"SIN CITY SHOWDOWN"
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
Kalisto vs. Oney Lorcan vs. Paul London vs. Tyler Breeze
This was a fun opener for the Las Vegas crowd. It didn't overstay it's welcome, but made sure to get everybody a little rub, as we saw the strong suits of everyone involved. Lorcan was showing off his unhinged, hard hitting offense; Kalisto would use his lucha libre takedowns and dives to woo the crowd; Paul London was finding creative ways to both evade and attack; and Tyler Breeze would show his charisma and work the crowd when he was able to take control of the action. In the end, Breeze would fall to a familiar foe, as Kalisto would deliver a DragonRana to take him down and roll him up for the three count in thrilling fashion.
Winner by Pinfall: Kalisto
Britt Baker vs. Dakota Kai
Kai called out Baker back in Seattle after seeing her success, and figured beating her might lead her back to a path to a championship bout. Kai was very energetic and used her high impact striking to keep Baker reeling. Baker would show her great psychology throughout, grounding and taunting both Kai and the fans when she could. Baker would manage to pick up the win here, reversing a TTYL into a School Girl roll-up with the tights pulled to steal the win. Kai looked strong here, but it's clear Baker is on an upward trajectory and her win by any means necessary attitude could take her where she wants to go.
Winner by Pinfall: Britt Baker
Chris Hero vs. Shane Strickland
These two are very creative and super versatile, so this was an interesting match up for sure. Hero would try to use his size and technical prowess to keep "Swerve" down early, but that didn't seem to work. Hero would resort to the heavy hitting later in the match, and it seemed to be going his way... until it wasn't. Strickland would unleash some pretty good striking of his own, and his speed advantage seemed to be the difference maker. Strickland would manage to dodge a Rolling Elbow to the back of the head late, catching Hero with a high kick to the face, followed by a Springboard variation of a Canadian Destroyer off the middle rope to take Hero down and keep him down for the three count! Strickland's success continues here, and the fans were here for it tonight, giving him a great ovation.
Winner by Pinfall: Shane Strickland
Nikki Cross vs. Santana Garrett vs. Xia Brookside
Nikki Cross was making her debut here, and she definitely had the character and mystique edge over her opponents tonight. Garrett has the look and ability in the ring to get the fans behind her, but she hasn't been able to get any measure of success yet here in PPW. Tonight wasn't her night, either. Brookside shows flashes of promise, but she is still finding her footing, and it was clear she was out matched by the intensity and unorthodox nature of Cross. Garrett would send Brookside out of the ring with a Superkick near the end of the contest, leading Cross to catch her right after with a Running Headbutt to the midsection, followed by The Purge to get the pinfall.
Winner by Pinfall: Nikki Cross
Austin Aries & Eddie Edwards vs. Homicide & Low Ki
Edwards is still very salty about the last time he met this team, which saw Homicide use a pair of brass knuckles to take him out. This time, Edwards was very aggressive and took Homicide out of the ring early and unloaded on him. Edwards and Homicide would fight throughout the crowd in this short bout, leaving Aries and Low Ki to figure things out on the inside most of the match. Ki and Aries would have some back and forth exchanges, with Aries showing his wrestling superiority, but Ki is vicious and intense, and would manage to get the upper hand with a Tidal Crush in the corner. Ki would try to end things by locking Aries in a Dragon Clutch, but Edwards would catch him with the Boston Knee Party to the back of the head to break up the hold! Homicide would make it back into the ring and try for a Lariat, but Edwards would catch him with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count! Homicide would roll out of the ring and Ki is back in, and delivers a Running Front Dropkick to Edwards, sending him out of the ring! Aries is back up, though, and catches Ki with a Running Dropkick to send him flying into the corner. Aries follows up with a Brainbuster, and it's enough to keep Ki down for the three count!
Winners by Pinfall: Austin Aries & Eddie Edwards
Homicide takes a chair and whacks Edwards in the back with it as he is celebrating the win, and Homicide and Ki proceed to beat down Edwards and Aries until officials break things up.
