PRO WRESTLING X
"PWX 6: ANGLE VERSUS PAGE"
From VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena
Jacksonville, Florida
09/11/2021
The PWX opening logo spot, with a light cascading over it from right to left, opens the show. We then begin the opening montage, as an instrumental of "Handle Business" by Foolio plays over the package. We then cut to the crowd as we hear the voice Jimmy Smith welcoming the crowd. He then points out Jacksonville native Foolio in the crowd, who gets a nice response. We then cut to see Jacksonville Jaguar players Travis Etienne and Josh Allen enjoying themselves, smiling and posing for the fans, as well as TIM TEBOW, who gets a huge pop, as he smiles and waves to the fans!
We then cut to the table where Jimmy is joined by his partner on color commentary, legendary fighter and wrestler Josh Barnett, as they welcome everybody to PWX 6!
Smith and Barnett get right into talk about the main event. Smith says Kurt Angle and Diamond Dallas Page have been trading barbs back and forth for the last month over social media after Diamond Dallas Page called out the Olympic gold medalist following his win over "The Viper" Randy Orton. Angle's last match with Chris Benoit was marred with controversy, as Angle appealed the New Mexico State Athletic Commission to get the ruling of the match overturned after claiming negligence on the part of referee Earl Hebner. Tonight, though, the senior official has been reinstated after taking a brief leave following the incident, and Earl Hebner will be the official for tonight's main event! Barnett says Angle needs to stay focused and forget about the official and think about the man in front of him. He says Angle has all of the accolades that matter both in amateur and professional wrestling, but DDP makes up for a lot of that with grit, heart, and a little thing called the Diamond Cutter, which he can execute from out of nowhere and end a match any time.
Jimmy Smith sends things over to Dasha Gonzalez, who is standing near the stage on a platform, smiling and holding her microphone.
Dasha says she had the pleasure of sitting down with both Angle and Page yesterday, and here is what they had to say!
We cut to a video package, where we see Kurt Angle sitting in the locker room seated on a bench across from Dasha, who is in a folding chair. Dasha asks Angle what he thinks about his opponent, Diamond Dallas Page, and how he plans to deal with his unorthodox style.
"Dasha, first of all, let me just say thank you. Thank you for showing me a little freakin' respect, because that's hard to come by around here! First, I'm getting disrespected by Chris Benoit. When I show him up at PWX 3, what do I get? More disrespect, and this time it's by the damn official! Who apparently never read the rulebook, and now I hear this clown is officiating my match again! Can you believe that!? What a load of crap! This guy shouldn't even be allowed to wear a polo shirt with stripes on it, let alone a ref's shirt, but here we are, Dasha, in Eric Bischoff's little playground, and guess what? His buddies get the preferred treatment. That's right, it's true, it's true! Look at this! A man like Diamond Dallas Page in the ring with an Olympic gold medalist, an American freakin' hero, and how does that happen? Because he and Eric Bischoff like ride Harleys together and barbecue at each other's houses, well that's just great!
If I were a fan, I'd demand a refund, because all you're going to see in this main event is a world class athlete mauling some bar bouncer from New Jersey! And I know we live in the age of sideshow freak boxing matches with YouTube stars fighting basketball players and everything else under the sun, but this is where the ultimate disrespect comes in, Dasha, and that's for the SPORT of wrestling! Sure, Page, he can beat up some pretty big names around here. He beat Randy Orton, like I'm supposed to be impressed! Okay, pal, well when I get you down on the mat and show you what real wrestling is all about, you can have something actually impressive to talk about around the grill at Eric's house, because you'll know for the first and probably only time in your life you'd actually rubbed elbows with greatness! And right here, I got a little something for Earl Hebner..."
Angle pulls a pair of glasses out of the pocket of his sweats.
"Maybe you should try a pair of these, Early, and try not to blow the freakin' call this time... and I'll give you a spoiler alert-"
Angle points to his right wrist.
"- it's going to be THIS WRIST you're raising at the end of the match! Oh, it's DAMN TRUE!"
