RoH Wrestling
Friday, May 8th, 2020
Toronto, Ontario Canada
Announcers: Mauro Ranallo & Christian
No lights, no pyro. We start off tonight’s show with a pre-taped segment from Ring of Honor General Manager, Jeff Jarrett.
Jarrett welcomes everyone back to Ring of Honor after a very long 1 month hiatus. Double J explains that due to the travel restrictions he’s stuck at home in Nashville, but promises that the RoH roster will continue to put on the best possible matches with the talent they have available, before announcing tonight’s Main Event as Kenny Omega vs. Edge in a dream match! Jarrett also announces that due to the limited roster, he is suspending the weekly title defense rule for the RoH Television Championship, meaning that Kevin Owens no longer needs to worry about defending his title every week until the roster is able to expand later down the road. On behalf of both himself and RoH Owner Eric Bischoff, Jarrett once again welcomes everyone back to RoH Wrestling before he fades out and we head to the ring for our first match of the evening.

Match #1: Singles Match
Michael Elgin vs. Petey Williams
Petey Williams is making his RoH debut against one half of the RoH Tag Team Champions, Michael Elgin. This match is nothing more than a squash for Elgin who re-establishes himself in the eyes of the RoH audience as a dominant force after being off of tv for quite some time. Williams does manage to get in offense on Elgin, but it’s Elgin who walks away the winner after planting down Williams with an Elgin Bomb for the 3-count victory.
Winner: Michael Elgin by pinfall @ 9:12

We head back to the secluded RoH studio where Mauro Ranallo and Christian are safely calling tonight’s action. Ranallo hypes Michael Elgin’s dominant performance in that last match before reminding the audience at home that Kenny Omega and is going to be wrestling Edge in tonight’s Main Event.
Christian calls this match a dream match for both the RoH audience, but also the wrestlers themselves as both men have a mutual respect and admiration for each other in this business. Christian says he’s going to go with his best friend Edge as the winner tonight, but says not to count out Kenny Omega as he’s capable of beating anyone in Ring of Honor. Ranallo then asks the RoH fans to join them immediately after the Main Event as they will have an exclusive interview with Kurt Angle to close out tonight’s broadcast. Christian promises it’s an interview you won’t want to miss as we fade out to our first commercial break of the evening.

Match #2: Singles Match – Non-Title
Davey Boy Smith, Jr. vs. Kevin Owens ©
We head back from commercial and are immediately back in the action with the second match of the night. Davey Boy Smith, Jr. is out alone tonight as Brian Pillman, Jr. is stuck in the US and Tyson Kidd is not here tonight. It is noted at Jim Neidhardt was told not to show up due to his age. Both men lock up early with Smith actually overpowering KO in the beginning as he takes control of the match early on. This match does wonders in building Smith up as an actual midcard threat which will help out the Hart Dynasty whenever they can all get back on television together. Owens manages to gain control of the match after Smith bend over too early for the back body drop, which allows Owens to counter with a knee smash that put him in the driver’s seat. Owens works over Smith for some time, before Davey Boy manages to regain his control on Owens. The end of this matches comes just after the 14-minute mark when Smith, looking to put Owens away, picks him up for a Running Powerslam, but KO manages to slide behind Smith, spin him around, and nail the KO Stunner for the win!
Winner: Kevin Owens by pinfall @ 14:33

We head backstage RoH correspondent Alicia Atout who is hosting a live interview with Eddie Edwards via Zoom. Alicia asks Eddie how he and his family have been and Eddie confirms that everyone is home safe and healthy before getting down to business. Alicia asks Edwards about the recent issue between himself and Austin Aries which seemingly started over Aries’ jealousy of Edwards’ friendship with his girlfriend Scarlett Bordeaux. Edwards responds once again that he is a happily married man, and Aries has nothing to worry about, but agrees that this situation had begun to escalate before everyone was sent home. Edwards acknowledges an apparent challenge Aries made to him via Twitter last week and says that once they are able to, he accepts the match! Alicia starts to ask Edwards another questions, but Eddie’s phone begins to ring. Edwards pulls his phone out of his pocket and look shocked. He quickly tells Alicia that he needs to go before getting out and leaving the interview rather quickly. Alicia sits there looking confused for a moment as we fade out to our final commercial break of the evening.

