MLW FRIDAY NIGHT HEAT
EPISODE 29
EPISODE 29
60-second video montage recapping the events of last week’s show, followed by title graphics and explosive pyro.
Joey Styles: “Hello wrestling fans, and welcome to Friday Night Heat! You’re just in time, right on cue, for the greatest 90 minutes in professional wrestling today! I’m Joey Styles, and I’m joined on color commentary by the MLW World Heavyweight champion himself, Ted DiBiase, and his executive assistant, Keith Lee. This is the prelude to our next big event, MLW Heatwave, and we have four great matches scheduled to go. So let’s get straight-“
DiBiase: “Zip it, Styles! The people out there need to know something – last week, the Conglomerate fired its accountant, a man who used to be good at his job, the obsolete has-been Irwin R. Schyster! It was painfully obvious that a tough decision had to be made, but after consulting with my new partner, JBL, the decision didn’t turn out to be that tough at all. Now, we have a brand new team onboard to handle our business, and the Street Profits are about to find out the hard way… the Conglomerate always holds the opposition... accountable! Ha ha ha ha!”
The ACCOUNTANTS vs. the STREET PROFITS:

Although Howard Finkel announced them as the Accountants, as he was instructed to do earlier that day, it was a shock to the sold-out USF Sun Dome crowd to see the duo formerly known as the Bludgeon Brothers stride to the ring. Aside from the team name change, Harper and Rowan looked considerably different, wearing matching black pants and tank tops. Their hair was trimmed back a bit, but the “Million Dollar Man” didn’t micromanage that, it seemed; their unkempt appearance made them that much more frightening.
Dawkins and Ford had a few hope moments sprinkled into the four-minute match, but the behemoths in the other corner shut everything down. DiBiase and Lee loved every second of it, and the Accountants finished it off in brutal fashion, hitting Dawkins with their double-crucifix slam at 4:15.
As the ring cleared, Styles announced the rest of the night's matches: the Dynamic 2uo versus the DPA; Roddy Piper versus Christopher Daniels; and in the main event for determine who would take on the MLW World Tag-Team champs, Perfectly Ravishing, at Heatwave – Edge and Christian versus the Revival.
The Hardy Boyz’ vignette aired again, but this time, it was immediately followed by another video. Eli Drake and Nick Aldis were talking straight into the camera, and they wanted it to be official: they were accepting Matt and Jeff’s challenge, and they would be facing them at Heatwave.

A mysterious, 60-second video aired, in which Bray Wyatt was wandering through the backwoods swamps, looking for… someone.

As Daniels and Kazarian made their entrance, highlights from last week’s Intercontinental Tag-Team title match were shown; their reign as champions was far too short for their liking. The Addiction was eager to get their hands on any person representing the self-proclaimed Real Main Event, let alone the man who had a golden ticket to every title in Major League Wrestling. Piper strolled down the ramp with his long-time associate, the “Ace”, both as cocky as ever.
Daniels and Piper knew every trick in the book, and they put together a ten-minute clinic of wrestling, fighting, showmanship, and cheating. Their partners cheered them on from the outside, and occasionally lent an illegal hand. The momentum shifted back and forth, but eventually the “Fallen Angel” gained some steam with a series of quick kicks and palm strikes.
And then, to the crowd’s surprise and dismay, Piper simply rolled out of the ring, walked up the ramp, and took the countout loss. He grabbed the microphone from a confused Styles, cast a cautious stare at Lee and DiBiase, and said, “Well, that’s enough of a warmup. Thanks for helping me work out the kinks, Chris! Whew, I feel great now, and after I beat that overrated Seth Rollins, I’ll be your new MUW World champ! And hey, Ted - maybe I’ll give you a shot at the title, too… maybe.”
Daniels was not done, though, and he and Kaz walked up the ramp to finish it. But suddenly, Paul Orndorff parted the curtain, with the two MLW Intercontinental tag straps over each shoulder. The Addiction was outnumbered, but unfazed, and marched right up to the RME. However, officials quickly ran out to defuse the situation, and the show broke to

