This week’s show started with Antonio Cueto standing in the ring beside the Gift of the Gods title belt, which had been mounted to a wooden stand affixed to a tripod. Antonio announced that all the Ancient Aztec Medallions had been handed out and that it was time to make official who will compete in the match for the Gift of the Gods at Ultimate Lucha Tres. (Essentially, placing the Medallions in the belt is an act that is akin to signing a contract to participate in the match.) Matt Striker and Vampiro questioned this as they have only seen six matches for Ancient Aztec Medallions. Before bringing the luchadores out, Antonio made one more announcement: that at Ultimate Lucha Tres, the Gift of the Gods will be awarded in a Ladder Match!
One at a time, Andrade Cien Almas, Johnny Mundo, Will Osprey, Mike Awesome, Dr. Wagner Jr., and Mustafa Ali entered the ring to place their Ancient Aztec Medallions into the Gift of the Gods title belt. Each one of them left the ring to give the next holder of a Medallion their turn to place their Medallion into the title belt. After the first six Ancient Aztec Medallions had been placed in the belt, the seventh and final holder of a Medallion came to the ring. It was the Ultimate Warrior.
When he entered the ring, he ripped the microphone out of Antonio Cueto’s hand and said that he didn’t want this stupid Medallion. Then, he threw it at Antonio’s chest. The impact made Antonio stumble back a step. Antonio didn’t understand what was going on and said as much. He wondered why he would possibly give up an opportunity to win the Gift of the Gods. Ultimate Warrior responded that he didn’t do all of Antonio’s dirty work to be rewarded with a second rate prize. He did it to be rewarded with the Ultimate Prize – the Gauntlet of the Gods – and it was a slap in the face to see him give it to an inferior specimen such as his son Matanza.
Antonio wondered why he would want that, saying that it wasn’t anything special. Ultimate Warrior told him that was bullshit and said that he wants the Gauntlet now or else. Antonio asked what else meant and Ultimate Warrior grabbed him around the neck and started to strangle him. He told Antonio to tell his son to bring him the Gauntlet right now or else Antonio will breathe his final breath right here, right now.
Matanza Cueto ran into the ring, wearing the Gauntlet of the Gods on his right hand. He was prepared to strike, but Ultimate Warrior turned 90-degrees to face him and warned him that if he took another step closer, his father would die. Antonio cried out for mercy. Ultimate Warrior told him that he would grant him mercy if Matanza removed the Gauntlet and threw it over to him. After some hesitation, Matanza tossed it at the Ultimate Warrior’s feet. He released Antonio, who fell to the mat like a ton of bricks, and then bent over to pick up the Gauntlet. However, Matanza attacked and they engaged in a wicked brawl.
They fought throughout the Temple until they were trading haymakers while standing above Antonio Cueto’s office. Matanza missed with one and Ultimate Warrior knocked him down and had him in position to be thrown all the way down to the floor. Shouting over the house mic, Antonio implored the Ultimate Warrior to stop, saying that he would give him what he wanted … if he could beat Matanza in an Anything Goes Match at Ultima Lucha Tres! He asked Ultimate Warrior not to throw his son off the roof and asked if they had a deal. Ultimate Warrior nodded in agreement and then drove a knee into Matanza’s mid-section before letting him go and walking away.

LUCHA UNDERGROUND TRIOS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
SUPER FRIENDS VS. WORLDWIDE UNDERGROUND
Aero Star, Fénix & Drago vs. Johnny Mundo, Taya Valkyrie & PJ Black
Super Friends defeated Worldwide Underground by pinfall to retain the Lucha Underground Trios Championships. The challengers gave the champions the biggest challenge to their title reign all season as they kept pace with the Super Friends move for move, and at times look totally dominant. However, the Super Friends would not be champions for as long as they have if they were not resilient. Every time they were down, they came back. The Worldwide Underground almost ended their title reign 16-minutes into the contest when Johnny Mundo rolled away from an imploding 450-degree splash attempt by Aero Star, which gave Taya the opening to give him a curb stomp. Mundo made the cover but Drago broke it up by a hair as he ran into the ring and dove over to land a double axehandle smash to Mundo’s back. The match continued for another minute in which time Black was tagged into the match and missed a phenomal forearm attempt on Fénix, who then connected with a trifecta of superkicks. Drago then back him a running blockbuster DDT and pinned him for the win.
After the match, Rey Mysterio Jr. came out to the ring to congratulate the Super Friends on their victory and for their long title reign. He noted that the Super Friends still didn’t have a challenger for Ultima Lucha Tres and said that what the Super Friends needed was a super challenge, so he proposed they defend the Trios Championships against his team of Super Legends. Then, he revealed Ultimo Dragon and Eddie Guerrero as his teammates for this contest. The valiant trio of fighting champions agreed without hesitation. They said it would be an honour to defend their titles against this trio of legendary luchadores and vowed to defeat them in a friendly contest. The agreement was settled with handshakes between all the competitors. Now, at Ultima Lucha Tres, it will the Super Friends versus the Super Legends for the Trios Championships!

