RECAP OF WWE SURVIVOR SERIES
WOMEN’S SURVIVOR SERIES MATCH : Rhea Ripley eliminated Bayley by pinfall at 8:56 after executing the Riptide on her. Shayna Baszler eliminated Lita by submission at 11:14 when he made her submit to the Karifuda Clutch. Bianca Belair eliminated Rhea Ripley by pinfall at 19:26 after she executed a Kiss of Death on her. Io Shirai eliminated Shayna Baszler by pinfall at 22:07 after Belair speared Baszler to set up the Empress of the Sky for a moonsault. Becky Lynch eliminated Io Shirai by submission at 23:47 after she trapped her in the Dis-Arm-Her. Bianca Belair and Awesome Kong were both eliminated via double countout at 25:15 when they were brawling on the floor and both failed to return to the ring. Trish Status eliminated WWE Women’s Champion Becky Lynch by pinfall at 31:45 after she gave her a Chick Kick. Dr. Britt Baker eliminated Trish Stratus by submission at 38:12 after she applied the Lockjaw. Dr. Britt Baker was the sole survivor of the women’s Survivor Series match.
UWA UNIVERSAL MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH : Chris Jericho defeated The Miz by pinfall at 12:15 to retain the UWA Universal Men’s Championship. Thanks to some help from “All Ego” Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky, The Miz was able to execute a Skull Crushing Finale on Jericho. However, Brock Lesnar showed up and chased Page and Sky around the ring, causing a distraction to the participants inside the ring. Meanwhile, Jericho had time to recover, and when The Miz turned his attention back to his opponent, he received a Judas Effect that knocked him out.
UWA UNIVERSAL TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH : FTR defeated AJ Styles and CM Punk by pinfall at 18:39 to retain the UWA Universal Tag Team Championships. This was a highly competitive tag team contest with many nearfalls in the last 5 minutes. The end came after Styles made a blind tag to become the legal man for his team. Punk thwarted a charging attack from Cash Wheeler with a discus clothesline, then hit Harwood with a running high knee strike in the corner. He lifted Harwood onto his shoulders to set up the Go To Sleep. Meanwhile, Wheeler got back up. Styles went for a Phenomenal Forearm, but Wheeler dove out of the way and Styles hit Punk instead. Styles took his eye off Wheeler when he realized what he had done, allowing Wheeler to chopblock him. Wheeler and Harwood gave Punk the Big Rig and booted him from the ring, then walloped Styles with a pair of lariats before giving him the Mind Breaker spike piledriver to get the win.
UWA UNIVERSAL WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH : Sasha Banks defeated Toni Storm by submission at 14:40 to retain the UWA Universal Women’s Champion. Both women brought the fight to one another. When Banks climbed the turnbuckle, Storm met her up top and hit her with stiff punches. She tried to set up for a top rope air raid crash, but Banks slipped free, did a springboard off the middle rope to execute the high angle backstabber to Storm, who was standing on the second rope, and rolled her into a Bank Statement. After the win, Banks boasted that no one could end her title reign.
MEN’S SURVIVOR SERIES MATCH : Adam Cole eliminated Randy Orton by pinfall at 8:20 after he hit him in the back of the head with the Boom! running knee strike. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin eliminated “Ravishing” Rick Rude by pinfall at 16:17 after executing a Stone Cold Stunner on him. Roman Reigns eliminated WWE World Champion “Stone Cold” Steve Austin by pinfall at 16:35 after giving him a spear. Before Austin was speared by Reigns, Rowdy Roddy Piper got him a pair of chair shots as Paul Heyman and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan distracted the referee and Austin’s remaining teammates. When Austin recovered, he went after Reigns, drawing security personnel to the ring. Austin gave them Stone Cold Stunners. It took Umaga and the Usos coming out and beating the crap out of Austin before he was incapacitated as everyone else brawled.
At the tail end of the brawl, Eddie Guerrero intercepted the transfer of brass knuckles from Heenan to Cole and used them to knock Cole out. Guerrero hid the evidence inside Cole’s trunks, then went to get the referees attention. That’s when Shawn Michaels eliminated Eddie Guerrero by pinfall at 19:32 after catching him by surprise with Sweet Chin Music. Guerrero complained to the referee that he was knocked out by Adam Cole with brass knuckles and told him to check Cole’s trunks. Cole denied he did anything, but when the referee checked his trunks, he found something. Cole pulled the brass knuckles out and said he didn’t know how they got there. His protest didn’t matter. WWE Intercontinental Champion Adam Cole was eliminated by disqualification at 20:07, and Eddie Guerrero was reinstated into the match.