Ember Moon vs. Toni Storm
These two had a great back and forth in this match, and the crowd was really split. They went hard on the inside and the outside of the ring, both ladies hitting dives and gaining near falls, leaving these fans wondering who would come out on top. Storm would try to deliver a Tiger Driver to Moon near the end, but Moon would reverse it into a Hurricanrana, rolling Storm up and getting the flash three count!
Winner by Pinfall: Ember Moon
These two ladies shook hands afterwards, with Storm pulling in Moon afterwards and saying they will meet again. Moon nods in agreement before Storm raises her hand in victory.
Alex Shelley vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
This was a sleeper best match of the show, as these two spent 12 solid minutes trading holds and working over appendages in what was a clinic of technical wrestling. Casual fans had not really seen anything quite like the catch-as-catch-can match we saw here, reminiscent of the old World of Sports stuff in Europe, and it was just fantastic. Sabre would show his heel side in subtle ways, sending aggressive stomps to the side of Shelley's head and raking him at different times, doing whatever he could to try to get an advantage. The fans were solidly behind the debuting Shelley here, who would try to roll up and hold down Sabre while trying to battle through the relentless attack on his arm. Sabre would send a barrage of attacks to arm late, but when he tried to deliver a Penalty Kick out of frustration, Shelley caught it and tied him up in a roll-up, attempting to get the win, but Sabre would reverse and manage to lock on a Kimura very tightly! Shelley had no choice but to tap out!
Winner by Submission: Zack Sabre Jr.
After the match, Shelley humbly tried to get a handshake from Sabre, despite his antics during the match. Sabre would consider before slapping Shelley across the face! Sabre turned his back, grinning, but Shelley would kick Sabre in the back of the head before delivering the ShellShock to roar of the crowd! Shelley kind of shrugs, gripping his arm and leaving Sabre in the middle of the ring.
Cheerleader Melissa & Sara Del Rey vs. Manami Toyota & Rhea Ripley
Two big debuts were featured in this match, as Melissa and Toyota came in to pretty good fanfare. These four women put on a very good 10 minute showing for this crowd, with the big and mean Melissa and SDR really putting a beating on Joshi hero Toyota early on. Toyota would make the hot tag to Ripley, would came in like a house of fire and tore into her opponents with power and urgency, taking them out of the ring. Toyota and Ripley would hit stereo dives from the top to get the fans going! Back in the ring, Ripley would hit the Riptide on Del Rey, only to have Melissa break it up. Toyota would fly in and take Melissa out with a Missile Dropkick! She would head back up and take down Del Rey with a Missile Dropkick! Toyota would then get on the middle turnbuckle as Ripley got Del Rey up into the Electric Chair position, and then Toyota jumped off and hit a Rocker Dropper on SDR as Ripley was bringing her down with an Electric Chair Drop! Ripley would make the cover as Toyota flew through the ropes onto Melissa, and they got the pinfall victory!
Winners by Pinfall: Manami Toyota & Rhea Ripley
After the match, Del Rey would get on the mic on the outside and challenge Manami Toyota one-on-one if she has the guts, and Manami Toyota responded with a resounding, "Hell yes!" Toyota was trying to goad Del Rey into bringing it on right now, but Del Rey, after looking like she might hit the ring, heelishly backed off and said, "I'll see you later!"
