AEW Dynamite
July 11, 2019
Live from the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY
The scene opens to a recap video of Cody’s big win in the gauntlet match last week. The recap shows Cody’s last pinfall over “Hangman” Adam Page in a grueling match up, as well as the ominous presence of Killer Kross being felt at the conclusion of the show.
AEW Dynamite opens up to a live shot of the arena as “The Tollman” Killer Kross makes his way to the ring to a huge chorus of boos from the audience. Without the rest of the Kross Kult in tow, Kross enters the ring and grabs a microphone.
“Being just one week away from Double Or Nothing, I have been reminiscing about the past. Remember the good times we’ve had? How about when I sent William Goldberg back to the old folks home in Atlanta? Or that one time I prevented your hero Sting from showing his painted up face around here? Perhaps my favorite memory that we’ve made together is when I crushed the throat of your beloved Cody, or sent Kenneth Omega into a state of oblivion using only my words.
But the memories are just beginning. I hope you are all as eager as I am to continue to make memories, like next week at Double Or Nothing when I become the AEW World Champion. Make no mistake about it, the worst is yet to come. Cody and Kenneth are simply not equipped to face an adversary such as myself.
You two are going to understand soon - and very soon - that everyone must pay the toll. Once you get off the ferryman’s boat, there is no chance for redemption. But do not fret! All Elite Wrestling will be in good hands. Tick….tock….tick….tock.”
Kross laughs maniacally as his music cues back up. The announcers hype up the main event for Double or Nothing as we head to the ring for our opening contest.
Ace Romero v. Gangrel
Ace Romero’s size isn’t enough to intimidate Gangrel as the Vampire Warrior himself begins unloading on the big man. Romero isn’t phased by Gangrel’s passive strikes as Romero quickly and easily creates distance before pummeling Gangrel with a running body attack off the ropes. After several minutes of wearing down Gangrel, Romero hits his patented POUNCE for the win.
Winner: Ace Romero by pinfall
After the match, “The American Psycho” Lance Archer hits the ring and begins unloading on Romero! The crowd boos as Archer continues his assault with boots to Romero.
Archer isn’t impressed as he tells the crowd what he thinks of them. The announcers talk about the motivation of Archer and question why he would go after Ace Romero.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
The Young Bucks are talking backstage. They mention that they were told earlier about the AEW World Tag Team Championship match being set for Double Or Nothing. They say it will be them versus Jake and Dave Crist of oVe versus a mystery tag team making their AEW debut. The Bucks say that regardless of their opponents, one thing is guaranteed - a Superkick Party.
“Switchblade” Jay White talks about Adam Page’s showing in last weeks gauntlet match. He says that Adam Page is nothing but the flavor of the month. He also says that he’s sick and tired of everyone talking about Adam Page’s performance in the match, claiming that he’s been sitting on his ass for months and doesn’t care about his fans. He says that he went to Tony Khan and requested a match with Adam Page to prove to the world that the “Hangman” is a joke. According to White, Khan approved the match and it will take place as a special exhibition match at Double Or Nothing.
Mike Elgin v. Brian Kendrick
The feisty Brian Kendrick starts the match off hot with quick strikes to Big Mike! Kendrick finds a big opening and goes for the top rope crossbody, but Big Mike catches him mid-air! Elgin hits a big powerslam and continues making Kendrick an example heading into his National Championship match at Double Or Nothing. Elgin puts Kendrick away with a big Elgin Bomb for the victory.
Winner: “Big” Mike Elgin by pinfall
After the match, Elgin grabs a microphone and goes on to tell Brian Cage that he better enjoy that National Championship while he can because once Double Or Nothing is over, he’s going home about 15 pounds lighter.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
We come back from commercial break to view a segment that aired on AEW’s website just a few days ago, featuring Kenny Omega.
“It's almost as if Killer Kross expects me to be afraid of him. That's what I simply do not understand. You surround yourself with minions and expect to reap the benefit of their dirty work. Kross has always been the talker of the group; he's not the doer. Having PCO and Brody King lurking about won't get the job done this time. Come Double Or Nothing, our wonderful AEW fans will come to realize that Kross cannot back his words up. I absolutely refuse to allow the AEW World Championship to be added to his resume - he doesn't deserve that type of recognition. As far as Cody is concerned - Cody and I have had our ups and downs, but at the end of the day, we respect each other and consider each other a friend. Cody has proven to be a formidable opponent in the past. Cody has scratched and clawed to get to this point in his career - but so have I. I know that once the bell sounds, there will be no friendship. I have no doubt that Cody knows that as well. We are both fighting for something greater than ourselves. We are fighting to become the inaugural AEW World Champion. It doesn't get any sweeter than that."
