It's the summertime, and a busy time - so here is this week's abbreviated version of Wednesday Night Warriors!
This week’s episode is live, and in living color, from the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah!
In the opening match, AWA TVX champion A.J. Styles defeated Mistico in a dynamic, high-flying contest. After the two shook hands after the bout, Styles declared that he wanted to make the TVX division the most competitive, most discussed, and most exciting division in the MUW network.
Lance Russell interviewed Ethan Carter III, who said that despite the loss of Adam Cole, Vickie Guerrero was feeling better than ever, and was on the hunt for more talent.
The British Bulldogs defeated the World’s Greatest Tag-Team in a tense battle that Dynamite won for his squad via a flying headbutt on Benjamin. After the match, the Bulldogs left quickly, avoiding Lance Russell’s interview attempt. Meanwhile, Haas and Benjamin argued in the ring, briefly shoving each other before the confrontation was broken up by Mike Rotunda. He defused the situation, and the three left together.
After “highlights” of the HoRsemen’s beatdown of Rick Martel were shown from the previous week, the Canadian entered the ring and made an open challenge. What he got… was Umaga! The Samoan bulldozer bounded the ramp toward the brave Martel, who put up a tough fight. Unfortunately, having no scouting report on Umaga, he lost after ten furious minutes of action.
A pre-taped interview was shown next, with Lance Russell and Paul Orndorff. “Mr. Wonderful” warned Diamond Dallas Page that he was next on his hit list, and after he was finished with him, he was strapping some gold around his waist.
Harlem Heat and Michael Elgin defeated the Young Bucks and their bodyguard, Brodus Clay, when Elgin powerslammed big Clay. It was a classic speed vs. power battle, and both teams came out looking very good. Post-match, Booker T shouted out that that was just a tune-up before their AWA Tag-Team championship match next week.
Brian Pillman defeated James Gibson with a top-rope dropkick in another TVX division battle. Pillman received a few boos throughout the match, but he didn’t seem to notice. After the pin, Russell again tried to get an interview from the “Loose Cannon” to explain his actions from last week, but all he said was, “Next week!”
Another pre-taped interview was shown, with Josh Mathews and Daniel Bryan. The former AWA champ was looking forward to his rematch with Big Van Vader in September, but he wasn’t looking too far ahead - specifically, his sights were set on John Cena at WWE’s Summerslam II, in order to get a shot at the MUW title as well.
In the main event, AWA Heavyweight champion Big Van Vader defeated Verne Gagne in a much more closely-contested battle than one might expect. Gagne dominated small stretches of the contest, but Vader’s sheer mass and ferocity were enough to stop any burst of momentum. It was a 15-minute war that ended with a powerbomb. As the cameras started to darken, Vader screamed at Bryan, boasting that he would win the championship contest at the “Million Dollar Match” PPV.