“Macho Man” Randy Savage eliminated Shawn Michaels by pinfall at 30:46 after he made a blind tag to Eddie Guerrero, who executed a frog splash on him, and followed with his diving elbow drop. Rowdy Roddy Piper was eliminated by countout at 35:14 after John Cena gave him an Attitude Adjustment through the announce table and failed to return to the ring. John Cena eliminated Roman Reigns by pinfall at 36:09. After Piper was counted out, Reigns decided to take a walk. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin returned and attacked him from behind. He gave Reigns a Stone Cold Stunner, then rolled him into the ring where the Macho Man gave him a diving elbow drop, Guerrero gave him a frog splash, and Cena picked him up and executed the Attitude Adjustment. “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Eddie Guerrero, and John Cena were the survivors for their team.
UWA UNIVERSAL MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLEMANIA III TITLE SHOT MATCH : After Triple H lost the WWE World Championship, he said he didn’t want his rematch against “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Instead, he wanted to win the biggest prize in all of wrestling, and so he asked his father-in-law to give him a match against Ricky Steamboat for his UWA Universal Men’s Championship title shot instead. Having defeated Steamboat at Summerslam, Triple H felt confident going into this match. He had more than enough reason as Mr. McMahon said he would personally see to it that no one cheats his son-in-law out of this opportunity by making himself the special guest referee of the match.
The deck was stacked against Steamboat, but he was determined to overcome the long odds and retain his prized title shot. He maintained his composure even when Bobby “The Brain” Heenan repeatedly complained about Steamboat’s legal offensive maneuvers to the referee. Mr. McMahon gave Steamboat many warnings that he might be disqualified. That wouldn’t have normally been a bad thing, but just before he called for the bell to ring to start the match, the special guest referee had Howard Finkel announce that the title shot would change hands on a disqualification or countout. Each time Mr. McMahon spoke to Steamboat, it halted his momentum and allowed Triple H to attack and retake the advantage. Triple H often moved the fight to the outside of the ring, leaving Steamboat there to try to take the countout win. However, he couldn’t be kept out of the ring, even with The Brain sometimes sneaking in a cheap shot or two behind the back of a referee who sometimes appeared to deliberately look the other way, and who employed a faster count than the typical official.
When Steamboat rallied late, executing a series of successful attacks, he executed a piledriver and made a cover. Mr. McMahon counted. 1……2….. kick out. Steamboat got a little hot under the collar, but refrained from lashing out for fear of a disqualification. He climbed up to the top rope and waited for Triple H to get to his feet. As Triple H was getting up, Mr. McMahon acted as though he got something in his eye and stumbled around rubbing it, falling backwards into the ropes. Steamboat was crotched on the top rope. Triple H quickly went to the top rope and executed a superplex. He made a cover and Mr. McMahon miraculously recovered. 1..2.. kick out! Triple H picked up Steamboat and gave him a Pedigree. Mr. McMahon got in position. 1..2. the lights went out.
When they came back on, STING was in the referee’s position with his arm suspended in air as if he was waiting to make the third count. He held that position until Triple H turned his head and locked eyes with him. Then, Sting pounced. The hit Triple H with punches and chops. “Ravishing” Rick Rude ran out and Sting put the fight to him. He got Triple H and Rude in opposite corners and hit them both with Stinger splashes. Sting lifted Rude into a gorilla press and dropped him out of the ring. Triple H tried to clothesline Sting, but he ducked it and gave him a dropkick. When Triple H got up, Sting gave him a Scorpion Death Drop.
The lights went out and came back on. Mr. McMahon stood in the center of the ring. He saw Triple H down and Ricky Steamboat making the pin. He got down to count, but shook his head no. He was convinced that something nefarious had happened. He got up and turned towards the timekeeper but saw Sting waiting in the corner. Sting came out and clotheslined him. He gave him a second one. Mr. McMahon crawled towards the corner to get up. Sting gave him a Stinger Splash then pounded his fists on his chest. Finally, Sting gave him a Scorpion Death Drop. Steamboat gave Triple H his second piledriver of the match and made the cover as Sting dragged Mr. McMahon over to position and slapped his hand onto the mat three times to end the match. Ricky Steamboat defeated Triple H by pinfall at 23:11 to retain the right to challenge the UWA Universal Men’s Champion for the top prize in all of professional wrestling at WrestleMania III.
