CCW Superstar Saturday on SCA, episode 25
The show opens by showing the entire ODB vs. Andy Kaufman match from Kaufmania followed by the in-ring promo featuring Kaufman and Jerry Lawler, who was the special guest referee for the match. By winning the match, Kaufman gained full control of the company and sold half of it to Jerry Lawler so he could bring wrestling back to Memphis.
The camera pans the Andy Kaufman Studios in Dothan, Alabama, and then comes upon the combined commentary team of Bob Caudle, Dutch Mantel, Gorilla Monsoon and the Honky Tonk Man.
GM: Good morning one and all to the last conventional episode of Superstar Saturday as you know it. As you saw by how we opened the program, Continental Championship Wrestling still exists, but it’s fragmented into two brands.
BC: Jerry Lawler will be opening the Mid-America division in Memphis, Tennessee, upcoming with Bruce Prichard as commissioner, because Lawler wants to wrestle as well. Myself and Dutch will be the commentary team for Mid-America and we’ll be doing a studio show for Superstar Saturday.
HTM: Myself and Gorilla will be with the Gulf Coast division that will still be based here in Dothan, Alabama, but doing more arena shows for Wednesday Warfare. Andy Kaufman wants to be a manager and occasional wrestler still, so Col. Robert Fuller will be acting as commissioner.
DM: We’ll be hearing from Prichard and Fuller later on as each will be making announcements regarding new divisions and title belts for their brands. Mid-America will have a women’s division and Gulf Coast will have a cruiserweight division.
BC: Some announcements have been made of how talents will be divided, some more announcements are to come. A lot of different grapplers have left CCW, but a lot more exciting talent is scheduled to come in.
GM: Right now, let’s hear from Kaufman and Lawler in the ring.
The camera pans to show Andy Kaufman gloating to the fans in the middle of the ring. Lawler stands off in the corner with his eyes narrowed as he stares down his showboating mortal enemy.
AK: Everything’s just coming up Kaufman. I won the match at Kaufmania to prove that men are physically superior to any woman and that I’m smarter than any other man. I might not have ever defeated Jerry Lawler in a wrestling match, but out maneuvered him and outsmarted him as I knew I would.
JL: That’s enough, Andy. (the fans boo Lawler too) I’m not proud of what I did, but it had to be done. My only solace is that I will build Mid-America into the premiere company here in the Mash Up Wrestling Universe and eventually, Kaufman, I’ll get you in the end.
AK: Ha, ha, it is to laugh. I’ll just wait until you run Mid-America into the ground and then I’ll come and scoop it up, uniting Continental Championship Wrestling once again. I just gave you the rope you’ll hang yourself with.
Lawler teases a punch, Kaufman ducks and covers as the crowd pops slightly.
JL: You run your brand, I’ll run mine and we’ll see who comes out on top. If you think this means it’s all over between us, you’re wrong.
Lawler leaves the ring. Kaufman smiles like he was never scared and goes back to taunting the crowd.

BC: Coming out now is the commissioner of the Mid-America brand who will take care of a lot of day-to-day operations since Jerry Lawler will be a full-time wrestler. We welcome Bruce Prichard to tell us all about a new exciting division for the brand.
BP: It was clear that under Andy Kaufman, CCW would always lack a very important component to any major wrestling promotion: a women’s division. Myself and Jerry Lawler have nothing but respect for female grapplers (an astute viewer can catch Dutch Mantel rolling his eyes) and we want to give some really unsung and underrated women of the Mash-Up Wrestling Universe a new chance to shine. On March 28, we’re going to have a one night tournament to crown the first ever Mid-America Women’s Champion. The special will also feature the first appearance ever in CCW of the MUW Women’s Champion Asuka. And she’ll be defending that title in a first time ever, anywhere match up against Kamille.
BC: And how was the field for the tournament chosen.
BP: We’ve hired 10 women to get the division going, plus Kamille who was already under contract. To have a field of eight we did a random draw and the two gals left out will be getting a showcase match here now.
With that, Carmella comes out and gets in Prichard’s face.
Carmella: First of all, Mella is money. Second, because of that, I should be in this title tournament over anybody else. Third, you’re lucky I decided to grace this jerkwater hell hole with my presence, because, honey, Dothan, Alabama, is no Staten Island. Fourth, Mella is money. I know I said it before, but it bears repeating.
BP: All I can say, Carmella, is go win this match and see if you can turn some heads.
Carmella: Turning heads, I do that anywhere I go.