Match #3: Singles Match
Kenny Omega vs. Edge
The crowd would be electric if there was one as Kenny Omega and Edge stare each other down from opposite ends of the ring. Both men slowly meet in the middle of the ring to shake hands and exchange some friendly jabs before locking up to begin the match as the bell rings. Omega starts things off by winning the tie up and back Edge in to the corner where he proceeds to work him over, focusing on the midsection of the Rated-R Superstar. Omega continues stay in control of this match early on, until Edge turns a headlock in to the backdrop, which allows him to get on top of Omega. Christian makes a comment that you can see by the expression on both superstar’s faces that they are both really enjoying this match at the moment. Edge pulls Omega up to his feet as both men stand smiling at each other. Edge then quickly slaps Omega which causes Kenny’s smile to turn in to rage. Omega charges at Edge and they two begin throwing hard shots at each other, having fired up the momentum of this match. Omega pushes Edge, who pushes him back as the words they exchange seem to be getting a little less friendly than before.
Before this match can continue any further, the music of The North begins to play from the arena speakers, and out walk Ethan Page and Josh Alexander who are making their RoH debut at a very inconvenient time. Edge and Omega take their eyes off each other as they are now focused on Page and Alexander as The North make their way down the ramp and in to the ring, standing in between both Edge and Kenny Omega. Both Edge and Omega can both clearly be heard asking The North what they’re doing interrupting their match, and Ethan Page simply replies “Making an Impact” before Page and Alexander attack both Edge and Kenny Omega, causing the referee to throw out this match as Edge brawls with Josh Alexander on one end of the ring while Kenny Omega is fighting Ethan Page on the other.
Winner: No Contest Due to Interference @ 6:18
The 4 superstars continue to brawl in the ring, until Edge gets the upper hand on Alexander, sending him crashing over the top rope to the floor. Omega soon follows suit with Page as Edge and Omega are now staring down The North who are both on the outside of the ring. Omega asks Edge “Do you want to do this?” to which Edge replies “It looks like we have to now.” before challenging The North to get back in the ring to face them properly. This dream match Main Event has now apparently become a tag team match as The North accept their opponents challenge.
Match #4: Tag Team Match
Kenny Omega & Edge vs. The North
This Main Event match ended up not being what was advertised, but it was definitely still a worthy match as The North are making a case for being the top RoH signing of 2020 in just their first appearance on RoH television. Page and Alexander do a great job hanging in with Edge and Omega and showcasing their skills as they manage to get quite a bit of their own offense in as well. Edge plays the role of babyface in peril for this match as some animosity is teased between Edge and Omega, causing Edge to not want to tag out of the match. Eventually, Omega does manage to get a hot tag and begins to clean house on The North, regaining control of the match for his team. The end of the match comes after Ethan Page rushes in to the ring to break out a One-Winged Angel attempt by Omega on Josh Alexander. Chaos breaks loose in the ring, which causes Edge to get involved in an attempt to help his partner. Edge lines up for a Spear on Page, but Page moves at the last moment, and Edge nails Kenny Omega with a Spear instead!
Page reacts quickly, sending Edge shoulder first in to the turnbuckle, and tossing him out of the ring before he and Josh Alexander nail Omega with a Northern Assault for a surprise victory in their debut match!
Winners: The North by pinfall @ 18:41
Page and Alexander head up the ramp celebrating their upset victory over Edge and Kenny Omega, as Edge slowly slides back in to the ring to check on his partner. Edge helps Omega up to his feet, but once he regains his surroundings, Omega pushes Edge back. Both men exchange some heated words over the finish of their tag match before Omega storms out of the ring, leaving a dejected Edge standing alone as we head back to the RoH studio to Mauro and Christian.
*****
Mauro welcomes us back, putting over the surprise victory The North had over the team of Edge and Kenny Omega, hinting that this will add fuel to the rivalry that has seemed to have started between Edge and Omega. Wasting no time at all, Mauro quickly transitions to getting back to business by introducing Olympic Gold Medalist and Hall of Famer Kurt Angle who is joining us live via Zoom.
Angle thanks Mauro and Christian for having him on the show tonight, before jokingly giving his buddy Christian a little bit of flak for his performance in his new colour commentary role. Laughing off the insults, Christian mentions to Angle that there is a reason he asked to be on the show tonight, and that Kurt has a major announcement to make. Angle confirms that he did indeed request some time during this episode of RoH Wrestling to discuss something that has been on his mind for quite some time. Angle discusses that at his age, his body has started to slowly break down and he knows his time in the ring won’t last forever. Over the last month, Angle says that being at home with his family has caused him to really think about his future and what condition he wants to be in when his youngest daughter is old enough to get married. Beginning to tear up, Kurt Angle announces that he has spoken with both RoH Owner Eric Bischoff as well as RoH GM Jeff Jarrett and Jarret wife Karen, who of course is Kurt’s ex-wife. After some lengthy discussions, Kurt Angle has decided it is best for him and his family if he retires effective immediately to begin to focus on life after wrestling as Kurt has always started to get used to being at home during this RoH hiatus.
Mauro and Christian both react in pure shock and awe at Angle’s announcement before Christian asks Angle to confirm once again for the fans watching at home that he is indeed retiring. Angle takes a moment to wipe a tear from his eye before stating “Yes, I can confirm that I, Kurt Angle am officially……”
Before Angle can finish his sentence, the feed is interrupted by RoH World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins! Rollins sarcastically apologizes for interrupting Kurt Angle’s emotional suckfest, but reminds Angle that there is unfinished business between the two of them that Seth wants settled before Kurt Angle can take his ball and go home. Rollins tells Angle that last he checked, Kurt Angle and Edge are still owed a RoH World Heavyweight Championship match against Rollins, and Angle was to be the next person in line. Rollins tells Angle that he’s a company man, and announces that he’s agreed to allow RoH to film future episodes of RoH Wrestling live at his personal gym Black & Brave Wrestling in Chicago, on 1 condition. Rollins explains that the condition was that the very first RoH match held at that facility needs to be Seth Rollins vs. Kurt Angle for the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship! Rollins promises no tricks, no Age of the Fall members allowed in the building. Rollins says just Angle, himself and an RoH referee so Rollins can not only prove that he can beat Kurt Angle one-on-one, but he gets to be the one to finally end the career of Kurt Angle. Rollins picks up the RoH World Heavyweight Championship and throws it over his shoulder before officially challenging Angle to the match next week. There is a pause from Angle, who takes a moment before accepting Seth’s challenge and vowing to walk out of Rollins’ own gym as the new RoH World Heavyweight Championship. “Oh it’s True! It’s DAMN True!”