The Young Bucks v. The World’s Greatest Tag Team
Matt Jackson and Charlie Haas start off in a series of impressive maneuvers! Haas ends up working Matt on the ground with a headlock takeover followed by a keylock. The crowd rallies behind Matt who ends up making the hot tag to Nick! Nick Jackson comes in like a house of fire and immediately delivers a big superkick knocking Charlie Haas back into his own corner! Shelton slaps Charlie on the back and enters the match to put a stop to Nick’s momentum. Benjamin slows the match down once again, approaching the contest with a methodical pace. Ultimately, it’s not enough as Nick Jackson hits another superkick on Benjamin, and too Haas on the outside! The Bucks set Benjamin up and hit a huge Meltzer Driver for the win in a hard fought contest. The Bucks are looking great heading into their match for the AEW Tag Team Championships at Double Or Nothing.
Winners: The Young Bucks by pinfall
After the match, and to no one’s surprise, the Crists from oVe run down to the ring! The fans boo, but the Bucks were ready this time! A pair of superkicks in stereo rock the jaws of Jake and Dave, and they immediately retreat from the ring! The Bucks celebrate with the crowd, motioning around their waist that they will become the tag champs.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
The AEW Women’s Champion, Beth Phoenix makes her way to the ring with a smile. The confident champion grabs a microphone and begins to speak. Beth states that in just a couple months, she has taken the women’s division by storm and has risen to the top like only a Glamazon can. She says that she’s beat the best that AEW has to offer but she’s a fighting champion. She says that she will be putting her championship on the line at Double Or Nothing and that if anyone has the guts, they can step up to the plate and make a name for themselves!
Suddenly, a familiar guitar riff hits the PA system…
IT’S RONDA ROUSEY! The fans become UNGLUED as Rousey makes her way to the ring! Beth Phoenix grins ear to ear, in shock, that Ronda Rousey is now All Elite! Rousey enters the ring to huge chants of “HOLY SH-T.”
Beth and Ronda stand face to face and nod at each other as Beth holds up the Women’s Championship. Ronda’s smile slowly dissolves as an angry scowl reveals itself.
Ronda attacks Beth! The fans begin to boo as Rousey continues her assault. Afterwards, Rousey looks on, proud of herself, as the fans continue booing her. The announcers are in shock as to what they have witnessed, and the fact that a new talent has accepted the Glamazon's open challenge. It looks like we’ll be seeing Beth Phoenix defend her championship against AEW's newest female wrestler Ronda Rousey at Double Or Nothing!
“This is it. This is the last stop on the road to Double Or Nothing. This is what I’ve worked for my entire career. Before we head to Double Or Nothing, I want to address my opponents.
Kenny Omega, you’re absolutely right - we are friends, but in this match, that doesn’t make a damn bit of difference. You know and I know that becoming AEW World Champion means so much in our industry because of what AEW represents. So, I’m putting this friendship aside. Kenny, you’re a fighter but you lack the one thing that the AEW World Champion needs to have, and that’s the attitude of a champion. Kenny, this isn’t a video game or some anime series. This is as real as it gets. Millions of people are watching and you don’t carry yourself like a world champion. You don’t train like a world champion. You don’t dress like a world champion. You have the heart, but at the end of the day, that simply isn’t enough. The AEW World Champion has to be the total package.”
Cody takes a moment to ponder his next words. We notice a considerable change in his demeanor as he begins to talk about his other opponent, Killer Kross.
“Killer Kross. The Herald of Doomsday! Threatening me, other wrestlers, and this audience by claiming you’re going to become the AEW World Champion. For weeks, you have injured other wrestlers, you’ve threatened my wife, you’ve insulted this fanbase and I’m sick and tired of it. You don’t think I’m equipped to wrestle you? You’re right, Kross. I’m not equipped to wrestle you. But I am equipped to fight you, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do to you at Double Or Nothing.
Good luck, gentlemen. See you next weekend.”
And with that, the final episode of Dynamite on the road to Double Or Nothing comes to a close.