Dasha kind of shrugs, and then we cut to her standing outside of the building with DDP. The fans in the arena can be heard cheering over the package, as Page paces around, hands on his hips, wearing a big leather fanny pack and a sleeveless Diamond Cutter shirt. Dasha informs DDP that Kurt Angle has made it clear he is not worried about facing Page tonight and doesn't think he belongs in the same ring with him. Dasha asks Page how he is going to approach taking on the Olympic gold medalist.
"Well, I tell ya what I'm not going to do, Dasha... I'm not going to worry about who the referee is, because I don't give a damn! If the referee is able to cost you a match, you probably weren't doing so great there, hot shot! So let me break it down for ya real easy. I don't need to be some amateur wrestler, because first of all, there ain't nothin' amateur about D-D-P! I get paid to beat people up, and tonight, I'm gettin' paid real good to put a hurtin' on our little golden boy here who thinks he's God's gift to wrestling. Newsflash, bozo, I don't care about being THE BEST WRESTLER, and I don't care about your little feelings, either, jackwad... all I care about is getting that ONE, TWO, THREE, and then I'm going after the belt, PERIOD! And while Kurt's been busy worrying about not getting invited to barbecues, about Earl Hebner's eyesight, and while he's been obviously trying to compensate for somethin' with those big old medals he carries around his neck, he should have been working on his next excuse for why he couldn't win the match, because I'm gonna have two hands raised at the end-"
DDP puts up his signature Diamond Cutter pose before dropping it down inverted in front of him.
"- and you know he loves to talk about winning those medals with a broken neck, but after I'm done with him, he's leavin this match with one, courtesy of the DIAMOND CUTTER! BANG!"
DDP pops out towards the camera, sending his arms quickly to either side of him and we cut back to Dasha at ringside.
Dasha is smiling on the stage and says, "There you have it, back to you, Jimmy and Josh!"
We then head back to Jimmy Smith and Josh Barnett, who banter a bit over what they just heard before we cut to a graphic introducing our officiating team for the evening.
Senior official Earl Hebner, Charles Robinson, Tim White, and Chad Patton.
And with that, we head to the ring where Tony Chimel stands in as our ring announcer for the evening.
Tony welcomes the fans before introducing the referee for this contest, Tim White, and then goes over the rules of the contest. We then get underway with our first contest of the evening!
MATCH ONE
STANDARD RULES
Austin Theory (0-0) vs. Damian Priest (2-0)
Referee: Tim White
Theory seemed very arrogant going into this match, which Josh Barnett thought might be a mistake, given just how dangerous and versatile Priest is. Theory showed some good moves early, but seemed a bit too full of himself. Theory would try to hit his Slingshot Rolling Dropkick on Priest, but Priest would catch him with a Lariat mid-move to break it up and get a two count! Theory would stagger to the turnbuckles and Priest would come in, only to have Theory put out his hand to try to keep Priest back, and Priest caught a finger to the eye! Tim White stepped in and broke things up, pulling Priest to to buckles while backing off Theory to the opposite corner. White checked the eye to make sure Priest continue, and Priest said he could, while looking obviously angered, not convinced it was just an accident by Theory. Theory didn't seem very apologetic as Tim White instructed them both to wrestle. Theory and Priest lock up. Theory tries to whip Priest, but Priest reverses and ducks under, sending Theory behind him. Theory turns and Priest catches him with a PERFECT Roundhouse Kick right to the jaw, and Theory drops like he just got hit with a stun gun! Theory is out cold, and Priest makes the cover as the fans cheer for Priest and he gets the three count!
Winner by Pinfall: Damian Priest
Dasha hits the ring and congratulates Priest on the win. She says that makes three wins for Priest, and asks him who he has in sights next. Priest says he's aiming for the top, but he hasn't been given the top contenders. He says he doesn't make the matches, but he feels he's ready for a big step up and asks the fans if they agree. The fans give him a good response, and he says he wants real contenders, as he can't be denied.
