INTERNATIONAL PRO WRESTLING
"FRIDAY NIGHT WRESTLING"
EPISODE 2
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS
We get a highlight reel opening of the weigh-ins from the previous evening, with the promos by Jerry Lynn and Buddy Murphy regarding their Middleweight title match in the main event this evening. Joey Styles and Jeremy Borash are now standing in, and Styles welcomes the fans here and he is excited for this event, and puts over the main event. Styles says that Lynn seems positive that he can out work Murphy with his style, while the champion, true to his character, believes Lynn is in over his head and should be happy to be getting the rub and paycheck working with him. Borash notes that this Boston crowd looks riled up and they want to see some action, so let's get this show on the road!
Middleweight Match
Sean Waltman vs. Super Crazy
Waltman and Crazy would start this match off trading takedowns, before Waltman caught him with a spin kick and then taunted Crazy and the fans. Waltman seemed a little too confident, and Crazy made him pay for it later, turning up the heat on him and taking him to the outside, delivering a Running Swinging DDT from the apron to the floor! Back in the ring, Crazy scoops and slams "Syxx" and tries to go for a Springboard Moonsault, but Waltman catches him with the knees. Waltman delivers the X-Factor afterwards, but Crazy manages to kick out at two! Waltman tries to lock on the Buzzkiller, but Crazy slips out of it and runs the ropes and catches him with a Swinging Headscissors, followed by a kick and Brainbuster, but still just a two count! Crazy calls for the end and grabs Waltman, looking for the Crazy Bomb, but Waltman drops down and breaks free, delivering a low blow and then hitting the Black Mass kick, knocking Crazy completely unconscious and lays back in a cocky manner to get the three count.
Winner by Pinfall: Sean Waltman
Waltman looks very satisfied with himself as Borash comes in to interview him after the match. Borash says that Crazy had Waltman reeling a few times in there and then Waltman had to dig down into his bag of tricks to get things done. Waltman laughs and says he's offended. He said he was never in trouble with this guy, this guy was here to make him look good and that's it. He says he's just going through the motions, beating these jabronies, because everybody knows that that title being defended tonight, that Middleweight title, is going to be around the waist of "The Kid" as soon as he gets his shot. He says he doesn't care if he has to beat Jerry Lynn again, like he has all of their career, or if it's Buddy Murphy or whoever, when the time comes, it's going to be "Syxx" on the clock. He gives a little crotch chop as Borash pulls away and sends things back to Joey Styles, who sets up the next match.
Heavyweight Match
Curt Hawkins vs. Ridge Holland
This match started fast and it didn't look good for Hawkins at all. Holland stormed right across the ring and Overhead Belly to Belly Suplexed him over half way across the ring, yelling out and posing dominantly after his display of power as the fans gave a decent round of applause. Ridge would then deliver a big Rugby Tackle, sending Hawkins through the ropes and outside of the ring, and that looked even scarier. Ridge yells at Hawkins to get back into the ring, making Hawkins think about it and contemplate it before heading in. Hawkins came in and was able to land a kick and a few punches to Ridge before attempting a whip, but Ridge was able to reverse it and pulled him right into a Headbutt! Brutal! Ridge picks up Hawkins and delivers his Northern Grit, smashing him on the back of his neck and it was all over in impressive fashion.
Winner by Pinfall: Ridge Holland
Jeremy Borash came in and congratulated Ridge on an impressive debut. He said he looked very poised and dominant and asked how he feels being here in IPW. Ridge says he is not intimidated to be here, no matter all of the names on this roster. He says he is the "Game Changer" around here, and it's everybody else that had better be ready for him, not the other way around. He says any man stepping into that ring with him taking him lightly is going to find their lights out and the game over very quickly. Borash says it's hard to argue with that and then sends it back to Joey.
Lightweight Match
Gran Metallik vs. Jamie Noble
Noble got massive heat and boos from the crowd, coming out wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat and threatening to slap fans before the match. He pointed at the hat before, taunting Gran Metallik and yelled he was sending him back to Mexico on a stretcher before the bell sounded. Metallik came across fast and fiery, as it was clear the taunting Noble had done had gotten under his skin and the he made him pay for it. Noble would manage to turn the tides later, catching Metallik with a leg pick in mid-air to take him down before locking on a Calf Killer, getting the quick submission after that, and the fans were booing loudly at this turn of events!