Bandido & Jushin Liger vs. Drew Gulak & Pete Dunne
What a great tag team match we had here! The ground and pound of Gulak and Dunne would take it's toll on Bandido early, who took the ring first. Bandido would desperately try to get to Liger, but they just kept working him hard, and even sent him out of the ring. Liger would get involved on the outside, delivering a Dropkick off of the apron and sending Dunne out into the crowd, but once Gulak got Bandido back in the ring, Liger was relegated to the corner by the ref once more. Bandido would manage to deliver his absolutely jaw dropping 24 Plex on Gulak off of a reversal and finally managed to roll and get the tag to Liger! Liger would deliver a series of palm strikes and rolling kicks to Gulak and Dunne, before diving and taking out both men on the outside! Back in the ring, Dunne would manage to stun Liger with a Superkick, followed by an X-Plex for a two count. Liger would tag back out to Bandido, who would fly in and take down Dunne with a Headscissors, and catch Gulak running at him with a Standing Spanish Fly! Bandido would run at Dunne against the ropes, but Dunne would pull the ropes down and proceed to hit Bandido with a European Uppercut to send him flying to the outside! Gulak would run off the apron and Cannonball onto Bandido on the outside. Liger and Dunne are left in the ring. Liger takes Dunne over with a Hurricanrana on a reversal for a two count. Dunne fires back with an Enzuigiri and attempts to go for the Bitter End, but Liger reverses it and pulls Dunne over into a Tombstone Piledriver for another two count! Liger lifts up Dunne and tries for a Liger Bomb, but Dunne reverses with a Sunset Flip, rolling through and grabbing Liger by the wrist and then just stomping the shit out of his face multiple times! Dunne pulls Liger up and delivers a Short Arm Lariat, attempting the pinfall after, but he only gets a two count! Dunne picks up Liger and delivers repeated knee strikes to his head before pulling him in and delivering the Bitter End! The fans are deflated here, thinking Dunne has their hero beat, but Bandido saves the day! Bandido springboards in with a 450 Splash, breaking up the pinfall! Dunne picks him up... oh, what a disgrace, Dunne delivers a Liger's own move, The Liger Bomb, as Gulak assists him in driving Liger down! Gulak stops Bandido from reentering the ring as Liger is held down for the three count!
Winners by Pinfall: Drew Gulak & Pete Dunne
The fans are giving a mostly negative reaction as Gulak and Dunne gloat! Liger recovers and challenges Dunne to a one-on-one contest at the next show, and Dunne accepts but flips him off, leading Liger to smack the taste out of his mouth a palm strike, sending him fleeing the ring! Gulak lands a couple of overhand blows to Liger, but is kicked out of the ring by Bandido! Gulak and Dunne retreat as Liger and Bandido stand tall and look forward to fighting another day.
International Women's Title
Bea Priestley vs. Mayu Iwatani (c) vs. Mia Yim
Mayu Iwatani has somehow overcome all odds to retain her championship thus far, but this was her biggest test to date. Mia Yim had come close to ending her reign in the past, but couldn't get it done, and you could see the jitters in the "H.B.I.C" to start the match as she didn't want to miss the opportunity again. Bea Priestley was the clear heel in this contest, showing no respect to her opponents, the championship, or the fans, and all she wanted to do was hurt people and glorify herself. This match was brutal. There were a lot of headdrops, and these women looked like they were trying to knock out each other's teeth and cripple one another all match. There was a very hard to watch spot at one point as Mayu Iwatani delivered a Dragon Suplex off the apron onto an unfolded steel chair on the outside to Bea Priestley, leaving people gasping and chanting "HOLY SHIT!" and medical staff had to come check on Priestley. Yim would go on her attack and looked to capitalize on the damage done to both women, taking Mayu into the ringside and slamming her to the mat with a Fisherman's Buster for a two count. Priestley would shove away the medical staff as they tried to get her to stop, showing her toughness. Yim felt she had the match won, delivering a fatal looking blow with a Package Piledriver to Iwatani, but Priestley would play spoiler, flying off the top rope with a Double Stomp to Yim's spine, breaking up the pin attempt! Priestley would follow up with a Facewash to Yim who was leaning against the ropes, sending her tumbling to the floor. Priestley would turn, only to get blasted with a Running Single High Knee from Iwatani, flipping her inside out! Iwatani would grab Priestley and lift her up, screaming as she pulled her over for a Dragon Suplex! Iwatani did not have the strength left in her to hold onto the bridge, but instead draped her arm over Priestley's lifeless body, but it was enough. Iwatani gets the three count and somehow, someway, retains again.
Winner by Pinfall, and STILL PPW International Women's Champion: Mayu Iwatani
Yim can be seen visibly tearing up on the outside, holding her head in disbelief. She was so close, but it was stripped away from her. Iwatani is holding her ribs and holding up her title on the inside of the ring. She watches as Yim walks off, and knows she narrowly escaped with her title once again.