MATCH TWO
STANDARD RULES
Maxwell Jacob Friedman (0-0) vs. Ricochet (0-0)
Referee: Chad Patton
Before the match begins, MJF grabs the microphone and says the fans need to shut their poor, undesirable mouths, because they bought the ticket to see him, so they can shut up! The fans are booing MJF and chanting "Asshole!" at him, as Ricochet looks like he is about done waiting. MJF says everybody hates him because they wish they WERE HIM, and tonight, he is going to guarantee a victory over Ricochet, and he guarantees everybody is going to see why he is the fastest rising star in professional wrestling! He continues by saying that even though Ricochet likes to pretend he's something special, the truth is he is just hiding from the truth... and no matter how many flips and whirls he does, he can't change the fact that he's nothing but worthless trailer trash from Kentucky, which is still better than being from Jacksonville, but not much! And tonight, Ricochet and the five functioning cells the city of Jacksonville have between them in the audience are going to have to deal with that fact when MJF is declared the winner tonight!
Ricochet bows up and looks like he might do something, but Chad Patton steps in and instructs him to get to his corner or risk being disqualified and fined. MJF mocks Ricochet obnoxiously behind the referee's back and incites more boos from the fans as they are ready to see Ricochet tear him a new one.
Finally the bell sounds, and this match kicks off! MJF scrambles to start, and then gets in the ropes, telling Ricochet to back up, and Chad Patton gets in between them to separate, per the rules. MJF says this thing is happening on his time, and tells the fans to shut up! Ricochet settles down for a moment, backing up, and MJF acts as though he wants to lock up, before sending a right cross into the jaws of Ricochet! Ricochet stumbles and MJF starts sending boots into his midsection, backing him up into the buckles before laying in with stomps. MJF poses and smiles for the crowd, taunting, before turning and running, trying to dive onto Ricochet in the corner, but Ricochet dodges it! MJF catches the buckle with his face and stumbles out, and he's holding the top rope, hurting. Ricochet then proceeds to kick MJF to the legs a few times, before sending a big kick into the back of his leg that sends MJF ass over tea kettle ala Curt Hennig, and the crowd are eating it up!
Ricochet is taunting the fans now, getting them fired up, and they are going nuts. MJF pulls himself up in the corner and Ricochet runs in now, but it's MJF who reverses it, getting a boot up! Ricochet spins and falls to his knees, selling his jaw as MJF regains some composure. MJF heads up to the middle turnbuckle and yells for the fans to "WATCH THIS!" before flying off the buckle looking for a Double Axe Handle, only to get caught with a Codebreaker from Ricochet! MJF flies back, selling it to high heaven, and rolls out of the ring! The crowd is eating it up!
"GET UP, HOMEBOY!"
Ricochet is motioning for MJF to get to his feet on the outside, and then he runs off the ropes... and then he flies!
Ricochet crushes MJF on the outside, and the fans are chanting, "RICOHET! RICOCHET!"
Ricochet takes a few seconds to recover, as MJF is grasping at the air, trying to figure out where he is. Ricochet grabs MJF by the hair and tries to lift him, while Chad Patton is counting on the inside of the ring. MJF manages to catch Ricochet with a low blow that Patton couldn't see. The fans are booing wildly as MJF smiles, holding up Ricochet by his neck with his right arm between his legs. MJF then lifts Ricochet up and scoops him, holding him upside down before leaping and spinning, driving Ricochet on the steel ramp with a Tombstone Piledriver! MJF hams it up, milking the reaction for a moment as he smiles, looking down at a motionless Ricochet. MJF gets to his feet and then grabs Ricochet by the arm, before pursing his lips and squinting, thinking about it, before turning and slowly walking back towards the ring.
Ricochet is grabbing at the air now, trying to get himself together, but the count is at 15 from Chad Patton. Patton gives MJF a look of disdain as he continues his count about as slow as he can, but it doesn't matter. MJF just rests against the buckles, folding his arms, as Ricochet is on all fours on the outside. The count gets to 19 and Ricochet tries to get closer to the ring, but falls on his face, reaching out desperately, but the count comes to an end. MJF smugly struts to the center of the ring as the fans are rabidly booing and he is pointing at his right wrist.
Winner by Countout: MJF
Chad Patton reluctantly raises MJF's hand as he yells, "I TOLD YOU! I TOLD YOU ALL!" Ricochet is sitting on the outside, elbows to knees, holding his head and looking something between incredulous and dejected. We then head backstage.
Backstage, we have PWX President Eric Bischoff standing in with newly hired Executive Producer Shane McMahon.