Antonio Cueto assembled a large group of luchadores to compete in a battle royal for the only unclaimed Ancient Aztec Medallion. Every luchador in this match was someone who had not yet found a spot in any match on Ultima Lucha Tres. This battle royal would serve to be their last opportunity. But, all great opportunities in Lucha Underground come with a twist or surprise. The Cueto family has a knack for them. In this case, Antonio announced that there was one brand new luchador joining this battle royal. This luchador is the most world-renowned luchador of the 21st century and when you have an opportunity to have such a luchador pass through the doors of your Temple of lucha libre, you welcome them with open arms. So, without further ado, Antonio Cueto introduces everyone to:
JOHN CENA
BATTLE ROYAL FOR ONE OF THE SEVEN ANCIENT AZTEC MEDALLIONS
Cheeseburger, Ivelisse Vélez, Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis, Super Crazy, Mercedes Martinez, The Godfather, Dragon Rojo, Son of Havoc, Mascarita Sagrada, El Hijo del Fantasma, and PJ Black (in his second match of the night) all competed in this match and were eliminated in the first 10-minutes, leaving Dragon Lee, Awesome Kong, Shayna Baszler, and John Cena as the final four.
At this point, Dragon Lee was hoisted into the air for the Attitude Adjustment, but he flipped through and landed on his feet. Then, he ran to the ropes and returned to give John Cena a tilt-a-whirl headscissors takedown. When Lee got back to his feet, Awesome Kong dropped him with a stiff lariat, then picked him up and threw him over the top rope, but Lee hung on. Kong tried to clothesline Baszler over the top rope, but she clung to the ropes and stayed on the ring apron. When Kong turned around, she was felled by a series of jumping shoulder tackles and a slam into the mat, then, he gave her the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Then, he picked her up and threw her over the top rope. As soon as he was done with Awesome Kong, Cena turned around and was struck with a running knee strike that appeared to knock him out on his feet. Baszler went to throw him over the top rope, but Cena was too difficult to throw over as he clung to the ropes. As Baszler was doing everything in her power to try to eliminate Cena, Lee came over to help. But then, Kong came up from behind and lifted Baszler over top of Cena and out to the floor to eliminate her. As it turned out, Lee landed on the ring apron. Kong fought with Lee, trying to eliminate him, but he wouldn’t fall down to the floor. Cena gave Kong a running one-handed bulldog and then lifted her onto his shoulders and executed the Attitude Adjustment! He picked up Kong and tossed her over the top rope. Lee tried to get Cena over the top rope with a running frankensteiner, but Cena managed to hold onto the top rope as he went over, thus avoiding elimination. They traded a few more blows until Cena caught Lee going for a diving crossbody and gave him an emerald flowsion and then picked him up to finish him off with the Attitude Adjustment. He then threw him over the top rope to win the battle royal.
Meanwhile, outside the ring, it was noted that Baszler acted every bit the poor sport by attacking Awesome Kong with a steel chair as she walked towards the exit. After hitting her multiple times, she put Kong in a rear naked choke, all the while she talked trash towards her and charged that she cheated to eliminate her from the match. However, none of that changed the fact that she was eliminated by the eventual winner, John Cena, who now joins Andrade Cien Almas, Mike Awesome, Mustafa Ali, Dr. Wagner Jr., Johnny Mundo, and Will Ospreay in the Gift of the Gods match at Ultima Lucha Tres!
WINNER : JOHN CENA

Awesome Kong storms into Antonio Cueto’s office, nearly breaking the hinges off the door in the process. She tells Cueto he has any space left on the card for Ultimate Lucha Tres, she wants a match with Shayna Baszler because “that bitch needs to get hers.” Then she says that if there isn’t any space left on the card, “make some!” Cueto loves her fiery passion and tells her that her wish is granted.

