CCW News and Notes
Kaufmania to be two nights?
A final card for Kaufmania is to be announced at the end of the next episode of Superstar Saturday. Rumor currently is that the show will be over two nights, March 13 and 14, at the Super Dome in New Orleans, Louisiana. In the past, the promotion has used Superstar Saturday special editions for extra matches outside the pay per view. However, with Kaufmania to be the ‘Wrestlemania’ style event for CCW, it was thought to go beyond that Special Edition branding for a special two night event under the same name. It’s believed that night one will have the Southeastern Heavyweight Title match between Brian Cage and Randy Savage as the main event and night two will finish with the MUW Men’s Title match between Samoa Joe and CM Punk. To prepare for the show, it’s being considered for Superstar Saturday on March 6 and Wednesday Warfare on March 10 to be recap shows.
Who is the masked accomplice?
Jake “The Snake” Roberts’ Masked Accomplice is known to backstage personnel. It’s believed his identity will be revealed at Kaufmania, no matter the match ending of Roberts and the Accomplice versus Austin Idol and Tommy Rich. Currently, Adrian Street is playing the masked man on the house show circuit. However, the real intended Accomplice has been playing the role on television. Rumors are that Roberts and the Masked Accomplice will remain a tag team following Kaufmania.
Brand split on the horizon?
No matter how the match comes out between Andy Kaufman and ODB for control of Continental Championship Wrestling, it’s believed the end result will be a brand split. There’s a lot of buzz backstage around April 1 as being the date when a split would become official. Some talent will be cut and others added. There are talent trade talks between CCW and at least two other MUW promotions. Rumors backstage includes one brand to have a cruiserweight division and one a women’s division to help them being distinctive from each other. It’s been noted that a lot of talk about Memphis has occurred on programming recently involving talent known for working that area, such as Randy Savage, Jerry Lawler and Eddie Gilbert.

Sorry, guys, but CWF and CWH are going out of business. I'm just not feeling it right now; writing Winterslam felt like a chore, and I've never been less interested in current day wrestling than right now. If you want to put all of my guys into free agency immediately, have at it - or if you want to leave them on the shelf for a little while, you can do that, too. Whatever you decide.
All the best, 5H

CCW News and Notes
Brand Split Official
Continental Championship Wrestling has officially announced its rumored brand split. The Mid-America Division will be based out of Memphis, Tennessee, and be run by Jerry Lawler and Bruce Prichard. The Gulf Coast Division will be based in Dothan, Alabama, and be run by Andy Kaufman and Col. Robert Fuller.
The Mid-America Division will have the Southeastern Heavyweight and Southeastern Tag Team titles, renamed the Mid-America Heavyweight and Mid-America Tag Team Titles. It will also have a new women’s division and a Mid-America Women’s Title. The Gulf Coast Division will have the Gulf Coast Heavyweight and Gulf Coast Tag Team Titles and the new Gulf Coast Cruiserweight Title for the cruiserweight division. The cruiserweight division weight limit is 225 pounds.
Mid-America will run shows in the area of Memphis, Arkansas, Southeast Missouri, Western Kentucky and Evansville, Indiana. The Gulf Coast Division will run shows in the area of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Houston, Texas.
The divisions will come together for three super shows a year: Kaufmania in March, Glorious Grapple in August and Terrific Tussle in December. The divisions will run their own individual pay-per-views as they arise, probably on an alternating month to month basis. Mid-America will run Invasion with the name of the city they’re in and Gulf Coast will run In Your House with the name of the city they’re in. Mid-America will do a studio show for Superstar Saturday weekly. Gulf Coast will do a touring arena show for the weekly Wednesday Warfare.
The next edition of Superstar Saturday will be a join show to setup the brand split and announce how talent will be divided. Several stars are leaving CCW and several more are coming in. Some storylines and characters will carryover and this is being considered a ‘soft reset.’
Bobby Heenan arrives in CCW
The MUW Universe was stunned by the sudden closure of Championship Wrestling from Florida and they’re new extension, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. Rumors have it that Bobby Heenan overextended himself with loans to open the Hollywood territory and when debtors called in their markers early, he just couldn’t pay and was forced to declare bankruptcy. It’s known Heenan called his old friend Gorilla Monsoon, an announcer for CCW, looking for work. It’s believed Heenan will be made the manager of the newly formed original Four Horsemen. However, there is talk of moving Steve Austin and the Midnight Express away from Tammy Lynn Sytch and them needing a new manager as well.
CM Punk had major heat back stage
There was apparently a lot of truth in the angle that moved CM Punk from CCW to AEW. Punk had apparently only signed a limited time contract with Continental with the company agreeing to it, knowing Punk vs. Joe would be a major draw for Kaufmania. Punk did not get along with Andy Kaufman, not getting his sense humor, and didn’t give any credence to Ron Fuller, knowing he was on his way out. Punk was also upset about plans to use him in the cruiserweight division if he stuck around, feeling it was beneath him. Punk feels AEW is a ‘major league promotion’ and one that will use him properly.