Bischoff introduces McMahon to the crowd, and they shake hands. Bischoff says that he's got some huge announcements to make, as he has two upcoming events to inform the fans about. He says they have been working tirelessly to expand PWX to every market available, as the demand has skyrocketed for the greatest wrestling and entertainment product in the world today. It is his distinct pleasure to announce that Saturday, October 2nd in from the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago, Illinois, PWX will proudly present PWX 7: PUNK VERSUS BLACK! But that's not all, because the following Saturday, the 8th of October, PWX is heading international to Toronto, Ontario, Canada's Scotiabank Arena for PWX 8: BENOIT VERSUS DYNAMITE KID!
You can hear the crowd popping for these announcements over the video.
Shane McMahon says that all sounds great, but really, there's a third huge event to announce, and it's the biggest of them all. It's one we all have been waiting for. McMahon says he had a goal, a vision, when he joined PWX. He saw how great PWX could be, and he wanted to help propel PWX to greatness. That is why he is proud to announce that PWX has signed a deal with The Paramount Network to bring the greatest wrestling on Earth to the greatest fans on Earth on Thanksgiving day, as Thursday, November 25th, PWX will be presenting PWX 9: GOLDBERG VERSUS LESNAR,where we will see Bill Goldberg challenge Brock Lesnar for the PWX Premier Championship! And to make that show even bigger, we will be crowning the PWX TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! And all of this will be at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!
Bischoff says that is amazing news, and they couldn't have done it without the fans, and they thank you immensely from the bottom of their hearts. McMahon then says that is true, but we really need to get back to the action. Bischoff agrees and sends it back to Jimmy and Josh at ringside.
MATCH THREE
X DIVISION RULES
Darby Allin (0-0) vs. Karrion Kross (1-0)
Referee: Charles Robinson
Darby is the scrappy underdog and tries to overcome the power of Kross, but it doesn't seem likely. Darby is able to use the X Division rules to his advantage, using a chair at one point, along with the outside environment to rattle Kross, even getting the fans to believe he might win the thing. Jimmy was verbally cheering him on as he went up top while Kross was down in the ring, looking for the Coffin Drop. Kross adjusts on the mat as Allin flies off without looking and catches Allin in a Rear Naked Choke! Allin holds on for a moment, but he is forced to limply tap out as the unpainted side of his face turns a dark shade of red. Kross looks fierce in victory here.
Winner by Submission: Karrion Kross
MATCH FOUR
STANDARD RULES
Ken Shamrock (1-1) vs. Taz (0-0)
Referee: Tim White
This was a tough back and forth contest, which saw both men try to use submissions and suplexes to get their way. Shamrock is trying to keep himself relevant, while Taz is trying to make a good first impression in a new company. Taz realized he needed to stay on top of Shamrock and not give him any room to work, including pushing him into the ropes and blasting him with very stiff crossface punches. Shamrock would check his nose and find blood and yell out, "WHAT THE FUCK!?" Taz would close the gap with a straight kick to the gut after that, but Shamrock would unload with some very stiff, fast punches to the midsection and head of Taz, seemingly stunning the "Human Suplex Machine", before taking him over with a fast Belly to Belly Suplex. Shamrock tries to lock on a Cross Armbar, but Taz manages to use his power to roll over it and deliver a series of hammer fists to send Shamrock into a bit of retreat. Taz would take the back and he attempted to on his Tazmission. Shamrock would scramble and then use a throw to pull Taz over him and slam him on his back, keeping ahold of the arm. Taz spins off of his back, but Shamrock gets him into a Triangle Choke! He locks it on, and he pulls the right foot to really cinch it in. Taz shows his fight and pulls Shamrock up, slamming him Powerbomb style onto the mat, but he is unable to break the hold and uses a lot of energy. He has nowhere to go and has to tap out, the match is over.