Winner by Submission: Jamie Noble
Noble puts his hat back on and smiles as the fans boo and Borash enters the ring. Borash takes the mic before Borash can say anything and scolds the fans, calling them ridiculous and says they need to recognize greatness in front of them! He says he is a patriot, and the salt of the Earth, the picture of a self made man in America and what all of these low lifes and all of these bad hombres coming into this country unwanted should aspire to be: a great citizen, and a champion of freedom! And he says he's not going to just be a champion of freedom, but if Isaiah "Scared" Scott ever stops ducking him, he'll be the Lightweight champion too! He hands the mic back to Borash, who never got a word in, and took off, yelling at the fans and mocking them all the way out of the ringside area.
Heavyweight Match
Austin Theory vs. Cameron Grimes
This was a more spotty back and forth contest, which showed the athletic ability and stamina of these two men. They were coming in at Heavyweight tonight, but either man could be a Middleweight and that match pacing definitely reflected that. These are two young guys who probably should have slowed things down a bit so that the fans could really absorb and appreciate what they were doing, but the potential was clear and the finish came out of nowhere as Grimes caught Theory running in with a Backflip Slam to get the three count.
Winner by Pinfall: Cameron Grimes
Grimes seemed ecstatic after the match as Borash approached him and congratulated him on the win. Grimes had great energy in his interview, coming off very likable. He says that he knew he could hang in there with Austin Theory, but he said Theory is a great specimen, and well, Hell, he's just happy he got the opportunity and was able to show what he could do in here. He says he needed that win bad, and he's hoping he can keep the momentum going, because IPW has the best roster on the planet, so it's hard to really stand out, but he says he knows what he's got and he's going to keep fighting hard for these people and for himself and he's not stopping til he gets to the top!
Lightweight Match
Chad Gable vs. Dragon Lee
Chad Gable was making his debut here, and he seemed to ooze confidence as he made his way out to "Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty, wearing semi-short trunks sporting the American flag. Gable and Lee would have a very quick back and forth exchange early on, leading to Lee sending Gable to the outside with a knee strike, followed by a flying headscissors from the apron. Gable would manage to grab Lee by the tights on the outside and send him face first into the guard rail, followed by a Northern Lights Suplex on the floor. Back inside, Gable takes down Lee with a beautiful double leg and gives him trouble, locking on an Arm Triangle, forcing Lee to get to the ropes. Gable pulls up Lee while still having his head trapped and delivers a Side Mount Suplex, floating over smoothly but only earning a two count. Gable stays on top of Lee, but Lee fires back with forearms and manages to get Gable off of him. Lee whips Gable into the corner and follows him in, but Gable evades. Lee runs up the buckles and back flips out of the corner, before running and springboarding off the ropes, only to have Gable side step and grab him from behind in mid-air before delivering a BRUTAL German Suplex into the buckles! Gable grabs Lee out of the corner and Double Underhooks him into a suplex, which he floats over into a Butterfly Clutch on the mat! Gable has it cinched in and there is nowhere for Lee to go in the center of the ring, and he is forced to verbally submit.
Winner by Submission: Chad Gable
Chad Gable is highly satisfied and playing to the fans, standing on the ropes and trying to lead them in a "GABLE!" chant, but is getting a mixed reaction for his antics. Jeremy Borash hits the ring and he gets a "WHOO!" from Chad Gable. Borash let's him know that he and everyone here were impressed with this showing, and Chad Gable says nobody should be surprised. He says he has been the best pound for pound for wrestler on the planet for a long time, and he says it's about time everybody started to take notice. He says he's never lost a match and he's not starting now. He says he is the picture of American exceptionalism, he stands for the country, stands for the flag, and doesn't stand for any crap in the ring and he'll be cleaning it up around here, night in and night out! He says he's the people's champion, the real champion, and it's only a matter of time before the gold is around his waist, because when you're the best wrestler in the world, they don't just call you champ, they call you Chad Gable! Borash thanks Gable for his time and Chad says he's glad everybody could see him, and he leaves to a loud but mixed reaction.