A promo spot for Heatwave aired, focusing on the inaugural MLW Florida tag-team title match. TnT (Trent Barreta and Tyson Kidd) were already confirmed for the bout, and four additional teams were aonnounced: American Alpha, Badd Company, the Heroes of the Republic, and one of the newest teams to enter the territory, managed by Sir Oliver Humperdink – Tazz and Yoshihiro Tajiri!
The DPA vs. the DYNAMIC 2UO (w/Jim Cornette):

The “Louisville Slugger” introduced his squad as only he can, but the Cheshire cat grin on his face disappeared when Simmons and Reed – the Doom Protection Agency – marched down the ramp. Mercenaries in every sense of the word, they were ass-kickers that would fight anybody, regardless of what locker room they dressed in.
Adams started the match with a superkick right between Reed’s eyes, and it nearly got him the three-count. The 2uo stayed on top of their foes from the get-go, trying to seize the quick win. They did their best to isolate “Hacksaw,” but it only lasted a couple of minutes, and he eventually tagged Simmons in. The former WCW World champ was a wrecking ball, and he took charge for his team. The next few minutes were tilted in the DPA’s favor, but the 2uo went down swinging. It ended at 7:38: Simmons crushed Hernandez with a middle-rope shoulder-tackle.
After the match, the massive men walked up the ramp, pointing to their waists in traditional “Give us a title match” fashion. After a minute or so, the 2uo and Cornette slowly trod after them, but Cornette stopped at the desk to talk to the MLW World champ. The cameraman was unable to pick up any of the dialogue, but whatever was said, DiBiase looked intrigued.

Styles: “Fans, I have exciting news to break; the ink on these two contracts literally just dried, and these matches for Heatwave just became official! First of all, Commissioner Norris wasted no time getting the rematch signed for the MLW Intercontinental Tag-Team championship – the Real Main Event, Paul Orndorff and Bob Orton Jr., will battle the Addiction one more time for the gold! Furthermore, the MLW Intercontintental Heavyweight championship will be on the line as well – but in a strange twist, Dave Batista will not be defending that title against the former champion, Jay Briscoe. Instead, ‘the Animal’ will be facing Jay’s brother Mark for the gold!”
“But before we get to the ring for tonight’s main event… Ted, what exactly were you discussing with Jim Cornette?”
Lee: “Mr. Dibiase has no comment at this time."
A 60-second video clip ran, highlighting the Revival’s upset win over money Inc., and Edge and Christian’s victory over Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson.

EDGE and CHRISTIAN vs. the REVIVAL:

Main event ring introductions by Howard Finkel, and though the two teams didn’t shake hands, they did nod to each other in a show of respect. They had battled each other several times before, but the Revival, in particular, were determined to earn the win the right way.
All four men were at the top of their game. With the stakes so high, it was a stiff contest, but nonetheless, fought with only a minimum of rule-breaking. The occasional corner was cut, but it was a fast-paced, ruggedly scientific affair. Double-team maneuvers were executed with perfection, and the referee gave them a little extra leeway to get things done, much to the crowd’s delight.
15 minutes flew by, and after Edge folded up Wilder with a spear, it was almost over. Almost. Dawson launched himself across the ring to break up the count at 2.9, and the battle continued. A couple of minutes later, the Revival hit their Shatter Machine on Christian, but this time, the “Ultimate Opportunist” saved his partner. Everyone was in the ring now, and with the 20-minute time limit quickly approaching, each man was fighting as if his life was on the line. With just moments left, Wilder and Edge went sailing over the top rope, and after slipping out of a Dawson DDT attempt, the “Instant Classic” nailed his opponent with the Unprettier. It was finally over at 19:33, with the WWE icons moving on to Heatwave.
The Revival was despondent; they desperately wanted a crack at their former teammates. Rude and Hennig. Nonetheless, they walked over to Edge and Christian and shook their hands, wishing them well. Unfortunately, the sportsmanlike gesture was immediately forgotten, as the four exhausted grapplers were attacked by the Horsemen! Their manager, JJ Dillon, cackled at ringside as his troops worked over the men in the ring for several agonizing moments. But Edge, Christian, Dawson, and Wilder somehow battled back, and fired away with punches and kicks of their own before repelling the Horsemen from the ring. Backstage officials finally appeared to separate the combatants, and the show ended with Perfectly Ravishing shouting at their challengers, eager to face them at Heatwave!