Winner by Submission: Ken Shamrock
Dasha Gonzalez hits the ring and congratulates Ken on his victory. She says Shamrock seemed to be in some trouble after taking those blows to the face, but he seemed to find another gear and finished the match shortly after. Ken agrees, and says he thought he was in here wrestling with a man, with a guy with a little class, but it turns out he was in here with a scumbag who was cheat shotting him! He says it didn't matter, because he choked him out and that is that. Dasha says he certainly did that and asks what his next move will be. Shamrock says it feels good to be back in the win column, but he has unfinished business. He says it was great getting to compete for the Heavyweight belt, but he needs to finish the job, and he hopes it's Brock Lesnar holding the title after PWX 9, because he already knows he can beat Goldberg, but it's Lesnar who he needs to finally beat. Shamrock thanks Dasha off mic and continues to celebrate as she sends it back to Jimmy and Josh.
Jimmy Smith says he has been alerted to something going on in the back, and the feed goes to a camera backstage.
Backstage, we see MJF leading a camera man around, looking for Bischoff or McMahon, and he ends up finding them both. MJF greets them both with a smile and asks how they liked his performance tonight. Eric and Shane kind of share a look. Eric says that it was... interesting. MJF balks, saying it was great and they know it! He says he heard the announcements earlier, and he thinks one of these bums like Punk or Benoit should be facing him in the main event of those shows, or even LESNAR! He says one of them should wise up and give Goldberg the boot and put him on against Brock!
Shane asks MJF if he knows you can't win the title by count out, and MJF doesn't seem pleased with that response.
Bischoff says that gives him an idea. He says he was really impressed in that match, but he thinks... well, he'd like to see it again. MJF yells out, "WHAT!?" And Bischoff says MJF had better be ready for a quick turn around, because he IS going to be wrestling at one of those shows... PWX 7, to be exact, but he's not going to be facing Punk... or Benoit... or Lesnar... but he will be facing Ricochet again, and this time, it'll be X Division rules, and this time, there will be no count outs or disqualifications for him to take advantage of.
McMahon looks at his watch and says, "Oh, Eric, uh, remember that thing we've got to do right?"
Eric replies with a smile, "Oh, you many anything else besides talking to this asshole?"
"Exactly."
Bischoff and McMahon brush past MJF, who is livid.
MJF yells out, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?"
He then yells at the camera man to turn it off, as he is clearly embarrassed and the fans are cheering in the arena. We then head back to Jimmy and Josh at the commentary table.
MATCH FIVE
TAG TEAM RULES
The Hardy Boyz: Jeff Hardy / Matt Hardy (1-0) vs. The Briscoe Brothers: Jay Briscoe / Mark Briscoe (0-0)
Referee: Charles Robinson
This match started off relatively civil, with the fans starting out firmly in the Hardy Boyz' corner, but things would get a lot closer to 50/50 by the end. Matt Hardy would send Mark Briscoe out of the ring with a Discus Punch before dropping to all fours and allowing Jeff Hardy to jump off of his back onto Mark on the outside to get a good pop! On the outside after a period of brawling, Jay and Mark would send Jeff into the crowd onto chairs in the front row with a Double Suplex. Back inside, Jay and Mark would hit a sequence ending with Mark delivering a Lariat to Matt to get a two count after Jeff broke it up. Jeff and Matt would take back control and deliver Poetry in Motion on Jay. Matt would deliver the Side Effect on Mark before he and Jeff would deliver a Leg Drop/Splash off the top rope, but Jay would break it up with a Double Stomp to Matt's back. Jay would send Matt out of the ring, only to get hit with a Twist of Fate from Jeff. Jeff would go up top and go for the Swanton Bomb, but Mark would pull Jay out of the way. Mark delivers a Springboard Dropkick to Jeff, sending him out of the ring. Matt Hardy is back in and kicks Mark, trying for the Twist of Fate, but Mark reverses it and Jay comes in and smashes Matt in the back into the buckles. Jay proceeds to lift Matt up on his shoulders and Mark comes off the top, delivering a MASSIVE Doomsday Device! Jay gets the cover on Matt as Mark flies through the ropes and tackles Jeff back to the floor, and it's all over! The Briscoes get the win!
Winners by Pinfall: The Briscoe Brothers
Jay Briscoe gets on the microphone. "All ya'll just found out who the Briscoes are! We heard about that little title match they callin' for at PWX 9... and we ain't askin', we're TELLIN' ya, Dem Boys are in that match, BET! And whoever else they pull out of their ass to fight us better be ready to MAN UP!" The fans chant for the Briscoes as they head to the back.
