonight.

Coach and a debuting Pat McAfee welcome fans to the show. Taz has taken leave from the announce table to concentrate on his wrestling career again.
Match 1 - Beer Money (2-1) vs. The Young Bucks (2-2)
The two teams put on a fast-paced match that ends when James Storm hits the DWI on Matt Jackson for the pinfall at 9:48. After the match, Roode grabs a mic and says they’ve proved time and again that they belong at the top of the card. They belong at the…apex…of the division, and it’s time for Beer Money to get a title shot.
—
Raven comes out to the ring and sits in the corner with a mic. “I suppose it always comes back to us, Taz. You stuck your nose into my business. You knew what Hook signed up for, and now you’ve signed up for the same thing. You aren’t the man you used to be. It’s your own funeral if you want to step in the ring against the Raven. I’ve circled the date of Revolution on my calendar. If you show up, it’ll be the end of your career.”
—
After the break, Malakai Black is in a dark room, pacing. Billy Kidman is sitting behind him, facing the opposite way.
“The House of Black is falling apart. The Butcher and the Blade are gone from AEW. And you’ve been pulling the strings. I can feel you tugging at me, prodding me along. I thought I could hold you off, but you’re already having an impact. You wanted to tear apart the House, and you have.” Black shifted his focus to Hook. He blames Hook for the House of Black failing. Hook still hasn’t beaten Black. It’s time to set things right. Black wants Hook, 1-on-1, one more time for the FTW Championship.

Match 2 - Serena Deeb (8-4) vs. Alexa Bliss (2-3) w/ Abadon
Bliss Beats Deeb with the Twisted Bliss in 8:12 after Abadon claws Deeb in the face. The duo starts to beat Deeb down more until Beth Phoenix’s music hits and the Glamazon runs down to the ring. Abadon and Bliss back off, but don’t leave the ring. Phoenix checks on Deeb and glares at Bliss and Abadon, who both tilt their heads to the side.
—
We come back from break to find Montel Vontavius Porter in the ring for the VIP Lounge. He calls down his guest and opponent for the night, Billy Kidman. MVP asks Kidman about the House of Black and how the group seems to be ending. Kidman scratches at his arms and looks away. MVP can’t get a response, so he says they’re going to get on with the show.
—
Match 3 - Face of the Revolution match qualifier: MVP (2-1) vs. Billy Kidman (5-7)
Partway through the match, Sammy Guevera emerges from backstage. He goes over to the announce table and tells Coach and McAfee that he should be the one in the ring. He hasn’t gotten his shot at qualifying for the match yet, and he’s the Dynamite Diamond Ring holder; the Spanish God. That punk MVP doesn’t deserve a shot.
MVP yells at Guevara to go away, but Guevara hops on the apron and gets in his face. Kidman rolls him up for 2, but MVP kicks out. The ref warns Guevara to not interfere. MVP is able to recover, and he wins with the Playmaker at 10:39. Guevara gets in the ring and starts jawing with MVP, who shoves Guevara away. Guevara responds with a punch to MVP — he knocks MVP out cold after hitting him with the diamond ring!
—
Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb are backstage. Cobb asks if Riddle heard Roode talking about how they should be top contenders. Riddle said he was polishing his scooter and missed it. But didn’t the Chosen Bros beat Beer Money last time? Cobb nodded, and they walked off.
—
Paige VanZant comes out after the break. She asks production to play back last week’s attack by Rousey, then launches into a promo: “Ronda, I don’t know whatever I did to you to piss you off so much. It can’t be just about your match against Beth a few months ago. But since then, you’ve broken my arm and you’ve assaulted me with a bat. Hell, we’ve never even had an official match. I used to respect you, Ronda. You paved the way for women like me in MMA to cross over into professional wrestling. But now? I think you’re jealous. There’s a crop of younger women who are hungrier than you. And you’re losing control. You’re right, I want a match with you. But it’s not going to be a regular match. I want you close and with no escape. I want you in the Octagon. MMA-style. No pinfalls. Only submissions and knockouts. And, b****, I’m gonna make you tap.”
—
Match 4 - Face of the Revolution match qualifier: Brian Cage (9-3) w/ Cesar Duran vs. Xavier Woods (2-1)
Cage notches the win with the Drill Claw in 12:40
After the match, the Steiners come on stage and walk toward the ring. Scott says he has a bone to pick with Cage after his attack on Rampage. All they wanted was their due rematch for the belts.
Woods and Kingston are also on the mic. They say it sounds like everyone has a little bit of unfinished business, and that includes the New Day.
Duran - “It sounds like both of you want the chance at the belts. We’ll let you figure that out, ideally in the ring, next week.”
—
Match 5 - Face of the Revolution Match Qualifier: Big E (4-1) vs. Homicide (0-2)
Big E hit the Big Ending for the win in 6:23.
—
Samoa Joe comes to the ring - “I tried to give you a way out, Gable. I told you to be careful what you wished for. You had your chance, and you didn’t pull it off. So next time, I’m going to kill you. See you at Revolution.
—
Main event - Jon Moxley (3-3) vs. Shawn Spears (10-4) w/ The Apex
Each Apex member stands on a different side of the ring. Spears is able to get the upper hand early thanks to some interference from the stable, but Mox fights back. He eventually gets the upper hand and hits a Paradigm Shift, but before he can go for the pin, the Apex attacks and Mox wins by DQ at 13:04.
The Apex beats him down, while Jarrett yells that Mox really should have minded his own damn business. JBL hits the clothesline from Hell, then they hold Mox up while Jarrett grabs his guitar. He breaks it over Mox’s head and stands with his boot on Mox’s chest as the show comes to an end.