We head back to Joey Styles, who calls Chad Gable a pompous ass, but he can't argue with the results so far. He then sets up the next match for us with the tale of the tape.
Middleweight Match
Chris Candido vs. Dean Malenko
We had a huge debut here in this match, as "The Ice Man" Dean Malenko was taking on "Hard Knox" Chris Candido in what would end being a truly classic Middleweight contest. Malenko was definitely a step ahead in the technical wrestling department, but Candido was certainly no slouch and he had more than a few tricks up his sleeve that he would use to gain the advantage and shift the momentum throughout the match. The fans were behind Malenko here, as Candido would choke him against the ropes and antagonize them, mocking Malenko before putting the boots to him. Candido would go looking for his Blonde Bombshell off the top, but Malenko would manage to block it and deliver a Super Belly to Belly Suplex, earning a two count. Candido would take control back after an Enzuigiri, followed by a Belly to Back Suplex, but when he went up top for the New Jersey Jam, there was nobody home! Malenko would deliver a Double Underhook Bomb, transitioned right into a Texas Cloverleaf, and Candido would tap out pretty much as soon as the hold was cinched in, really selling the agony of the hold like a true professional.
Winner by Submission: Dean Malenko
Jeremy Borash hits the ring and congratulates Malenko on the hard fought win. Malenko says every match is a hard fought one, and he came in prepared for Candido's tricks and antics. Borash asks Malenko how he feels being in IPW and what he thinks of the competition in the company. Malenko says he feels great about being in IPW and wrestling in front of some great fans all over the territory, but he says he's not much for talking out of his ass like a Buddy Murphy or that jack ass in the match before him. He says he's going to just take care of things in the ring, and it's nothing personal right now, it's just business, and everybody had better keep it that way if they know what's good for them.
Styles puts over the strong words of Malenko after the interview, saying that's the kind of guy he can respect and he expects big things from in IPW. We then get a set up for the next match, which looks to be another mat wrestling war.
Lightweight Match
Kushida vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
This match was absolutely grueling to watch, as these two put on a tough battle of Pancrase inspired grappling that really earned the respect of the fans by the end of it. Neither man would willingly give up a hold, with each man trying to lock on a hold to find the finish. Both men favor the Cross Armbar to finish their matches typically, but because of that, neither seemed able to lock it in and that made for an interesting chess match, as they had to dig a little deeper into their arsenals to try to overcome. Kushida would continue to try to work the arm of Sabre, while Sabre had decided his best course of action was to attack the leg and also try to disable to deadly kicking power that Kushida possesses. The match would break down into a war of hard strikes near the end before Sabre would manage to catch a kick by Kushida and take him over with a reverse Dragon Screw, right into a Bridging Heel Hook, pulling back and cranking the foot of Kushida, forcing him to tap pretty quickly and earning a huge, yet exhausting, victory in the process.
Winner by Submission: Zack Sabre Jr.
Sabre would do his interview kneeling in the corner, drenched in sweat with welts on his chest and legs. He would tell Jeremy that he knew he was in for a fight, but it never makes it any easier, and he sure doesn't feel all that great about it right now. He says later tonight or maybe in the next day or two it will sink in that he was actually the winner, but right now he feels like he's been in an auto collision. Borash says that he was informed before he came up by Dan Severn in his ear piece that it has been decided that at ShowDown: Brooklyn, Zack Sabre has earned a shot at the Lightweight champion, Isaiah "Swerve" Scott! Sabre bursts up out of the corner, smile on his face and holding up his fist as the fans cheer, and now he is full of energy! He says, "NOW, JEREMY, I CAN FUCKIN' CELEBRATE! THANK YOU EVERYBODY!" He takes a bow for the fans, and tells Scott he's going to be ready for another fight in Brooklyn, and just like tonight, he's going to find a way to win!