International Title
Buddy Murphy (c) vs. Jay Lethal
Jay Lethal accepted the open challenge of Buddy Murphy in Seattle, and he looked very driven to get this match underway and make the title his. Murphy has taken on some great competitors during his reign, beating a very great title holder in Naito to win the belt, but Lethal was looking to show why he is widely considered one of the best in the world tonight. Lethal would try to dictate the pace early, but Murphy would have none of it. Murphy would cut off Lethal's offense and take him to the outside, where he would show his dirty brawling skills, pounding Lethal with punches and kicks, slamming him into the announcer's table and guardrail, and lifting him and flinging into the ring steps in brutal fashion! Murphy seemed very cocky, stepping on Lethal's head on the outside and mocking the fans and Lethal, getting boos from the crowd. Murphy would then arrogantly roll into the ring and goad Lethal to get back in as the referee threatened to count him out. Lethal would show his heart, sliding back into the ring, only to be met with a barrage of stomps, followed by a Bicycle Knee Strike against the ropes, but Murphy would only get a two count. Murphy would try to deliver a Powerbomb afterwards, but Lethal would reverse into a DDT! Lethal would then deliver so quick offensive strikes and takedowns, following it with an Inverted Suplex into a Wheelbarrow Facebuster for a two count! Lethal is feeling it now, taunting the crowd and heading up top, coming off onto Murphy with a Double Axe Handle! Lethal then goes up top, looking for his Hail to the King Elbowdrop, getting a big pop from the crowd, but Murphy reverses it into a Cross Armbar!
The fans are shocked, but Lethal gets to the ropes to break it up. Murphy delivers a Northern Lights Suplex into the buckles and goes for a cover, but only a two count! Murphy deadlifts Lethal up and delivers a Powerbomb, but holds on and lifts him back up, delivering a Spinning Sit-Out Powerbomb, but still just a two count! Murphy is visibly upset, grabbing the referee by the collar and demanding him declare him the winner, but this gives Lethal time to recover and roll Murphy up with a School Boy for a quick two count! Lethal delivers an Enzuigiri, followed by a Leg Lariat, and then comes off the middle turnbuckle with a Blockbuster, but still just a two count! Lethal looks disappointed, but begins to clap and taunt the crowd, calling for the Lethal Injection. Lethal runs and attempts his finisher, but Murphy shows his strength, catching Lethal mid-move and trying for a German Suplex, but Lethal reverses that, flipping over it and landing on his feet. Lethal sends a quick kick to Murphy's midsection and grabs his head, springboarding off the ropes and hitting a Tornado DDT! Lethal hooks the leg hard, but Murphy still kicks out!
Lethal grabs Murphy by the leg and let's out a "WHOO!" before trying to lock him up into a Figure Four, but Murphy sends him into the buckles with a kick to the butt, followed by a Superkick that sends Lethal into the buckles. Murphy rushes in, delivering an elbow and looks to put Lethal up on the buckles, but Lethal reverses it and turns on the middle buckle, but Murphy with a low blow! The fans are booing! Murphy pulls Lethal's head through and Superkicks him to the face as he's pinned against the top buckle! The champion then grabs Lethal up into a Canadian Backrack and brings him down hard into a DDT! Murphy hooks the leg and believes it's over, but Lethal STILL kicks out! Murphy isn't wasting time, and knows he needs to land the death blow. Murphy pulls up Lethal and tries for Murphy's Law, but Lethal breaks free and catches Murphy with a European Uppercut! Murphy's stunned, standing and staggering. Lethal jumps, delivering a Spinning Enzuigiri and Murphy's down to a knee, clearly rocked! Lethal stumbles up and calls for the end, running off the ropes and handspringing, looking for the Lethal Injection once more, but Murphy sees it coming and catches him with a Bicycle Knee Strike to the back! Murphy smells blood in the water, his eyes wide and ready to kill! Murphy grabs Lethal by the wrists and pulls him into a Kneestrike straight to the face! He still has Lethal's arm, though, and yanks him up, pumphandling him and then the lift... MURPHY'S LAW! Lethal is down hard and Murphy hooks the leg! The ref counts the three and it's all over!
Winner by Pinfall, and STILL PPW International Champion: Buddy Murphy
Murphy grabs the microphone and says that Jay Lethal gave him a Hell of a fight, but he's not man enough to take this strap off of him and he doesn't think anybody is in that locker room! He says no more open challenges. He says PPW officials need to do their job at the next show and find him a real challenger!