MATCH SIX
STANDARD RULES
Diamond Dallas Page (1-0) vs. Kurt Angle (0-0-1NC)
Referee: Earl Hebner
Angle would start off the match jawing at Hebner, which lead to Hebner pointing at the logo on his chest and threatening to throw out Angle right off the bat, which got the fans chanting, "ANGLE SUCKS! ANGLE SUCKS!" Angle reluctantly backs off, and the match gets started. DDP looks jacked up and ready to go, but Angle shows off his superior wrestling skills right off the bat. Angle gets take downs and throws DDP down a few times, and he taunts the fans, WHOOING and jawing with everybody. Angle smack talks Page and yells at him to bring it on! Page manages to land a knee to the midsection of Angle and deliver some massive punches that rock the Olympian before taking his down with a Discus Clothesline! Angle is rocking and DDP rolls him up with a School Boy to get a two count! Angle pops up and DDP attempts a Diamond Cutter, but Angle backs out of it and rolls to the outside, getting boos from the crowd!
DDP is standing on the inside, swaying back and forth holding his knees, motioning for Angle to get back in and Angle looks taken aback, trying to catch his breath and realign his jaw.
Angle rolls back in and DDP actually lets him stand up before kicking him and locking on a headlock. Angle tries to shoot DDP off, but Page drops to a knee, cinching it in and Angle is frustrated. Angle takes Page over and tries for a pin, but DDP rolls through it and he's still got him! Angle resorts to pulling DDP's hair, and Hebner jumps all over him! Hebner gives him a warning, and then tells both men to wrestle!
DDP tries for the headlock again, but Angle ducks under it and takes DDP down, grabbing his ankle and applying the Ankle Lock! DDP rolls through it before Angle can really get it in and sends Angle into the buckles. DDP gets up and comes running in, delivering a shoulder block to Angle's midsection. DDP then gets up on the ropes and begins delivering the 10-punch combo as the fans chant out, only to have Angle duck under at 8 and grab him from behind. DDP tries to fight it, but Angle takes him over with a HIGH ANGLE GERMAN OFF THE ROPES! DDP folds like an accordion and Angle rushes over on all fours, plowing his head into his side and pushing him over onto his back, pinning him down, BUT ONLY A TWO COUNT!
Angle hops up, yelling at Hebner about a slow count before pulling down his straps! DDP staggers up and Angle closes the distance, attempting to hit the Olympic Slam, but DDP slides off of it... DIAMOND CUTTE- NO! Angle escapes and reverses, rolling and trapping DDP's leg and he locks on the Ankle Lock! DDP is so long, though, and so strong, he is able to pull Angle over and get his fingers on the ropes, but Angle rolls the hold over and pulls DDP towards the center of the ring...
And Hebner gets in and breaks up the hold! He pulls Angle off and says that it's a rope break! Angle looks up with his mouth agape, and he turns a bright shade of red! Angle hops up and calls Hebner every name in the book! All the while Page gets up to his feet. Hebner threatens to call for the bell, and Angle tells him to go ahead, when suddenly Page turns him around and delivers the DIAMOND CUTTER! DIAMOND CUTTER! The crowd goes nuts and DDP lays back on Angle, lazily hooking the near leg and Hebner counts relatively quickly. ONE, TWO, THREE, IT'S ALL OVER! DDP GETS THE WIN!
Winner by Pinfall: Diamond Dallas Page
Page is going nuts, running around the ring and slapping the fans hands, hopping into the crowd as they cheer him on! He is announced the winner, and once Angle comes to, he can't believe it. He holds his neck on the mat before pounding his fist on the mat. Angle grabs a chair on the outside and tosses it in a tantrum before exiting.
Dasha heads to the crowd and catches up with Page, who is partying with the fans. Dasha doesn't even bother asking a question as Page just talks into the mic.
"OVERTURN THAT, MONKEY BOY! I TOLD YOU WHAT WOULD HAPPEN! AND I'M COMIN' FOR THE BELT! BROCK... BILL... WHOEVER, WHATEVER... YOU'RE GONNA FEEL-THE-BANG!"
The crowd is partying and celebating with DDP as the show as Jimmy Smith signs off for him and Barnett, and the show comes to an end.