CCW reports Robert Gibson of the Midnight Express blew out his knee in the tag team battle royal at Kaufmania. He will be out 6 to 8 months. His tag partner, Ricky Morton, is expected to work in the starting cruiserweight division during that time period.

WWE NEWS & NOTES (March 28 Edition) 1. We have breaking news to report. It has been confirmed that Wrestlemania will now be a 2-night event, spanning Saturday, April 3, and Sunday, April 4. With a roster bursting at the seams with talent, and in order to please the talent and the fans, it was decided to split the card in two to avoid disappointed fans with a series of 5-minute matches and to avoid having a 1-day event that would go 6-7 hours. While this change may not seem necessary when looking at the 7-match card, one has to bear in mind that there are more matches to be announced tomorrow on RAW. One sources has told me that an additional 4-5 matches will be announced tomorrow. 2. The last WWE event before Wrestlemania weekend, NXT notwithstanding, is Monday Night RAW, eminating from Prudential Center in Newark, NJ tomorrow night. It will be a special 3-hour episode that promises to put build excitement and put the finishing touches on the card for Wrestlemania. The list of matches already announced for Monday Night RAW is outstanding in its own right. The card will feature three tag team matches including Asuka and Bianca Belair versus Beth Phoenix and Rhea Ripley, The Brothers of Destruction versus The Wyatt Family, and Samoa Joe and a partner of his choice versus Triple H and a partner of his choice. Also, in singles action, we will have both WWE Intercontinental Championship tournament seminfinal bouts, with Ricky Steamboart taking on Chris Jericho, and Daniel Bryan going up against Bret "The Hitman" Hart. The winners of both matches will go head-to-head for the title at Wrestlemania. 3. A few changes have been made to the WWE schedule in the week leading up to Wrestlemania. These changes were made because of the decision to turn Wrestlemania into a two-night event. Here is the latest updated schedule for upcoming WWE and NXT events: Mar. 29 - RAW from Prudential Center in Newark, NJ Mar. 31 - NXT from Full Sail Live in Orlando, FL Apr. 02 – NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY Apr. 03 - WRESTLEMANIA from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ Apr. 04 - WRESTLEMANIA from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ Apr. 05 - RAW from Madison Square Garden in New York, NY Apr. 09 - SMACKDOWN from Vidéotron Centre in Québec City, QC 4. WWE has been holding a lot of tournaments this month. Here are the newly published tournament brackets. Women's Championship Tournament Bracket Intercontinental Championship Tournament Bracket Tag Team Championships Tournament Bracket

Following "PWX 3" in Albuquerque on Saturday, PWX Executive Producer Eric Bischoff announced in at a press conference that Kurt Angle will be fined $10,000 for publicly criticizing the officiating of his main event match with Chris Benoit. Angle harshly criticized senior official Earl Hebner and threatened to have his license revoked after questioning his officiating multiple times during the bout.
Angle took to social media Sunday morning to address the controversy and his fine. Angle says he will not be paying a dime, he stands behind what he said, and he has contacted his lawyer Stephen P. New of West Virginia to send an appeal to the New Mexico Athletic Commission to have this result officially overturned to a No Contest. He says that Benoit used an illegal hold, as the Crossface should have been broken when he touched the rope. He claims Earl Hebner showed bias and negligence in letting Benoit continue to attack him by opting to not enforce the previously, contractually agreed upon rules of the contest.
More on this story as it develops.