MASH-UP WRESTLING MEN’S WORLD CHAMP
“THE PHENOMENAL” AJ STYLES
The surprises keep on coming as MUW Men’s World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles appears in the Temple. The Believers give him a standing ovation as he enters the ring. Styles, who is fresh off his victory over Seth Rollins for the title, cuts a promo in which he says that he couldn’t be more proud to be the number one luchador in the MUW universe, that he intends to be a fighting champion who will defend his title everywhere in the world, that he plans on being the champion for a very long time, and that he’s excited to be in the Temple to defend this championship against a familiar foe.
HIS CHALLENGER AT ULTIMA LUCHA TRES
“THE SAMOAN SUBMISSION MACHINE” SAMOA JOE
That familiar foe appears, entering through the floor entrance to the Temple. Samoa Joe welcomes Styles to the Temple and tells him that he had better enjoy his days as the number one luchador in the world because they won’t last long. Joe says he was looking forward to dethroning the “King Slayer” Seth Rollins, but when Styles won the championship, it didn’t both him because it’ll be that much easier to take the prize that he has thus far never had a chance to win. Joe and Styles go back a long time, they’ve faced each other many of times, and even though Styles may be the champion, he’s only second best in the world. The one guy who can defeat him is standing right in front of him, and he’s going to enjoy winning the champion against his oldest rival in the game.
LUCHA UNDERGROUND CHAMPION
“THE MACHO KING” RANDY SAVAGE
The Macho King feels it is necessary to interject. For you see, it is he who holds the Lucha Underground Championship, and it is he who defeated Samoa Joe for the Lucha Underground Championship, so the he sees it is that he’s the true cream of the crop of lucha libre. Therefore, if Samoa Joe says he’s better than AJ Styles, that must make the Macho King the best champion in all of lucha libre, which also means that it is the Macho King who should be taking the MUW Men’s World Championship away from Styles at Ultima Lucha Tres.
HIS CHALLENGER AT ULTIMA LUCHA TRES
PRINCE PUMA
Prince Puma appears to tell the “Macho King” that he can’t duck out on their title match at Ultima Lucha Tres. He says that he earned the Gift of the Gods and turned it in for an opportunity to win the Lucha Underground Championship on the biggest night of the lucha libre calendar. He goes on to say that he won’t have that taken away from him, no matter how much the “Macho King” wants it.
OWNER & OPERATOR OF LUCHA UNDERGROUND
ANTONIO CUETO
Antonio Cueto exits from his office and says that it is a welcome surprise to have AJ Styles in the Temple. Furthermore, he notes that there is no reason to cut this evening short. There have only been two matches tonight, and they need a third one. With that in mind, he wants to make one last epic main event before Ultima Lucha Tres. It is going to be a tag team match where champion and challenger will compete against champion and challenger. And to give them an incentive to compete and to make things interesting, if the team of the Macho King and Prince Puma wins, whoever scores the pinfall or submission will take Samoa Joe’s place in the Mash-Up Wrestling Men’s World Championship Title Match at Ultima Lucha Tres. But if the team of AJ Styles and Samoa Joe wins, and one of them pins or submits the Macho King, he will become the new Lucha Underground Champion!

SPECIAL MAIN EVENT TAG TEAM MATCH
AJ Styles & Samoa Joe vs. “Macho King” Randy Savage & Prince Puma
SPECIAL MAIN EVENT TAG TEAM MATCH
AJ Styles & Samoa Joe vs. “Macho King” Randy Savage & Prince Puma
There was a lot on the line in this match. The stakes were high and the incentive to stab one’s partner in the back was as high or higher than the incentive to work together to protect each luchador’s position going into Ultima Lucha Tres.
Styles and Joe familiarity with one another made working as a team almost second nature to them. It was as if they had been teaming for years. They maintained control for a long stretch and performed several double-team maneuvers on Prince Puma. To his credit, he kept kicking out of pinfall attempts, and when the opportunity to sunset flip his way out of a running powerbomb attempt by Styles came, he took it. Moments later, he struck Styles with his own signature Pele kick and then made the hot tag. Savage looked every bit the champion in taking on both his opponents. He dropped them both with clotheslines, running double axehandle smashes, dropkicks, and a pair of hairpull hangmen.
A miscue from Styles and Joe, trying to stop Savage’s momentum, resulted in Joe ending up going over the top rope and Styles ending up on the receiving end of Savage’s diving elbow drop. The pinfall was broken up by Savage’s own teammate, who was keen to get two title shots at Ultima Lucha Tres. This led to Savage and Puma trading blows for a while. Eventually, Styles and Joe broke it up with Joe taking Puma out to the floor and hitting him with a topé suicida. Styles would find the opportunity to give the Macho King a Phenomenal Forearm for a close 2-count. Not long after, he executed the Styles Clash and pinned Savage. His own teammate, Samoa Joe, broke up the pin, thus preventing the Mash-Up Wrestling Men’s World Champion from becoming the Lucha Underground Champion.
Consequently, Styles and Joe ended up fighting until an enzuigiri kick from Joe knocked Styles off his feet and out to the floor. Prince Puma would come into the ring and have a back-and-forth battle with Joe. As they fought each other, Savage left the ring and returned with the ring bell, with which he intended to smash Joe in the back of the head, but Joe moved to dodge a springboard Superman punch from Puma. When Joe moved, Puma ended up flying right into Savage’s swing, taking the knockout blow from the bell to his head. Joe charged at Savage and took him out of the ring with a clothesline and then followed it up with a topé suicida. With them both out of the ring, Styles found the opening to land a springboard 450-degree splash on Prince Puma and pin him for the win.
As a result, AJ Styles & Samoa Joe defeated “Macho King” Randy Savage & Prince Puma by pinfall in this special main event tag team match. The result of Styles pinning Puma meant that nothing would change for Ultima Lucha Tres. Samoa Joe will still challenge AJ Styles for the Mash-Up Wrestling Men’s World Championship, and Prince Puma will still challenge “Macho King” Randy Savage for the Lucha Underground Championship.
Before the show went off the air, immediately after AJ Styles and Samoa Joe had their hands simultaneously raised by the referee, Joe grabbed Styles from behind and locked him in a Coquina Clutch. After putting him to sleep, Joe relinquished the hold, picked up Styles’ championship title belt and lifted it high in the air in the direction of the stationary camera, while shouting out “You’re looking at the next World Champion! At Ultima Lucha Tres, this belt will be mine!”