Smiley, bouncy Cherry extends her hand to Carmella for a shake with glee. Carmella takes it, but pulls her in for a kick to the gut that doubles Cherry over. Jumping face buster. Whip to the corner followed by a monkey flip. She gloats. Split leg drop. She gloats some more. Whip to the ropes, Cherry ducks a clothesline and comes back with a Thesz Press. Snap suplex. She sets up the Cherry Valley Driver. Carmella slides out and tries a Twist of Fate, but Cherry shoves her out and tries for the Best Superkick Ever, but Carmella grabs the ropes to dodge it. Cherry doesn’t recover in time from the miss and eats the Princess Kick.
WINNER: Carmella by pinfall at 3:48

GM: The Mid-America brand is not the only one getting a new division and title. Here for the Gulf Coast, our commissioner has some exciting news too. Welcome now, Col. Robert Fuller.
RF: Let me first say, I’m thrilled to finally to be working for someone in Andy Kaufman, and not my brother, who recognizes my wrestling knowledge and skill in management. We want to deliver exciting action here in the Gulf Cost division and we know featuring the lighter grapplers, those weighing 225 pounds and under, is the way to go. We’ve hired some new cruiserweights and positioned several great wrestlers we already had under contract.
GM: I understand that includes Ricky Morton as Robert Gibson injured his knee at Kaufmania in the tag team battle royal and will be out at least six months.
RF: Bad news for Robert, but perhaps good for Ricky as we immediately decided to add him to the tournament. Right now, we’re going to show you what the cruiserweights can deliver with a bout between two new hires for that last slot in the tournament.

They trade off on an armbar to start and then trade off on a headlock. Armstrong pushes Sydal off into the ropes and they do a long crisscross sequence that ends with Sydal landing a spinning savate kick. Standing moonsault hits knees. Armstrong with a series of arm drags. Sydal goes into the corner. Armstrong charges and Matt leaps over him. Brad turns around and is surprised with a monkey flip. He stands into a flying head scissors. Leg capture suplex and Sydal goes up top for the shooting star press. Armstrong pops up top and catches him with a super side Russian leg sweep. One…two…thr…Foot on the bottom rope. Armstrong sets up a piledriver and Sydal reverses into one of his own. Shooting Star Press hits.
WINNER: Matt Sydal by pinfall in 8:15

GM: We’ve talked about two new titles coming into CCW, one for each division. However, two other belts are being retired. That’s the CCW Six-Man Tag Team Titles held by SCU, who have left the promotion, and the Wild Card Title, held by the man coming out here now, “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig.
Footage is shown of Hennig winning the title back from Sid at Kaufmania before we cut live to Curt.
CH: Not only was I the longest serving champion in the history of the Wild Card Title, I’m also the only person to ever hold it twice. You might think I’d be mad to be stripped of it, but Andy Kaufman and Col. Robert Fuller wanted to reward me with the perfect opportunity here in the Gulf Coast Division for me being so understanding about it. There is going to be a bonus match at the cruiserweight title tournament show on March 21. Kurt Angle will be putting the Gulf Coast Title on the line against me. And my win will make it truly, a perfect night.

Footage is shown of Steve Austin beating Nick Aldis to be named the number one contender to the Southeastern Heavyweight Title at Kaufmania. We then go live to Austin and Sunny with Monsoon and HTM.
GM: By winning that match and Randy Savage claiming the Southeastern Title at Kaufmania that means you’ll have to face your old rival here in CCW. It’s fitting that this new chapter in CCW history begins with the most storied rivalry we’ve had so far.
SA: I’d rather face anyone else in this company, either brand, than Randy Savage yet again. But I will do what has to be done to claim that Southeastern Title and then become the first ever Mid-America champion.
GM: I understand whoever wins will go to Mid-America and the loser will stay here in Gulf Coast.
SA: I’m good with that either way, because it means I finally can be free of Randy Savage nipping at my heels everywhere I go. But, know this, it will be me going to Memphis as the Mid-America Champion.
Sunny: And where the Stunning One goes, I go. Now, it’s already been decided the Midnight Express will be going to Mid-America regardless of the outcome of their tag title match here in a moment. So, to make sure they are well taken care of, I have sold their contracts to a manager synonymous with the Memphis area – Downtown Bruno!
Bruno comes out with a big cigar in his usual suit.
DB: That’s right! With wrestling back in Memphis, it means Downtown Bruno is back in town too. I’m the new manager of the greatest tag team of all time. Sweet Stan and Beautiful Bobby, the Midnight Express. If the Von Erichs think they can beat my men, well they caught a ride on the wrong train.