Middleweight Title
Buddy Murphy (c) vs. Jerry Lynn
Buddy Murphy would make a huge and pandering entrance as he made his way to the ring to "Shipping Up to Boston", and he proved that he is a great showman, even though Jerry Lynn looked decidedly unimpressed with the long entrance. The place was buzzing, though, and we had a big match feel here. The war of words between Murphy and Lynn got pretty heated and personal over the course of the build up to the match. Lynn would say that he was going to impose his will on Murphy and wrestle him to the mat, and while Murphy made it clear he thought he was too strong and fast for Lynn to deal with. Lynn would do a good job in the first five or so minutes of this match, taking Murphy to the mat after a quick exchange with a Rear Waist Lock, and then putting on the pressure with an Abdominal Stretch. Lynn would modify into an Armbar, and then a headlock, taking Murphy down and then locking on a Headscissors, but Murphy continued to find ways out of Lynn's holds with slick reversals or brute strength. Murphy would manage to escape an Arm Wringer and evaded another Headlock and delivered a series of open hand strikes and a low kick. Lynn would dive for the legs of Murphy for a take down, but Murphy would escape, but Lynn would hold onto the trunks and try to wrap of Murphy from behind with another Rear Waist Lock, but Murphy would grab Jerry's left arm and duck under his right, pulling Jerry's left arm and delivering a MASSIVE Rip Cord Knee Strike, knocking Lynn loopy on the mat! Murphy would then show his strength, dead-lifting Lynn off of the mat and delivering a Powerbomb, folding him over for the pin attempt, but Lynn kicks out at two! Murphy isn't done, though, as he grabs Lynn by the wrists and BLASTS HIM AGAIN WITH A KNEE STRAIGHT TO THE FACE! Lynn looks to be unconscious and Murphy folds him over with both legs and pins him down tight again, and this time it's over! Just like that, in about ten minutes, Buddy Murphy was able to put together a devastating string of moves to completely knock out Jerry Lynn!
Winner by Pinfall, and STILL IPW Middleweight Champion: Buddy Murphy
Buddy Murphy runs out of the ring and he gets on the guard rail, and he's celebrating with the fans! He does a victory lap before grabbing his championship and holding it over his head in the center of the ring and posing for some photos before Jeremy Borash can get a question in. Borash congratulates Murphy on a successful first defense, and commends him on it being very convincing. Murphy says that of course he was convincing. He says Jerry Lynn is a pretty good wrestler, but he took some bad advice and it didn't work out for him. He says his strategy was crap, and he couldn't hang when the lights were brightest and stakes were highest, just like Buddy Murphy said he wouldn't. He says that he is everything he says he is and more. He says he's a fighting champion, a great champion, and the best wrestler today, and there's not a man on this roster who could stand and bang with him. He says he would accept a challenge from anybody, anytime, and it would be the same result. He said everybody is going to find out, just like Jerry Lynn did, that it doesn't matter where you came from or what you've done before, there's only one Buddy Murphy and he's the one putting the asses in the seats and everybody else is just lucky to be here!
Suddenly, we see someone walk around the guardrail and up the steps, wearing a black button up and pants... it's ROB VAN DAM!
RVD has entered the ring and these Boston fans are on their feet! RVD helps goes and checks on Jerry Lynn, giving him daps before heading over to Buddy Murphy, who is asking what the Hell he wants. Borash welcomes Rob Van Dam, and RVD says that he, just like everybody else, is tired of Murphy running his mouth and running down this promotion! He says everybody knows that ROB! VAN! DAM! is the WHOLE! FUCKIN'! SHOW! and he says it's about time Buddy Murphy actually backs up his mouth. He says Murphy is calling himself "Big Match" Buddy, but he's usually fighting little guys and trying to look tough, but RVD says he doesn't think he can hang with the big boys. RVD says that at ShowDown: Brooklyn, it's Buddy Murphy who's going to look like a chump and look small time, because Rob Van Dam is challenging him to a Heavyweight match!
Buddy looks around at the fans and adjusts his belt on his shoulder. Murphy takes the microphone back and says that RVD is nothing but a glorified stunt man, and the only reason he gets cheers is because he's a feel good story, because everybody is so amazed that somebody as stupid and untalented as him has made it this far in the business! If he wants to get embarrassed like his old dancing partner Jerry over there, then that's only proving his point, and he'll see Van Dam at ShowDown: Brooklyn!
RVD just laughs off Murphy's comments as Borash reacts to this huge blockbuster announcement! Joey Styles is putting over this huge match made for the next supershow and the fans are cheering. RVD jumps up on the buckles and does his signature double thumb pose and the show goes off the air.