David and Kevin start out. They circle each other and tease kicks. Stan gets a bit too close, Kevin grabs the leg, spins him around and hits an atomic drop. Lane turns into an arm drag. Eaton runs in and takes an arm drag. Both men go to the floor and confer with Bruno. Kerry comes over and Bruno yells at him. They go back to the ring with Stan tagging Bobby and Kevin tags David. They grapple. David gets a whip to the corner and follows with a high knee. Whip to the far corner and he follows with a second high knee. Hip toss out. Seated dropkick to the back of the head. He controls Eaton with an arm bar and tags out to Kevin. He comes in and takes over on the arm bar, turning it into an arm wringer. Eaton gets a thumb to the eye. Patrick warns him. Tag to Stan. Lane slingshots in with a clothesline. Vertical suplex and tag to Bobby, who comes in from on high with a knee drop for two. Scoop slam off the ropes for two. Eaton gets a leg scissors on the mat and reaches out to tag Lane. Stan comes in with a double stomp off the second turnbuckle. He goes to a surfboard. Kevin refuses to submit and Lane eventually breaks. Tag to Eaton. Whip to the ropes and a double back elbow try. Kevin ducks under and hits a double flying clothesline on the way back. Tag to David.
Atomic elbow to Lane. Atomic elbow to Eaton. Lane pops up into a dropkick. Eaton pops up into a dropkick. David signals for the claw on Bobby. Bruno jumps up on the apron and yells at Patrick. Kerry comes over and pulls him off the apron. Bruno gets in Kerry’s face, surprisingly not scared. He jabs his cigar into Kerry’s eye, who screams and turns away. Kevin jumps down off the apron to check on Kerry. Patrick and David look over, Eaton nails a low blow. Quick tag to Stan for the Double Goozle. After the pinfall, David rolls to the floor and they check on Kerry, who is holding his eye. They help him to the back as the camera moves back to the commentary position.
WINNER: Midnight Express by pinfall of Lane on David at 15:48
GM: Coming up after the break, we’ll hear from…oh no, who let him in here.
Monsoon points and the camera moves to catch Bobby “The Brain” Heenan strutting onto set.
BH: It’s good to see you too, Monsoon.
GM: I figured you’d still be getting the tar and feathers off of you from getting run out of Florida.
BH: That’s the past, Monsoon, and I have always been focused on the future. And the Gulf Coast brand will be going back to the future.
With that the Original Four Horsemen of Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson come out.
BH: The only thing that could make the greatest stable ever in professional wrestling history better is for them to align with the greatest manager ever in professional wrestling history. I’m managed more champions than the ham and eggers in this studio today have ever seen. And I’ve got one goal only, to make the Gulf Coast, horsemen country.
RF: If I felt any better there would have to be two of me. Woo! I’m back where I belong with my cousins the Andersons and the best friend a man could ever have in Tully Blanchard. Now, we’ve got Bobby Heenan steering the ship. Baby, I couldn’t be any higher than if I was joining the mile high club with a wild woman. Woo!
GM: I don’t see “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig out here and he does have a title match against Kurt Angle.
RF: Kurt Angle might live by the Three I’s, but the Nature Boy lives by the three B’s – booze, broads and belts. Woo! We’ve got no beef with Curt Hennig. Curt can saddle up and ride next to us anytime. If he wins the Gulf Coast Title at the cruiserweight tournament…well, we’ll just see from there. Because rather it’s Curt Hennig or Kurt Angle, to be the man you’ve got to be the man. And the Nature Boy is more the man now than he’s been in a really long time. Woo!

Footage is shown of Randy Savage defeating Brian Cage and winning the Southeastern Heavyweight Title at Kaufmania.
GM: Here with us now is “Macho Man” Randy Savage. In just a few moments you’ll have your first and last title defense of the Southeastern Heavyweight Title before it becomes the Mid-America Title. And it’s against your longtime rival Steve Austin.
RS: Stunning Steve, we said never again after the dog collar match at Glorious Grapple and here we are locking up one more time for the last time. Loser stays here in Dothan and the winner goes to Memphis. My old stopping grounds, uh-huh. Where the Savage became the Macho Man, oh yeah. And if there was ever anyone who was a bigger thorn in my side than Steve Austin in my life, it was Jerry Lawler. And if Jerry Lawler had two thorns in his side other than me, uh-huh, it was Austin Idol and Eddie Gilbert. I hear they’re going to Memphis too, uh-huh. Maybe you can tell me, Gorilla. Maybe you can tell me, Bob Caudle. Maybe you can tell me Honky Tonk Man or Dutch Mantel. Why would Jerry Lawler want his three biggest rivals in Memphis? Then I thought, maybe he didn’t. Uh-huh, maybe he didn’t have a choice in the matter. Maybe Kaufman said if you take Memphis then you take the guys most famous there. If I stay here in Gulf Coast, I’ll have my eye on Andy Kaufman. If I do go to Mid-America, I’ll have that eye firmly on Jerry Lawler. Because to me there’s not a difference between the two anymore. I see the same no good rat. Oh yeah!
